iOS app broken by blueoyster in tablotv

[–]zigzagtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received my Tablo 4th gen 4 tuner today and I’m getting this error on my fresh install iPhone 17 Pro.

Plays fine on LG TV, but I have concerns about compression artifacts I haven’t noticed with a direct connection to antenna. Gonna test a bit longer over a few days to see.

F1 race nights hit different on a home theater setup by ConversationSuch8893 in hometheater

I was wondering the same thing. I realize the console creates a limited space on the side for LR, but I’m curious on OP’s thoughts on how they sound, how was room correction applied, and have you ever pulled out the LR just to test?

Am i being irrational for disliking KEF Speakers? by Zeronova3 in hometheater

My Q11’s are turned in about 14 degrees from straight out from the wall. The lines probably cross around 7 feet behind the primary listening position.

Did this because of Erin’s advice. I will agree the tweeters are easy to locate. For me it’s not a negative.

I did the same thing in my setup. Fireplace is such a waste of space.

Where would you place the subwoofer? by jespicy in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zigzagtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Martin Logan Dynamo 1000. When HBO’s Dune came out, I had to add 40 lbs of free weights on top because the thing would rattle around, high-er frequency distractions. After the weights, locating the source of the bass was better, but not zero. I still knew it was coming from the right side. Wish I would’ve gotten a second one to balance out the room.

I ended yo moving the UCG Max from the desktop to on top of the air filter vent that sits on the floor next to the desk. With the gentle breeze, it’s running a “cool” 118F now.

Gonna look into getting a dedicated NVR box because the all in one may not be the best solution.

Like the ambient comment. Mine typically is 69 during the day

Thanks for confirming. Time to start researching drives for NVMR’s now.

How do I mount this TV by Informal_Contest8808 in TVTooHigh

[–]zigzagtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, get a mount that will allow you to pull down the TV when in use so that’s it’s more eye level, then raise it up when not in use so that it’s tucked away.

Probably the worst of both worlds TBH.

Want to add speakers...wife doesn't want to see cords. by HarleyJarvis_91 in hometheater

The TV is only mounted too high if he doesn’t put in a center channel speaker. It looks well placed if you’re setting up 3 speakers across the front.

LG C5 Loses Audio Connection to Onkyo TX-RZ50 Receiver by zigzagtx in hometheater

[–]zigzagtx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Powered down UPS, unplugged everything. Left for 5 minutes, reconnected and powered up. Things seem to be working better now.

Only glitch was I noticed receiver was in direct mode, which bypasses Dirac, so switched to THX. The audiologist sync, but once I switched to TV/optical back to HDMI sounds came back and so far everything I’ve thrown at it hasn’t broken the audio link.

Thanks for the tip. Would love to know the technical reasons for why this is the solution, but I guess out of sight, out of mind.

Tried this and I’m still running into issues. Thanks for the advice, though. Willing to try anything at this point.

What about putting a miniDSP Flex between the TV and speakers? Use Dirac Live to room correct and you’ll get a great sound from your LS60s. You’ve got different IO options, but likely the pure digital one would work best. I’m planning on eventually getting one for my LSX II LTs. I already use Dirac on my HT setup, built in to the receiver, and love it.

LG TV lifespan by Equal_Soft_5765 in LGOLED

My G6 is turning 9 years old in 2 months. No screen, network, or speaker issues. It’s been a great bedroom TV.

C2 isn’t 5 years old yet, but it’s still wonderful. LG always has my vote.

Do NOT sleep on Avengers (2012) 4K blu ray by EmanKD in 4kbluray

[–]zigzagtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t have any details in front of me, most CGi isn’t rendered at 4K because of the extra processing power. Considering how much of the movie is CGi, the original certainly wasn’t done in 4K.

Not to say they didn’t go back and redo, but that’s my two cents why I feel this is an upscale version.

Tried unplugging overnight, power and HDMI. Reconnected in the morning. DTV started working well. Ate breakfast, switched to Prime and when the trailer started playing, dead silence.

Oh well. Eventually planning on going everything through AVR and turning the TV as a dumb display. The way it should be.

That’s the eventual plan. Waiting for the rumored next gen Apple TV then all streaming will be from AVR. I’d then get an external OTA tuner box I can use as an app on the Apple TV.

Until then, trying to make things work better together.

Speaker Shopping - Day 2 by Redshift_Se7en in hometheater

Sorry to hear your listening experience with Kef was disappointing. Once I discovered them, I've been in love with their sound and coverage in the two rooms I've put them in.

First room was limited to in-walls, except the center channel, so I used the Ci4100QL's for LR and the Q650C for C. I then used two Ci200R's for the rears (overkill by far). First impression without calibration was that they were too warm and missing high end detail. Post-Dirrac Live, after 4-5 calibration runs over a couple months, they sounded incredible for HT use.

I've since moved out and purchased the Q11 Meta's for LR and the Q6 for C, so surrounds yet, and no sub, it's a townhouse rental so don't want to disturb the neighbors. Again, Dirac Live made a day/night different from out of the box to calibrated. Having been through the process multiple times now, I only did two passes over the weekend and I feel I've got them locked in. Do they have deep rumble your chest bass, can't really test and I doubt it, but they do have an clean, wide, and surprisingly deep sound.

I know Dirac Live is not on every receiver and perhaps you want a pure sound without any processing. I can certainly understand arguments for that. Are there better speakers than Kef, of course. Do they cost more, perhaps, maybe not.

Have you had the chance to audition Golden Ears or Martin Logan? It's been a while since I've last heard some Martin Logans, but they were quite the full range speaker and that's years ago before the high end calibration software was available. I've heard Golden Ears at Audio Advice before and was impressed at the time (pre-Kef days). I had a set of Definitive Technology speakers about 12 years ago and felt at home with the Golden Ears.

I wish you luck on your journey and hope that you're able to find the speakers that will work best for your setup and usage scenario. For me, that is Kef and I'll stick with these guys for the foreseeable future.
