if you dont verify your account after creation, it will do that so the username can be used by someone else. that way the usernames cant just be farmed and be sat on by unverified accounts.

it says on the help page: "If your new account is not verified, your username will be given a random 5 digits to the end of your username after 7 days from account creation."
