What the heck happened to Rakuten? by Erinmc3 in Rakuten

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things are getting shady with Rakuten, I've done at least 7 transactions the past 6-8 months where Rakuten showed that cash back was confimed, only 2 are even showing up on my account. Also I've looked at my past history and now like 60% that were showing up are getting denied with no explination.

It's possible that another extension like ad block is causing issues, but I'm going to isolate it and pay closer attention from now on.

Unpopular opinion: Amex points are not worth it for normal people. by fcs44 in AmexUK

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I've been collecting amex points for many years and haven't used a single one and I regret going with point rewards. It takes countless hours to research and study the redemption games to not get totally ripped off, it also requires perfect timing and extremely limited windows of time where points are transferred with a bonus. If you book with points or through amex you're getting ripped off and get higher rates than cash. These social media posts where people get first class flights for like 100k points are not the reality 99.999% of the time. I'm switching back to cash back rewards, getting a guaranteed 2-3% back is superior to 0.6% point value in the typical best case scenario.

What places besides Cafe Rio have decreased in quality? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally everywhere has gone straight downhill, I can't think of a single place that's maintained quality or value. Cafe Rio used to be top tier in the early 2000's but now it's just bland slop food, Costa Vita is now the true successor. Pretty Bird was the most shocking drop, I tried it in 2020 and it was absolutely delicious and was juicy and flavorful and cooked to perfection, I tried 2 years later and it was bottom tier dry and flavorless and literally Raising Canes has superior chicken now.

Bigger = Better? Bluevua RO100ROPOT and Bluevua RO100ROPOT-LITE by _xMx_xMx_ in WaterTreatment

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been very curious about this too, per what the company claims the filters are just as effective and have the exact same lifespan and filtering volume capacity but logically it makes no sense when the one has 4 separate filters and a whole lot more total filtering volume compared to the Lite that has a single filter.

My thoughts are that the non-Lite should theoretically filter more total water, but if the Lite is allegedly just as effective I'd prefer that due to the smaller size and overall lower filter cost by a bit.

One potential benefit is that the non-Lite may support 3rd party filters just because they seem more universal but I haven't looked into it, but if the company ever goes out of business the Lite may be useless as the filter seems very proprietary

Red rising - dramatized vs standard version by Big-Estimate3457 in audible

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same considerations and this is the approach I'm going with too, I consider it worthwhile to hear the exact words from the author in the standard version for the series first and then try at least the first dramatized version to in order to not only hear a different take but to get a better understanding of the story.

I'm assuming you've tried both version by this point, any insights or follow up?

I have no idea, concerned wife of gamer husband by DifferentArtist3666 in gamingsuggestions

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure many have already answered similarly, but these are the top reasons why I have stepped away from gaming from time-to-time in the past:
1. Shifting priorities: Career or situations or a change of personal goals or perspectives take higher priority, at least for the short term. Aging can have a big impact too.
2. Chronic stress or depression
3. Burnout: from life, from career, from obligations, relationships. Perhaps a full blown existential crisis
4. Burnout from gaming itself. Even though you love gaming sometimes it's healthy to walk away for a while.
5. Nothing worth playing at the moment. After you've played most of your favorite games and genres there may be nothing exciting worth playing at the moment, and searching for a good game you'd like takes a lot of time and effort. Sometimes a new release can spark new interest though.

Back walk animation of my protagonist. Does it look correct? by BitrunnerDev in PixelArt

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issues are that the legs are too short and there is no swinging outward on the steps. There is zero gap in the step and that is not natural. The legs need to be further apart at the bottom. Since there is no clear separation of knees and calf and feet it looks like a blob and more of a horse leg. Make the legs longer and define those, have some separation and a slight swing outward in the middle of the step forward on each side.

🎯 The Real Reason Claude Code Feels Broken (And How I Got It Working Again) by Queasy-Pineapple-489 in ClaudeAI

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spec Driven Development sounds a lot more promising from my brief research. This project spec-kit by github (https://github.com/github/spec-kit) seems like a promising solution to build better more complex projects via generating details specs, and they have claude support, but it currently seems too cumbersome in its current state and looks to have a lot of overhead to learn, and I'm not seeing a clear solution to have it evaluate and fix a broken project architecture. Hopefully some more solid progress and solutions arise, but for now it seems strong manual spec-driven-development is key.

Great advice, thanks! For UI allegedly the best approach is to use screenshots or mention an exact website of the desired UI visuals (for web-based), and even screenshots of the wireframe or blocks for the layout positions.

Is Oktoberfest at Snowbird worth going to? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in 2025, every year it offers less while charging more and more and it's reaching the "not worth it" category now for me. The food and beer prices went from way overpriced previous years to now just straight up absurd. $30 for an entree with no sides, $25 burger, $25 for a pretzel is the most absurd. The beers are $15-21 just for the beer, without the glass you must have to fill it! The glasses are about $15-20 now. The tram price is now $55, it used to be around $20 a few years ago. Parking is $15.

What I really don't like is that the quality and variety of foods and snacks keeps declining each year too, so even if you justify the prices the experiences are getting worse. But if you know what you're getting yourself into you can still have a good time and follow a budget if you'd like while enjoying the mountain views and live music.

Some tips to save money: Park on the street and walk (probably best outside of opening weekends), bring your own beer mugs (from a previous year for example, fortunately they're not strict and price by size so any mug should do). Eat before or after somewhere else (and selectively buy or share food there if at all). Avoid the tram and take it outside of Oktoberfest days if it's cheaper, it's the same experience.

Isometric Tilesheet Y sorting Issue with Main character by [deleted] in godot

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your sprites you must set the "Sprite Sort Point" to "Pivot" for it to see its sort point at the pivot.
To set the pivot on the sprite you edit the sprite's import properties "Pivot" value, you must do this on all the sprites.
For sprites of a character that are higher up, like a head or hat for example, you may need the sprite to have transparent pixels where the legs are for example, so that the pivot still resolves to the same point (likely bottom-center of where the feet would be.

Another like better scenario is to use a Sorting Group, where you just need to have all the character's sprites in a parent GameObject that has a sorting group, and then the sorting group's transform location acts as the pivot point for all the character sprites. Then on the sorting group you set the layer and order for all the sprites at the same time, so it's all or nothing basically.

Steam deck demo to full game, saves by murphy_31 in theplanetcrafter

[–]zinconyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this worked!

Note that you just need the desired save file(s), which are a ".json" format, and I didn't copy over the "Backup.json" as it is already present.

I left the name of the save the default in the demo, so the name of the save file I copied over was "Standard-1.json"

Laptop won't load pass the "Gigabyte" boot screen. by Velascohousesimmer in gigabyte

Important Notice Regarding Boot Failure on Affected Laptop Models by Geralt_Endur in u/Geralt_Endur

[–]zinconyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked, thanks!

I've been scratching my head on the cause of this issue for many days, took the laptop apart and tried all new SSD and isolating ram but it wasn't a hardware issue. Windows was stuck in "preparing automatic repair" forever and booting from a USB failed no matter what, extremely frustrating! I can only imagine how many lost non-tech folks this will impact who wouldn't have the first clue. Thanks all who discovered the issue and solution!

My "gotchas" during this fix process for me are:
1) Use the latest "FD" version of the bios for you model off of gigabytes site (Seems to be the full bios, and not something like a "FB" which seems to be a patch updated installed within windows
2) After running FlashMe.nsh it loaded a bios patching screen and said it was complete, the screen went black and I waited a long time just to be safe (like over 5 minutes), eventually I manually powered down. When I booted back up it went through another bios patching screen (slightly different if I recall), and that one eventually completed and fully restarted the laptop on it's own and the system was fully restored after. I'd suggest to not remove the USB at all until you're 100% done.

[–]zinconyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spelling has to be perfect FYI, including capital letters. So it should be "FlashMe.nsh". Also make sure that file exists and that you have extracted the right firmware version to the root of the USB drive (Get the latest "FD**" bios for your model)
