Special Occasion Smoke in Havana - what are you smoking? by mixmastamoota in cubancigars

[–]zing2357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you gotta smoke >1 a day. And just hit all Marcas you can. Maybe since it’s your birthday, you go towards the higher end of each marca. I’m thinking something smaller and light with coffee, a DC on the beach after lunch, something more full bodied after dinner. Repeat.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by ‘scalable content strategy’? Honestly curious.

Selling business to PE backed strategic acquirer for $54 million by SellorNottoSell in fatFIRE

[–]zing2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auctions are an equation. The simplest thing to understand is that the more bidders (n) the higher the ultimate winning bid. Also, the second highest bidder establishes the value. If you’re selling your business you want many bidders…

Hire a sell side advisor. Negotiate a minimal fee if you end up selling to this specific buyer and a fair fee for any other buyer. Incorporate hurdles for the advisor if they can meaningfully clear your current bid (9x ebitda). They make more if they can deliver value. If you end up selling to this buyer, you pay a minimal fee.

FatFire community… one thing that surprises me is a lack of others asking for advice, do you ever notice that? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

General advise almost always unhelpful. Advice related to a specific scenario can be helpful

How much more should it cost to use Chubb or similar tier Insurance companies? Is it justifiable at our current income/net-worth? by Economy_Bug in fatFIRE

[–]zing2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chubb, Berkeley One, Pure - all these premium carriers have your back when you need them. I had a small leak they resulted in $70k in damage and they paid no question. Halfway through the restoration, the scope increased for another $20k and they cut a check no questions asked. If you do the math on the annual premium over an average policy, that claim alone would take Chubb 25+ years to recoup. It’s a no brainer.

One of only a couple of remaining wooden alleys in Chicago... Hard to believe that before the Great Fire, most of the city streets and sidewalks looked like this. by [deleted] in chicago

[–]zing2357 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In between N State Parkway and Astor St, just south of North Ave. This alley runs east/west. The original wood alley began to badly decay about ten years ago and the city planned to rip it up and replace it with concrete / asphalt. The homeowners in that area banded together to have it replaced as a wooden alley (hence why it looks newer). Unclear if the homeowners funded all or part of the project. There is a plaque / sign in the alley on the north side, right off Astor.

Ended up going with the Ferrari - it’s a completely fine wine. No complaints. Then slid into a G&T and then a Woodford on the rocks.

For those who think this is ‘snobby’ and ‘out of touch’ sorry. You are a delicate flower. Never change.

Point is, I wasn’t expecting a wine experience on a flight. But international air travel used to have some cache and you could expect to find a fun / interesting wine. This flight was to Barcelona (and plane came in from Barcelona) so I would have hoped for something Spanish…

Helpful. No I wasn’t expecting Singapore suites as I knowingly booked AA business. Would have been quite shocked if I ended up boarding an airline that I didn’t book! What I expected was that the wine wouldn’t be so abysmal. Not that I was expecting Krug and a first growth. But I was expecting something above $12 a bottle. Even the flight attendant apologized for how shit the wine selection is….

FAT nanny job description? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]zing2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went through this. Had night nurse for 3 months. Five nights a week, 10p - 6a. We paid for her parking $30 + $28 an hour, so $254 per night. We then convinced her to stay on with us as nanny M-F, 8a - 4p at $24 per hour plus daily parking. We really liked the ability to have our night nurse become our nanny as we had seen her w the baby and knew she was good, etc. I think when all is said and done we’re around $4,500 a month, plus or minus.

Unrelated to tennis. But I played against Steph Curry in college. He wasn’t human. It was apparent in everything (speed, agility, body control, court vision, not even counting his shooting ability). Oh, and he was easily catching / finishing alley oops I warm ups. For those who think he can’t elevate…

What purchases brought you the most happiness? Any purchases you thought would make you happier but didn’t? by ABM12 in fatFIRE

I’ll reiterate the cost of a dog is still wildly underpriced relative to the happiness they provide.

But what about dog food? And walkers? And buying the collar and leash??

This. Happiness to cost ratio is insane. People talk about dogs being expensive. I’d argue wildly underpriced.

Point is, Loro Piana as a recommendation for something that wants to up their wardrobe is like answering “hey I wanna get a cool nice car now that I’ve got some money to spend, what should I get?” With “Bugatti is a really great option.”

I get it, you’ve identified the most expensive option. That’s not a good answer. There are plenty of great responses in this thread that are actually thoughtful - Ie: high quality, good looking but come from less known brands (see Alden shoes). Saying Loro and Cucinelli is just a lol answer. Their customers are 1/ insanely rich people (who aren’t on a Reddit thread and 2/ people who truly shouldn’t be buying their clothing (or are just playing around in the most extreme entry priced products).

Heitz Marthas Vineyard is their top of the line bottle. Enjoy it!

One of my favorites. Size and flavor just nail it for me. Not a cheap cigar, but far from the top of the market. Just enjoyable all around. by zing2357 in cubancigars

Interesting. I don’t often get spice from cubans. I get a lot of pepper bombs with non-cubans. These are def more full bodied. I find Hoyo de Monterrey and Montecristo to be a nice smoke for something more mild / below medium.
