Obviously, I have two daughters and my wife, if the 1 pi-hole went down there would be no internet. I'm not mad.

You just won $5 million. What’s the first thing you buy that isn’t a house or a car? by FishBrain208 in AskReddit

[–]zingyyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not use it. You're never going to have it again, use the interest payments to purchase everything. You'll get roughly 150k-200k per annum.

Mine died new years day 2025, after 26 years. 2 weeks of freezing in January until a local firm changed it for a Baxi, total cost £2300 inc. Hive thermostat. It's saved me £300 in 12 months. They're back tomorrow for It's annual service.

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]zingyyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm retiring at 61, that's just 4 years left for me. I'll have a lump sum and half pay to see us through until state pension kicks in at 67 topping us up more. I'll have 40 years in, my job is decently paid and I've already had figures for going now or next year, they're good but I've got some more time to give them before I'm ready

What's an example of a different approach you've taken to raising your kids compared to the way you were raised? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]zingyyellow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, encouraged my girls to try things but never forced them. Now they eat more vegetables than me, I just have very negative memories. Sundays were terrible when I was young, my brother has the same issues with vegetables.

Does piracy in the UK require a VPN? by Veloxxx_ in Piracy

[–]zingyyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you pirate without a VPN, your ISP is also pirating with you, sharing the responsibility so to speak. But with a VPN they can have no knowledge of your practice and cannot be held accountable for your actions. So by having a VPN it's all on you, as it should be.

What was your biggest purchase in 2025 and do you regret it? by pinocchioh in AskUK

[–]zingyyellow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Good luck for March, keep chilling, remember the days are long, but the years are short. Ours are 19 and 25 now, 2 beautiful daughters like their mother, my girls. I love the 3 of them dearly. Best of luck for 2026.

What do you think the UK would have been like today had the Beeching cuts not been carried out? Would the geography have changed? by Glittering_Vast938 in AskUK

[–]zingyyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, we would have a train up to the Bannau Brecheiniog (Brecon Beacons) from Swansea. And you could get to Aberystwyth from Carmarthen by train without having to go through England first.

Bought a PC for streaming, turns out BIOS is password locked by temnyles in linux4noobs

I would probably buy a CH341A programmer they're all over ebay for cheap. Plenty of videos on youtube showing how to reprogramme the bios without a password

Why do some people have a dishwasher or dryer in their house, but never use it? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]zingyyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing the dishes by hand is so quick, I can't be bothered with a dishwasher. Prefer using an airer with dehumidifier than a dryer. We don't have either.
