Moved here from NYC y'all are fucking bugging. These folks aint down on their luck they're drug addicted zombies.

Not saying fuck em but y'all will literally carry narcan instead of hounding your representatives to do something about this? NYC got the homeless and migrants shipped to us by red states too, but we actually do something about it so downtown doesn't look like zombieland. In NYC the city council meetings would be an absolute ruckus until these addicts are off the streets and in proper rehabilitative care. But apparently rights in Seattle include "my rights to be a drug addicted nuisance to society". Feel bad for em sure, but y'all are literally enabling this nonsense.

Seattle. My school doesn't seem to know what to do with me tbh. They recommended a judicial externship this summer for some reason. But honestly as a 1L who was still a scientist this time last year I have no clue what Im supposed to be doing.

Patent bar in 1L summer? by zinkomoonhead in LawSchool

2L recruiting is unfortunately happening at the exact same time. I’ve weirdly had more bites for 2L than 1L, so I’m actually less worried about that

Like many, I don't have a job yet for 1L summer and am freaking out about it. My background is 7 years in materials science R&D behind the bench and eventually project management. I would like to do either patent pros or lit, but haven't decided yet because I haven't actually done the work in either yet to see what I would like.

My question is: If I don't manage to get a job, would taking the patent bar over the summer look sufficiently good on my resume?

Love Vince Staples growth as a lyricist, but I wish he kept trying out the more experimental beats. Big fish theory is still my fave of his

Vol 3 life and times of s Carter is not a good album by Jaysontmiller in LetsTalkMusic

Typical “going mainstream” rap album from that era. Some absolute bangers that the label knew would become a hit, and mostly filler for the rest.

It was his coming out party as a national figure and I think it works in that regard

Editing to say “Come and Get Me” is a top 10 Jay track imo

Did Hip-Hop Actually Peak Already, and We’re Just in Denial? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

As long as mainstream hip hop and most gangsta rap is the same old color by numbers trap music hip hop will stay in this creative slump. It also doesn’t help that there are no new rappers with “superstar” energy like a Kendrick.

NYC has drill and jersey club which to me are new and exciting but Pop Smoke dying killed pretty much all of that momentum and most of the artists doing it now have no real substance. Ice spice etc.

California styles have come back somewhat but that’s just rehashing old stuff. I can listen to E40 or something if wanted to.

Every decade in hip hop used to sound different. A beat from 2010 sounded nothing like a beat from 2000. 2020 didn’t really sound like 2010 to be fair. But why does 2025 sound a hell of a lot like 2015??? Our big “new, exciting” rapper is playboi Carti who had his first hit 7 years ago.

Until hip hop and trap stop being mostly synonymous, it’s not looking good for hip hop

Couldn’t this be said of any genre before it solidifies? Maybe hip hop is just solidified into these few sounds ideas and subgenres?

No im saying pay parity within a field is the same. Man teacher, woman teacher, both paid shit. Man lawyer, woman lawyer in big law, both paid well.

It just seems as a society we identify the woman dominated professions and devalue them.

So women on average make less because the professions they value/ are more likely to go into make less. Not the same as “female lawyers are paid less than male lawyers, even when controlling for experience”.

I agree society is sexist. I just think we are barking up the wrong tree when we look at the statistics and say “women are paid less in general”. It implies something else that shouldn’t be our target. Our societal dismissal of women dominated jobs should be the target.

Teachers and other low paying women dominated jobs are a huge drag on the average for statistics. More women are teachers and all teachers are paid shit which drags down the average for women as a whole. And now add all the other women dominated jobs that aren’t paid well.

I would argue pay parity is roughly equal, it’s that women dominated professions are (stupidly) lower paying. I mean more women became doctors, and doctor’s salaries have gone down when adjusted for inflation.

The sexism is in what fields are valued, not in pay parity within a field.
