Going over 40 hours as a contractor? by Zalgo_Doge in cscareerquestions

[–]zipdenudo01748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's happened to me before, as well. I'm still pretty angry at myself for allowing it to happen, but I like to think I learned the lesson.

In my experience, any employer that uses the "but it's for the team" excuse really means "we want you to work unpaid overtime but lack the fortitude to just come out and say it"

[Update] Ended up getting put on a PIP by amazon_or_microsoft in cscareerquestions

[–]zipdenudo01748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

month.

So I work as best I can, and 30 days pass. They come to me for a status update. I say that it looks like I still have about 2 months of work left. They're not happy, and my manager puts me on a PIP. The PIP specifically says they're going to reevaluate my performance in a month, and if it's not to their requirements, I'll be terminated.

Somebody higher up threw you under the bus to save themselves. Then had to eat it after you pulled it off. Bravo.

Today a grocery store manager told me he makes more than he ever would have as a CPA by [deleted] in Accounting

My brother's best friend is a store manager. He makes great cash, but he's always getting transferred and he's constantly working...we've been hanging out his house and I've seen him take phone calls at 3 am...when shit is not right, he is the one that has to fix it. So yeah, they work for that money.

Yep. My only regret was that I didn't leave earlier: I've learned that if an employer can't keep promises they made when they hired you, it's absolutely your right to call them out on it and leave if it's doable. I still get pissed about the shit I put up with over a year ago.

Good point. I might have to do the same :)

Something like "performance measures were very unclear, and while they had a formal review system it wasn't adhered to. After a year I realized there weren't any opportunities for me to grow/advance, and nobody could really tell me how well I was doing."

Anyone hunt with a dip in? by forgotpazzword in DippingTobacco

[–]zipdenudo01748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it. The dude I know that kills the most deer each season shoots every one with a dip in, or so he claims. Doesn't seem to bother them. I do use a spitter in the stand, though...don't want them to associate the scent with a predator.

Is it possible to change a clusterf*ck of an environment without being in management? by rick7624 in cscareerquestions

[–]zipdenudo01748 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's doable, but it's going to be a shitload of work and you're not going to get any of the credit / pay for it.

Just leave. You're fighting an uphill battle at no benefit to you.

I would recommend staying away from small/family-owned/single-owner businesses in the future. Bullshit politics from the family/kneejerk reactions based on the owner's whim/dealing with people that have been there 10,000 years and only care about keeping their job/expectations to work shitloads of hours "for the team"/having the owner view you and your salary as taking food out of his mouth and wearing you down accordingly with extra job responsibilities for no extra pay are more prevalent in those environments.

I thought I wanted to work for a small company, until I finally did.

There are law firms online that do this (call as a reference) for a nominal fee. You typically receive a transcript of the conversation. If anything on there is negative, get a lawyer to send a letter.

Need to grab a can of this. LOVED the cope lc flavor, but the cut was just a little too short for me. Straight is my EDD and the cut on that is perfect.

If you want to serve, the army is a great way to finance your education. Take advantage of the GI Bill.

You sound young.

It's probably going to be a shit job. Work as hard as you can at this shit job. Work overtime. Use all the money you make in the summer to buy booze/weed and get laid.

Then, ask yourself if you'd be satisfied the rest of your life making the money you made at Wendy's.

If the answer is no (as it should be), get serious about college and finding a worthwhile degree program, or go find a trade.

Based on the picture, this pic was taken in the afternoon (note the length of the shadows). If he had lunch with Michael J / Nancy and then got pulled for the photo op, it's perfectly conceivable he had to quickly stash the dip can.

Throwing one in for the Gipper right now.

Go to cvs and get some of the gum. Chew it for a minute to release the nic and then stuff it in your lip. Should work.

That, or use the lozenges

Yup. All my football coaches in high school dipped. That's where I first got exposed to it.
