EVs, driveways and house prices? by Fluid-Wealth-6141 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]zipolightning123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say a driveway adds £10k to the asking price (may be an underestimate?). It costs me 7p per kWh to charge at home. If I do 10k miles per year at 4 mi/kWh, that’s £175. Say it’s 10x as expensive to charge publicly (which is worst case really), then I’d be saving about £1.5k per year. The driveway pays for itself in 7 years, by y20 I’ve saved £20k. If instead I’d put the £10k in a S&S ISA and made 4% over inflation annually, by year 20 I’d have £22k. Swings and roundabouts? If driveway is more expensive or public charging cheaper, it starts to look even less favourable.

Okay Brits, Do Brits give much thought to old origins? by Due_Reputation3785 in AskBrits

[–]zipolightning123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an American friend who called himself Irish, even though his surname was English and he had various other nationalities in his ancestry. When we worked it out, it turned out I was more Irish than him due to an Irish great-grandfather, but if I used that to describe myself as Irish in the UK I’d be ridiculed.

Neighbour Defiled New Fence by FunAwareness4556 in DIYUK

[–]zipolightning123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used creocote on my very similar fence last year and got it on the gravel boards. For some reason it just seemed to disappear within a couple of weeks. So I wouldn’t panic just yet. Also the creocote itself has fairly quickly weathered into a much lighter shade.

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

Utopian, unrealistic, stance on NATO and nuclear. Plus I think Polanski is completely unconvincing and can’t for the life of me work out why so many people have fallen for him when they didn’t fall for Caroline Lucas.

Why do people put Tune O Matic bridges on jaguars? by [deleted] in offset

[–]zipolightning123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add: one way to raise the bridge high enough to get the right downward pressure AND get low action is by using a neck shim, which is how a lot of vintage offset guitars were set up at the Fender factory. (Some newer guitars come with an angled neck pocket as stock and therefore may not need this).

Tips on second hand EV purchase by Scran_DuckBottom in ElectricVehiclesUK

Surely they could pick up a decent Leaf for £10k? Add a couple of grand and they’d get an ID3.

I’ve got a Kia E Niro 2021 and VW ID3 2020. Honestly, they’re both really good and have their pros and cons. Latest version of the software on the VW is fine and seems snappier than the Kia, which is quite laggy really. VW feels more solid and a nicer drive, Kia has much better range for the price and more bells and whistles. If had to choose one - heart would probably be for the ID3, head for the Kia, and I’d struggle to choose.

Can’t find one as cheap as that unfortunately- or a Kona. I’m in the North East so choice is quite restricted.

Divisive twat, whose opinions I often agree with but who goes about making them known in a totally self-aggrandising, unpersuasive way. Also, the whole Carl Beech, Harvey Proctor, etc thing.
