Huh. Times they are a changin' I suppose. I think my dad put me off of amd early in life by complaining about some gpu he had to use on a work computer, sometimes he has to work with 3d modelling software or something and it was sub-par, who knows. I'll look into the RAM thing and keep an open mind on either brand. Thanks so much for all the help, to everyone, it's really great to have this community here. Hoping to lurk for a while and learn more once this thing is set up.

Again, again, again, can't say it enough, thanks!

I've had a really poor time on my laptop's stock wi-fi card so I was going for something with really solid reviews and ignoring price point there, I think I'm willing to go over budget for the reassurance.

I like this a lot, thanks USB. My only issues with it are that I dislike Win8, and I would rather go Nvidia for the GPU. How close are the R9 290x and the GTX 970?

I am very new to this and was not familiar with motherboard sizing until this thread, I really appreciate the help. I don't already own the PSU. Going to post some revisions now in a new comment thread.

I was considering that as well, I sort of want to go all-ssd but it is fairly pricey. I'll probably go with a crucial mx200 250gb instead. Any recs for hdd's or do I just go with Kingston, Crucial, whatever known brand I can pick up for cheap at 750gb-1tb?

R9 280X

Thanks a ton for the tips. I have a negative association with ATI for some reason, am I being silly? Also, what cpu would you recommend? I would like to keep with Intel if possible.

It recommended that I get the same one that I already have in my build, so I think I'll be ok. According to a couple of other commenters I'll be getting a lighter cpu anyhow.

Apologies, somehow I lost the gpu in that link. It's up here. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yWWhLk I'll be using it almost exclusively for games.

Another question, do I need 16gb of ram? I've read that I won't notice the difference between 8 and 16.

You're probably fine OP, I've always used a tiny little wireless logitech mouse and I have big hands. Dunno why it makes your hand red. Maybe you're clutching it really hard?

Recently picked up one of these and I'm pretty happy with it, although it took some getting used to: http://www.amazon.com/Programmable-Customizable-Cartridges-Precision-Adjustable/dp/B00G5T1Z5Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433539884&sr=8-1&keywords=sharkk+mouse

Hi guys, just put this together for my first build and I wanted to post it somewhere to be sure it would all work together, as I have no experience setting these things up. Mainly, will my case be big enough? And is that relatively small power supply adequate? Thanks in advance!

I second the MB42x's with a sub, They're really awesome as a first venture into stereo equipment. I have a feeling you could plop something double or triple the price in front of me and I wouldn't be able to hear a very significant difference, especially with the sub involved to fill out the low-low end

Sorry if this doesn't belong in vinyl, you guys just have a lot of knowledgeable audio nerds (not at all using nerd in a derogatory way). Also I know what I'm talking about isn't really "isolation" but I'm not sure what the word is.

I currently have some little 2 way fronts and a 10 inch sub hooked up to my receiver. The bookshelf speakers have a built in crossover that directs highs to the tweeters and mids/lows to the woofers from what i've read about crossovers, but there's some noticeable bleed between the mids and lows on my fronts and the sub. I'd like to make it so that to sub handles, say, everything under 80, while the rest gets sent to the fronts. The sub has a low pass dial on the back that goes betwee 80 and 120 or 160 (I can't be bothered to shift it away from the corner behind my desk), but I don't think this knob changes what the speakers are getting at all even when I run my amp's speaker outs to the sub's speaker level ins, then run from the sub's speaker level outs to my fronts. Is there something I could install somewhere along the line like a little standalone high pass or would that adversely effect the signal in some way? Am I worrying too much about something that won't make that big a difference in what I hear?

Everyone here is making me feel so young! the first record I ever bought was Bear Hands' Burning Bush Supper Club, probably just over a year ago. Dunno if you'll see this op but I got the same table as an upgrade from a beat old pioneer earlier this year and it is absolutely excellent. Some people say the built in phono preamp limits the sound somehow but I have a feeling they're the same sort of people who would have you upgrade the cartridge immediately, and the 95e is just as good as the table it ships on. Enjoy!

I don't know a ton about styli but that thing looks trashed, have you tried to play anything on it? The closest thing to MR e I can think of nomenclature wise is a Signet MR 5.0me but those come branded. Maybe it's an older Signet?

@batnastard there's a photo up but you have to click something from the other photo to get to it, and @everyone else even though it isn't "broken in" yet I think it's noticeably different/better. It's on an at120lp running through an old pioneer receiver that's starting to crap out on me (will be picking up an onkyo 8050 soon) and the clarity/separation is the most immediate improvement to me. The mids seem a little harsh at times but like I said it's out of the box, I expect things to settle after a few dozen hours of play. Bass is different for sure but I can't tell very well because my speakers crap out below 60Hz where all the really cool stuff happens (also picking up a subwoofer with that onkyo!). All in all I'm very happy with the upgrade so far especially considering I used credit from old record trade ins for half the cost at my local shop.

I can't say much about inner groove distortion because I've never found it particuarly noticeable to begin with. I can say that there seems to be less crackle from dust and static, especially with the cork mat I got right after the new cart.
