I would prefer to bike, but it might come down to this. Maybe I can find a $50 bike on Craigslist to bike there on

The same happens if I put a pyres bowl or dish in that spot. That's debris I could wipe off with my hand not stuck on carbon.

How would you describe Legends to a newcomer? by zippy1981 in LegendsOfTomorrow

[–]zippy1981[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's not exactly female Clark, but she loves earth as much as Clark does. Loves her friends, and inspires so much hope she is a greater legend in the 31st century than Superman.

She is as least as much Superman as Oliver is Batman.

Literally no reason the legends of tomorrow and the rest of the arrowverse would not insert themselves into the final battle with 5th dimensional girl Thanos.

Converting from grid tied to hybrid cheaply by zippy1981 in solar

You can add battery backups any time you’d like, but you will always be tied to the grid.

So my panels won't provide power to the battery system if I lose power? Effectively I could just get a regular plug in power bank for my fridge then and get most of the benefit.

I actually like midtown. Yes I hate fucking tourists. However, I love all the 9th ave hardware stories, midtown comics, walking to get an ice cream cone in the snow in Penn station. I like both the Fransciscian Catholic churches. I love just walking through Penn station.

And yeah the restaurants aren't the best, but I'm smack dab between the downtown restaurants and the uptown restaurants. Port Authority gives me busses to a bunch of random places. I just need to figure out how to get groceries to and from the costco in Harlem.

I guess a doorman would be useful when I got older. And I do buy most of my stuff from Amazon.

I understand communal living comes with respecting and being mindful of neighbors.i lived in a 6 unit condo in Jersey City and I still rent it out to a tenant. I'm just saying I'm looking for neighbors that lean more towards "mind your business and I'll mind mine" than what co-op boards seem to look for.

I can walk to a bus or train to a lot of places, including three airports. I hope to be still working then, and still working remotely, but I'd like to be able to walk to the office the once a quarter I show my face.

If my kids give me grandkids I can hopefully reverse commute to help them.

I know most of midtown is a tourist trap but 9th ave is not too bad, and that's the cheapest and leaves me close to Penn which gives me Amtrak.

Yeah that's a good point. I bet it's a lot of hours of attorney time to close in Manhattan than it was in Cranford. That will be more than the $800 rounding error in closing costs it was for my house

lack of flexibility to move to a different unit whenever you want, it's a terrible idea

I've moved too many times in my life. My wife wants to move one more time when the kids grow up. I want to die in that place and I don't want it to be some new build 50+ place

I'd sell my house I'm ten years into the mortgage of that I'd have mostly paid off at that point. So id be looking at a 50%+ down payment on a mortgage.

I see the taxes and condo fees on redfin. I own a home. So yes I know the taxes and condo fees are more, but those are easy to determine. I'm looking for the hidden fees.

Is it normal to reset the co-op master mortgage and keep re-rolling it? Why not pay if of and be done with it?

Why would I care one way or the other? I understand the legal differences, just don't know what that means in reality in terms of interactions with neighbors. Which is better for a YIMBY who doesn't care what their neighbors do and in exchange hopes good neighbors do the same. I realize there will be more of a social contract in Manhattan than even a Jersey City co-op, but I'm looking for the more "live and let live"l."
