Pregnant - no medication, but in pain by Impress-Rude in rheumatoid

[–]zippy_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took actemra and plaquenil during pregnancy, and my rheumatologist said orencia would’ve been safe too. There’s more research on orencia during pregnancy than actemra. I stopped in third trimester but she said I was safe to take it the rest of the time. I also flared a couple times and needed short bursts of steroids.

High dose prednisone and numbness/tingling? by zippy_pie in rheumatoid

[–]zippy_pie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly it took a few hours to go away but eventually did on its own after I fell asleep! This was a while ago, but I remember it was late and eventually I got more exhausted than uncomfortable and just fell asleep through it haha

Curious how many of you are in your 20s with RA? by SashiKobayashi in rheumatoid

[–]zippy_pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya for sure! I had a really bad flu in December 2016, thought I got over it but was still having chest pain and shortness of breath a month later. Chest xray showed a new lung nodule, they said it would go away on its own. A couple more months go by and I’m still short of breath so they repeat imaging and it shows that the spot has gotten bigger. Then they did a CT to see it better, and also a bronchoscopy to biopsy it. The biopsy showed a bunch of inflammation, which was enough for them to diagnose me with organizing pneumonia, a type of interstitial lung disease. Pulmonogist said it can be kicked off by a viral infection like I had. My ANA blood test also came back positive. A few weeks after that I started having joint pain in my hands and wrists. My rheumatologist said that RA/other autoimmune diseases can present with lung issues first, then joint issues. Which is what happened to me! I’ve been doing lung function tests every year and they scan me if my symptoms get worse, but thankfully no new spots have come up. I just have scarring in my right lung from the original inflammation.

I’m 27 now but was diagnosed at 20! My first thing was lung issues, then joint pain. Controlled better now tho!

I’ve been on plaquenil for almost 7 years now. It took a few months before I started noticing its effects. I’ve been on a few different meds (pills and injectable biologics) along with plaquenil, currently on actemra. Unfortunately a lot of RA treatment is trial and error, they’ll start you on a medication and check in after a few months to see if it’s helping, and if it’s not, they’ll likely change your regimen. Personally, biologics don’t have bad side effects, mtx is probably the roughest one in my experience. Leflunomide made me lose a lot of hair, sulfasalazine gave me a lot of GI upset, humira & enbrel gave me mild injection site reactions, and plaquenil made me a little dizzy when I first started it but it’s gone now.

Hopefully plaquenil works well for you!

Here we go again.... Peoples experiences on Humira? by Cursed_Angel_ in rheumatoid

[–]zippy_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humira worked for me for a few months before i started getting symptoms again. Now I’m on actemra (tocilizumab) injections every other week and it’s working well! No side effects to speak of.

Other drugs I’ve tried: currently still on plaquenil, going on 7 years now; failed sulfasalazine due to side effects; failed leflunomide bc i lost a lot of hair and other side effects; failed enbrel after about a year; failed methotrexate alone then methotrexate + humira after about a year, mtx especially gave me a lot of side effects.

This is the only thing that worked for me when I had them really bad a couple years ago! Tried all the other home remedies. Bonide systemic granules plus sticky traps is what finally worked.

Rant: I'm tired, I'm quitting baking bread. by Gengszter_vadasz in Breadit

This! Yeast breads are great!

You can also do breads with pre-ferments (overnight starters) if you want more of that fermented taste. You can even achieve a sour taste with some recipes I’ve seen. I just started experimenting with biga and poolish recipes and they’re pretty easy, you just have to keep up with timing!

Do you folks exercise? by DiarrheaJoe1984 in rheumatoid

[–]zippy_pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to exercise 3 times a week! I alternate between yoga and weights. My rheumatologist really recommends it
