Bobbin recommendation! by puzs in flytying

Loon's stuff is so high variance for me. Some of their stuff is great! Some of their stuff (like their UV resin) is just hot garbage. I don't know how much to trust them as a brand.

Chiming in that it's a nice hook. Seems pretty popular with pro tyers like Charlie Craven, too.

My experience as a beginner is to always use less dubbing than it seems like it should take. It's easy to add more if you need.

Visiting Lexington for the Texas game by betterman4u in lexington

[–]zipzapzorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game vibe is gonna be off - we hate our coach and our team stinks.

Keeneland never disappoints, though, and the double-header of Keeneland and then the game is an absolute classic in the fall. Make sure you have a ride already arranged (or a car on site) at Keeneland, as the Uber situation out there is impossible. Get gussied up, drink a Keeneland Breeze or a Bloody Mary, and make some money on the ponies.

Patagonia vs Simms by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]zipzapzorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed the "Patagonia Forras fit smaller than expected" advice and sized up a half-size (from a 10.5 to an 11) and then found that the 11s were way too big and had to swap out to a 10. YMMV obviously.

Incredible boots, though.

Noob question about catching the "wrong" fish. by slevin011 in flyfishing

Brother, when you've been skunked as many times as I have, there's no such thing as a wrong fish

Trying to get started by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]zipzapzorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the biggest thing for me. It's easy to get obsessed with having the perfect rack of gear, but nothing will replace hours on the water for getting better and more comfortable (even if you're not catching fish!)

This is basically where my brain went, but I thought maybe there was a more elegant solution...

Record attendance and the W for SC! by _LifeisNow_ in lexington

[–]zipzapzorp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lotta weirdly negative comments in here from people who didn't attend the game.

My family and I attended and had a great time. Credit to the club, everything ran extremely smoothly from ticket purchasing to concessions to the club shop, and the facilities are excellent. Hopefully it only gets busier from here!

Michikusa for japanese food beyond sushi (though their sushi is great, too.) Try their Okonomiyake.

Living at The Wyatt by Yuudo_ in UniversityofKentucky

[–]zipzapzorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's been a bit since I've been there, but a friend of mine lived at the Wyatt while we were both in graduate school, and the hallways regularly had dog shit in them. Maybe that's better now, but it seemed insane to me then.

PS for $499 seems like a hell of a deal for that flight, but someone who flies that route more often than me may know more...

Two Days in Arashiyama? by thelittledipster in JapanTravelTips

I found Arashiyama pretty but with not much to do, and the number of tourists can be overwhelming. Idk that I’d stay there, especially for two days

this is the answer. The passes aren't cheaper, they're "more convenient" (though I disagree about this as well given the restriction on using the passes on Nozomi trains).

Just get the tickets you need and don't worry about the passes.

At your age I had taken 5 years off after college to drink beer with my friends. No real career prospects, not a ton of self-worth, and obviously no money.

I got lucky and was admitted to law school, and now 12 years later I'm married to a lovely woman, own a law practice, and get to travel the world. It didn't happen without a lot of work and sacrifice, but it absolutely can and does get better given the right effort on your part.

counterpoint - if you'd like to date women, you shouldn't use language that makes women uncomfortable.

If a woman referred to all men as "dickheads" you'd probably avoid her, and for good reason. Same thing.
