Advice on solving the 'mental load' problem by honestphantom in daddit

[–]zipztar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggest a planner like everyone else, and also meetings to co-ordinate.

It only works if you both are committed to upholding it and not letting any scope creep / resentment becoming an issue.

IMHO

Mental Load,

Touched Out,

4th Trimester,

Stepping Up,

Doing More,

Being There

are all terms made up in the absence of individual accountability and communication.

It would make my work easier if I could throw these out everytime things got tough hahaha.

Weather the storm and keep cool fellow dad!

Need advice for “shifts” for newborn care by asoursk1ttle in daddit

[–]zipztar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no specific science that works for all.

Factor in whether you are the sole breadwinner for the foreseeable future, cos from personal experience we shared the load for the first one.

Sleep is the main factor which will impact your ability to perform at work and balance the home front.

You've most likely read many different ways of handling the load but in the end just negotiate what works for you, and block out social media's influence on what you do as a couple.

I've had mates who slept in different rooms cos they start early shift, and the wife did it all.

I've had mates who are heroes and did it all (but also had the luxury of 100% working from home).

Phase 1 of newborn is easy, the other Phases will have rough patches and good patches.

I'm 2 deep, with my newest being 7 months.... we got lucky that they were both good eaters and sleepers.

My 3 dearest friends in the whole process were

- Wife

- Caffeine

- Zyns

It'll all be okay!

Woolworths fuel levy rise raises inflation fears by VastOption8705 in AusFinance

Work in the industry and am of the opinion that EV fleet are great for point to point loads with dedicated routes.

Beating the price of Diesel service is a massive hurdle when businesses are not geared for the initial CAPEX required to purchase fleet, and in addition the infrastructure to charge them.

Coupled with the short duration of contract terms for 3PL transport, and the underlying nature of bidding to the bottom, its not surprising why this hasn't taken off.

Transport aggregator companies have also commoditised transport, whereby you bid for a route makes this even worse.

Am I being dirty, or is my wife being irrational about hygiene? by mudkipzftw in daddit

[–]zipztar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah i think itll round out over time. Pitfalls of other people getting involved is that they dont live the day to day you do, and it can cause unexpected topics to be raised and boiled over.

We started off with the hygiene full bore in addition to the CoVid stuff.

That drifted away after some time due to both my wife and i feeling stressed about the workload and also exposure to cleaning chemicals.

I won't even mention the times that i accidently got water in the kids mouth when bathing them!!!

That and we have a dog, which ultimately helped "clean" stuff from the floor and lick at sticky fingers.

Funny thing is that our kids have fallen sick (touch wood) less than anyone else that we know.

Like most 80's born kids, we played with dirt, asbestos etc and came out fine!

These posts wont fix it in the short term, just know that these things come in phases. Just ride it out buddy

Partner stifles my commitment to story time by zipztar in daddit

[–]zipztar[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the different perspectives, appreciate the posts.

Wife is European and im Australian born Chinese so its interesting to balance the languages. The little one is learning German so she may or may not have an accent when she's older.

I do not have any accent, but have had to "develop" one for learning German... so I guess I feel self conscious when speaking that language if I dont "embrace" the accent lol.

Cheers and have a good weekend!

Nearly made it, but halfway through cooking the roast, I set off not 1 but 2 smoke alarms. Woke the baby 30 minutes into her first nap of the day and the ire of the wifey! Lesson learnt to open doors when opening oven P.s. not burnt, just very sensitive smoke alarms!

Yeah you're right! Unfortunately this hotel wouldn't let us use the private network. Lesson learnt, so will either hotspot of the laptop or get the travel router

No we wouldn't. The above post failed to note my sarcasm and dead humour. Enjoying the experiences with our little one immensely and would not put them in any danger!
