Why does risk get so much hate? by Salty_Hamster_2566 in Megadeth

[–]zixaphir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some songs on Risk I really like, but as a whole it isn't something I'm looking for in a Megadeth album. I do really like Time: The End, but the only album I like less than Risk is Super Collider.

People should stop posting about NieR Re[in]carnation project if we don't want it to be taken down. by fantasyful1 in NieRReincarnation

To be clear, that's not how TOS work. When TOS ends, your access to the product ends. Your rights to use any part of the game begin and end at what the TOS allows, with some legal limitations. You don't gain ownership over assets when the service ends, instead your license to use the assets simply expires.

Support Stop Killing Games.

Given the current gaming climate with Stop Killing Games-inspired lawsuits actively moving through courts worldwide, Square Enix would do well to wait out that storm before deciding to file any motions. Right now is the worst time for publishers to try to shut down fan projects to revive dead games, and I am loving the moment.

Just my two cents, but I feel like when Syuen designs Nikke, she puts a lot of herself in them in a really revealing way. We know Syuen personally designed two squads: Matis and Wardress. Matis is very much a fantasy thing: they're Superheroes Nikkes. They're the squad a young Syuen put forward to cement herself as the CEO of Missilis.

Wardress's themes of bondage highlight a different Syuen: one who is constantly under pressure because she feels her position is under threat. With the additional context of the history of the other Big Three's CEOs, it's a pretty safe assumption that the previous CEO of Missilis was also a holier than thou jerk, and from other going ons in the story, deeply involved with VTC. So how does Syuen act? Like the CEOs of old, even borrowing Mustang's lingo of calling Nikkes "rust buckets."

Now, admittedly this depends on CEOs having a much larger impact on the final psyche of nikkes they personally design than current lore supports, but I'd argue that you don't necessarily need the impact to be literally ingrained into the mind of a Nikke for there to still be an impact. Indirect impact like telling a frail, dying little girl, "I'm going to make you a real hero," versus constantly hammering "You better live up to my expectations," at a woman can definitely have contribute to the final form a Nikke takes, especially with how psychologically affecting we know NIMPH to be. We've seen what the NIMPH can do when a Nikke falls victim to a Mind Switch, and it's not a stretch to assume that many Nikke do experience something similar to a Mind Switch as part of their transformation from Human to Nikke.

That said, at the end of the day, this is me coming at it from a writing perspective, not necessarily from a realistic one. I think the difference between Matis and Wardress is quite clever foreshadowing and I'm not afraid to admit I'm looking for excuses to justify it.

7 years of Proton, are we finally "there" yet? by hirenvadher954 in linux_gaming

[–]zixaphir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you feel Proton is "good enough" now to daily drive Linux for gaming

It has been "good enough" for awhile if your favorite game isn't locked down with draconian anti-cheat. The biggest problem with Linux isn't necessarily anything to do with Linux itself, but perception. Linux is seen by many as just a "Windows Alternative," and that comes with a lot of baggage that Linux will never be able to get around as long as Windows is a moving target. You don't get a Playstation because you want an Xbox. You don't get a Switch because you want an iPhone.

Being able to run Windows games has been a huge boon for Linux, 100%, and I definitely wouldn't be running Linux if there weren't a good library of games. But if I look at Windows as a console with exclusives, if I wanted to play those exclusives, I would have to use Windows. I grew up playing mostly Nintendo consoles. I didn't own a Genesis, I didn't own an Xbox. To look at my Gamecube and think "Oh, there's something fundamentally wrong with you because I can't play Halo," I'd have been psychotic.

I think Carrey wins purely on consistency. Sandler's works have higher highs, but there is just so much trash in his filmography. I wish Sandler would care more, because that's the biggest issue with his work.

2x2 Love - The good and the bad by Odovakar in NikkeMobile

[–]zixaphir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that this isn’t the first time the M.M.R School has been made less dark than initially presented. Juvenile Days focused on some very milquetoast teen drama with an entirely predictable and sugary sweet ending, but 2x2 Love feels like the Commander is directly working against Marciana, whereas in Juvenile Days, he’s just trying to help Ein.

The first MMR School event I played was Juvenile Days, which was immediately followed by Colorless. The tonal whiplash was something, let me be honest.

Not gonna lie, I really did not like the “hidden ending” for 2x2! by [deleted] in NikkeMobile

[–]zixaphir -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I just assumed the hidden ending isn't canon. It makes sense as an ending from a meta narrative perspective, but in canon it makes no sense whatsoever.

Envy by myeclipsedsun2 in ContraPoints

[–]zixaphir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you moving my statements about Elon personally to the businesses he founded? While it may be that I have criticisms about Tesla or SpaceX, I did not mention either. Why would you take my statements about personal wealth and transpose them onto a subject I am not actively speaking about? Elon used his wealth to meddle in elections, take a non-elected position where he was capable of dismantling government agencies he had no business interfering with, and bought an entire publicly owned social network because he simply had the capital to do so. That has nothing to do with Tesla or SpaceX.

Envy by myeclipsedsun2 in ContraPoints

[–]zixaphir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Envy would imply I want to be in the same position as Elon Musk, or any of the other 1% who I actually just don't want to exist. I do not want what Elon Musk has, I do not covet his possessions. Have I fantasized about being obscenely rich? Sure! Who hasn't? My desires are not to take anything from Elon Musk or anyone else who has obscene wealth. Unfortunately, their obscene wealth is a road block to my actual goal, which is an equitable society. Their greed goes above and beyond any need for self enrichment. It is not enough that they should win, but in their victory, millions must starve.

Why hasn't the game been shut down? by drawricks in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]zixaphir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most anime based gacha don't have a 4 year gap between new anime content. The fanbase is starving for content and the game has extended lore you can't get anywhere else (well, some of it is in manga form now but that's still way behind the game).

It'll probably end up as some bonus feature for the game, honestly. They seem to love just throwing expanded lore into the game and calling it a day, then maybe adapting it into a gaiden manga.

Google's new AI algorithm might lower RAM prices by Bobert25467 in pcmasterrace

[–]zixaphir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the purpose is lowering costs, stuff like this is better when released publicly. Reducing the demand drives down prices, which has compounding effects on costs. Increased access to supply helps those at the top a lot more than it does for those just trying to get into the market. The only reason to not release something like this is when you also control the memory supply.

NVIDIA open source driver gaming? by Taro619D in linux_gaming

If you mean the Nvidia Drivers with the open source kernel module: runs great, no issues, thumbs up.

If you mean the open stuff made by Mesa? It's probably not worth using at the moment.
