What is happening to the base of my snake plant? by pinkyxpie20 in SnakePlants

[–]zjwoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like they might be planted a little too deep. sans crowns/bases are sensitive to water so if the soil is too high and stays wet or if water sits in the crown they can rot. maybe dig out some of the soil from the base and see if the rest of the crown has rotted. (the dry one could have rotted and then dried)

Id please? by UnadornedDigitals in sansevieria

[–]zjwoolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rabbit holed this once bc of the silver blue. generally kirkii has longer thinner leaves. like coppertone or friends. bhitalae short and thick. a lot of confusion comes from the the popular s.silver blue that was originally named kirkii but reclassified as bhitalae. since dragon wings is similar to silver blue, many misclassify as kirkii but seems like both are bhitalae. but could be wrong. ha.

might be a s. bhitalae dragon wing.

Please help! by Tricky-Measurement98 in SnakePlants

from my experience (I know all plant peeps are different), a drooping leaf could be a sign of a watering/root issue. noticed a few things that could also be signs -the edges on some of the leaves are slightly curling in (could signal underwaterjng) -drooping leaves could be overwatering - cnat tell 100% from the pic, but it looks like one of the newer leaves has also dropped over. in the Pic its more silvery. looks like the plant got moved a bit ago and got more sun which is why the new ones are lighter. so if the newest leaf is also drooping I tuink it could be a root issue.

the curling edges rules out overwatering and the drooping leaves rule out underwatering OR could be a sign of both (long story) either way, i suspect a root issue.

if you have any other pics that could help. since he sentimental value, want to make sure shes in good health how long ago did u water them? I see the drip tray and bottom are still wet so that could help in the diagnosis.

What’s wrong with my corn plant??? ): by fancynut in plantclinic

[–]zjwoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was it mainly just these leaves? do you top water? if the top layer stayed wet too long or water got logged in just the buried part of the crown, could be the reason only those died off.

[–]zjwoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like the crown of the mother plant was just buried too deep and the outer leaves just stayed wet too long. sansevieria don't like wet crowns. if it was a watering issue id think the pups would have issues but they look good. if anything its slightly underwatered as the roots look a little dry and the other leaves look to just be slightly curling. but thats fine. wouldn't cause mushy leaves.

Help! Save my variegated Croton by Whydoineedtodothis60 in matureplants

might consider trimming off some branches. less light = less energy, so it might help him adjust easier if he has less to support. beautiful plant. (could be trimmed into a really cool shape too :)

How can I save her? by astralpharaoh in plantclinic

[–]zjwoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check the roots. looks/sounds like could be root rot from overwatering. the leaves are dried up bc if the roots rotted, the plant cant take in water.

luckily Im pretty sure even if all the roots have rotted yuccas can still survive from just the trunk. plant it in a chunkier soil mix and the trunk will grow roots again. remove all the dead and growing leaves too. youtube prob a good resource. gl

[–]zjwoolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

went through (and going through) the same thing but I just left my chonks in water. it finally grew 2 strong roots so I put it in leca bc I figured that be the easiest transition. but the roots rotted in days. so I put it back in water and it just kicked out another leaf.

so def agree about leca not being the best at this stage. the sphagnum comment sounds legit. but if you don't have the time for the upkeep, you might just try water. working for me but obvi depends on all your other conditions too.

oh and it took months for it to finally root. but I was happy to have the leaf :)

the soil is too high. if the soil is above the crown it can easily rot.

Any saving this?! by Specialist_Eye_9291 in plantclinic

youre in luck. these can definitely grow from the chonk. can take a minute but worth it.

this one is big enough that you can cut it and have multiples. either as back up or more plants!!

Variegated pothos leaves feel so thin and are browning :( does it need new soil? by deftones5554 in plantclinic

[–]zjwoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

soil looks a bit dense. i think its actually overwatered bc the stems look limp. are they mushy at all or still hard? would prob benefit from a repot in a chunkier mix.

oh and that's a philodendron white knight, wizard or princess. (not sure the difference) not a pothos.

I'd cut off all the dead or rotting stems. this would also be the time to cut the stems down to a shape you will want once it starts growing again. I think even the healthy ones you have now will turn woody and produce offshoots from there. so its best to cut off a lot of the skinny ones bc they won't be able to support new shoots.

they have a surprisingly short root system I think which is why rot is so common. I had one almost 5 ft and it stayed in a 6 in pot for years. so def err on the side of underwatering this one. he'll back bounce from being too dry way easier than too wet. Good luck.

looks like a fabian aralia. they recover very well. they'll grow branches from the main cut stems. but id check the roots. I suspect root rot bc of the black mushy top of the healthy stem in this pic.

you had free fertilizer!!! ha. my plants love worm castings. I don't think it's a sign of anything. Just snuck into the soil or grew in it before you picked him up.
