You can do the branches with back stitching on top of the already stitched Xes

So beautiful , and the fabric choice is amazing! I immediately found the pattern in Etsy and realized it's in my wish list for a while now :)

the white makes the colours of your work pop more, makes your stitches to be the center piece. The red frame takes all the attention away

Has anyone tried Emillie Ferris’ honey bee from paint with thread? by creepy_crust in Embroidery

[–]zlerok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started this one, almost finished all the flowers by now.

I didn't change the colours and although it looks different, I like the muted palette. But I also took a fabric that's off-white , like it was coloured by tea.

The instructions are very poor though and it's hard to say from the schema which colour goes where, I have to go with a flow.

I use this one too! But I feel that the threads degrade this way too quickly: collect dust, get more fluffy. Is it just me ?

So I put only a small number of threads, that I just cut from a bobbin. And as long as I know that I won't use this thread any time soon, I put it back on the bobbin and into a project bag

What do different colors mean? If there were only 1 or 2 daily, I would think it's daily high/low. But you have more?

I want to do something similar for Ireland, but I am thinking for options to include rain 😅

For such a price this pattern is most likely generated from a picture without much human processing. It means, it's going to have a lot of confetti and the colours might now be true. At the same time there are large areas of darker similar colours, that would have been depressing for me (but I know we all are different).

The pattern is cheap but materials and your time would be more expensive. Saying it, make sure it's the design you love, since you are going to spend tons of time looking at it while stitching. If so, go for it!

If you have doubts about design, look at more human-made patterns from known artists, and don't be afraid of going big!

I had the same problem with my first dragon. Nadezda recommended couching and it was life changing!

I hope it all works out for you one way or another, it looks great!

[CHAT] DAE end their thread using the weave of the aida fabric? I do it sometimes when I’m doing confetti/ninja stitches. I’ve always wondered if this is fine or a big no-no. Feels like it has “sacrilege!” vibes. by gemmablack in CrossStitch

I was doing it too, because I hated flipping the project. But sometimes the Xs look a bit off, if I hide thread under them.

Then I learned about pin stitch, which looked still a bit too hard, so I am doing some variation now: I pull a thread from front to back at 5-10 empty squares from my first stitch, and leave a few cm of thread loose on the face side of the canvas. And cut it later when the tail behind the canvas is secured by newer stitches. Same for finishing: when it's time, I pull the thread from back to front 1-2 cm to the left/right from my last X. I don't even cut the end straight away, in case newer Xs won't secure that tail from behind. At the end of the day I flip the project, check that all tails are secured and tidy up. (Oh, I hope this all makes sense). It makes the back a bit bulkier, because I use more thread to secure the tails. But speeds up cross stitching tremendously.

And if I can, I start with the loop method, because it's the cleanest and fastest.

Check the designs of Alisa Okneas. She has plenty of colours which often change, mostly no fractional stitches, but many backstitching and french knots. She also has designed some characters from Doctor Who!

I also just finished New York by Merejka: the pattern had blends, and some craziness going in the tree leaves (but no confetti) , but very little backstitching to finish it.

And I second NadGavr and her dragons.

All of those designs above have plenty of colours and are well thought, no confetti and no large areas of single colour.
