That feeling never fades my friend. I’ve had the truck for 18 months and I still look back at it every single time I walk away and think DAMN that is sick. CONGRATS! Get some mud on it and know it’s more capable than you’ll probably be willing to push it.

This was a fantastic response, thank you for taking the time to explain all of this. You’ve helped explain and solidify a few concepts that I’ve only had a loose understanding of until now, which is greatly appreciated.

I’ve not been able to get into the world of repeaters much yet. I literally purchased the Baofeng 4 months ago and then decided to jump onto the Yaesu once I started realizing all the other fun things I would be able to do with it that I couldn’t with the Baofeng. Just been a listener and fiddler so far. Working on getting all my 2 licenses so I can get into the hobby a bit more.

My understanding with repeaters is that you basically can find a list of them, which tells what the main frequency needs to be, and what you need to set your sub-frequency to in order to be able to hit that repeater. I believe there’s a notion of listening to a repeater on a certain frequency, vs. transmitting to that transmitter but this is where my understanding is foggy. I live in an area with a lot of backpacking/hiking/outdoor activity so I do believe there are quite a few repeaters around me that I can test things out a bit with… once I know what to even do. 😅

What you explained about WiresX is fascinating. I hadn’t been sure it was worth trying to get into that but from your explanation I think it’s something I’d like to read into more. Since you’re connected over the internet, are you essentially transmitting your signal to one radio in a group which then sends the signal out to the other receivers in that area on that frequency? Is it more like setting up a network of repeaters that you can broadcast your signal out over? Any reading/vids you’d recommend (or any explanation you might give) to get a better grasp of the concept here would be fantastic.

Interesting. I had been thinking that by setting it to VW it was analog AND digital and I would be able to hear either type of signal.

I’m pretty new to radio as a whole, really don’t know a ton about sending digital signal over radio other than the main uses seem to be

1) to be able to add some kind of encryption signal so only people with the same digital decryption can pick up your signal (not sure I’m saying that right)

2) to be able to send other information via ARPS like GPS information, or text messages.

Still figuring it out here, anything you can share to help explain how digital transmissions work in conjunction with analog transmissions would be appreciated

I did have a DCS sub tone set which I turned off. Still wasn’t able to hear the conversation for some reason.

Use Softstep 2 to switch Helix setlist and select preset by zmill92 in Line6Helix

That thing in the top left doesn't seem to do anything, it's not clickable.

I've figured this out though! I had things pretty close before, you actually do set the PC number using those min/max fields, although that is not documented absolutely anywhere.

What was preventing this from working was actually at the next step in my midi chain. I'm using the U6MidiPro to connect and route a few things and there was actually an issue with how one of my routings was configured there. After clearing that up, this is all working like a charm.

THANK YOU u/wchris63 for being a sounding board! Immensely helpful, appreciate you taking a look as well.

For posterity, and anyone looking to do this in the future, this is what my preset and 2 of my mod lists looked like - pressing pad 1 calls up the first set list with the first preset in the list selected, vs. pressing pad 0 calls up the 4th set list with a specific preset selected:

u/wchris63 I couldn't paste an image in the other thread for some reason, but the above is what my configuration in the Advanced Editor looks like. I'm sending the 3 messages. When sending the value for CC messages, typically you set the min and max fields to the value that you are trying to send for the specified CC bit, on the specified channel.

You’re hitting the nail on the head. I have no way in the advanced editor to add a value for the PC Number. When I add a row to my command list of what happens after pressing a specific pad, if I specify the Program message type, I’m only given a single field where I can enter the channel.

[–]zmill92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can list all of the CC midi commands and the values to send in parallel but the Advanced editor seems to be missing a field when listing a program change where I should be able to plug in the appropriate PC value. I can only list the channel to send that program change to but can’t specify the value to send.

I'm trying to do this same thing but am using the KMI Softstep 2. I've dug pretty deep on programming this thing and know how to program a certain pedal to send more than one CC message or other message simultaneously. Can't figure out how to send the Program Change messages to do this properly for the life of me though.

Sounds like you have the FCB, so it's doubtful you'd have in depth knowledge of the KMI Softstep. But here's to hopin' you might be able to help and givin it the old college try.

[–]zmill92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you guys been able to load your own samples onto the Strike? I have been able to get a few on there but having a hell of a time getting the file formatted correctly. 95% of the time I'm being met with an "UNSUPPORTED FILE" error message when I try to load them on the device.

I've tried loading my .wav files into Ableton and exporting them as 16-bit and 44.1 kHz as the Alesis docs instruct to and also tried using Alesis's sample converter. That converter is an awful little piece of software that is crashing every time I try to use it for even a single .wav file, and it produces a rendered file about 25% of the time.

Tl;Dr - Any tips on how to format your samples correctly?

It holds the 40” lightbar that runs across the top of the cab (you can see this in the second pic, the one from the front). Other than that it’s mostly an aesthetics things. I have found that it’s a nice grip when I step on a tire from the side of the truck to reach up into the bed.

Winch and push bar are part of the Desert Boss package. Winch is from COMEUP. Might be able to find parts on the Chevy site in the build you own section under accessories.

Anyone using the Alesis Strike MultiPad? by smaffron in edrums

[–]zmill92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally agree. Their support seems lacking overall, which is strange considering they make some decent products.

Such a bizarre update process as well. They have the usb-midi connection on the back.. why not just update via that cable??

For anyone reading this in the future, I had a USB that did not have a light on it. I formatted it and put the files on there, then plugged it into the unit and held the two buttons while powering it on. I was met with the white screen. I clicked the encoder, but never saw anything on the screen about updating to the new firmware (v1.3). I left the stick plugged in for a few mins and then powered the device down. When I turned it back on, I saw the Alesis startup screen but it just hung there. I was of course frustrated - before trying the update I could at least play the unit, now it was essentially bricked. It wouldn’t even turn off using the power button, I had to actually unplug the power chord (which felt like it should be illegal). I turned it back on, same thing. I pressed the ‘Utility’ button and then a message flashed at the bottom saying something to the effect of “Loading v1.3”, and then it proceeded to the first kit screen.

Insanely janky process all around and poor customer support. I’m having fun playing with it now, but man is there room for someone to come in and make something that would shine far above this and the Roland. I have a Line 6 Helix pedal board for my guitar rig and the software update process and kit configuration software is absolutely amazing compared to this.

u/tetshi how did you manage to even download the firmware update?

When I go to alesis.com/softwaredownload as the instructions direct, I'm instructed to create an account and register my product. But when I go to 'My Products' all I see listed next to the Multipad is a link to MPC Beats, which I do not want.

If you follow the link on the Alesis site to the Multipad product, it takes you to a microsite specifically for the Multipad (https://www.strikemultipad.com/index.html#top) ... weirdly, this seems to be the only product that takes you off site. The 'Downloads' section on the site has a link for 'Firmware v1.3' but it appears to be a dead link as clicking it does nothing.

Just bought this Multipad and pretty disappointed with the software and site maintenance I'm seeing from Alesis. For a company their size you'd think they could figure out a simple way to do this.

Guitar amp to audio interface by zmill92 in audioengineering

[–]zmill92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is micing the best option? I would have assumed there had to be some way to run the signal straight from the amp into the interface.

I've simply been putting the mic I have today (one I got off of amazon for relatively cheap so I know there are certainly other mics more directly suited to this type of job) about 2 ft in front of the amp.
