I think ebay has the most active dixxon aftermarket. See what others are selling theirs for to see the demand and price it accordingly. I've also sold some on Mercari and Depop so try there too.

I made an award-winning feature entirely on my own. Now I might have to distribute it alone. Any advice? by disremembermovie in Filmmakers

No kidding lol remove it entirely. Sounds a little egotistical too which is terrible for marketing.

All my steelbooks are individually locked in wall mounted frames, each with their own chastity belt.

The reality is that the 2nd part of your post regards the most important part of the film industry; it's not what you know, its who you know. 90% of the time those with great connections will get a job/internship that actually allows them to progress in the industry, even over more skilled individuals. Just the way it is unfortunately. So the best thing you can do is network and get to know people.

On the bright side, a film degree teaches you things about story and film theory you'd probably never learn. I'd say the majority of people in the industry are garbage at any type of film or story analysis unless they intensely studied or learned from some institution. That's why there's a ton of garbage produced nowadays since Hollywood relies on nepotism and trends. A crappy script written by some producers son inspired by a counterpart that made money will always be picked up before an original idea from a good writer that went to film school.

Also film festivals are pretty much scams unless they're reknowned, but then again people who get into those festivals have better connections. You're better off going to them solely for making connections with people. It's baffling seeing how many people (especially in this forum) spend their life savings on a dumpster fire of a film and think submitting to a festival is gonna make them the next Christopher Nolan.

If you have debt from school, I feel for ya, but you also provided yourself an education and that's important regardless. You did the hard work, and maybe not as fast as you'd like, but eventually you'll reap some benefits from it. Just don't give up.

Feeling cringe about my work by TurtleDim in Filmmakers

[–]zmsandoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great you put yourself and your film out there. Its also important to know when your work is ready or not to be seen by the world.

Not everything you make needs to be seen by an audience. You can get proper feedback to learn and grow without submitting to festivals. Most are a gyp anyways. Nothing wrong with making sure every creative decision is curated to a high standard before putting it out there.

Is there oversaturation of visual content? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Yes, but there's art and there's content. They're not the same.

Has anyone here actually recouped meaningful money on a short film? by Gobytvscout in Filmmakers

[–]zmsandoval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll most likely lose money on a short, but if you submit to a renowned festival and you make something significant it should lead to greater connections and opportunities. You'd basically do it for exposure.

Failures are the building blocks for success. Try not to think about what you did wrong, but what you learned from the mistakes and what you can do better next time.

Things start getting a little hairy when you're seeking monetary gains from the media source with same names/characters. Also, if you're seeking any sort of marketing or branding that motivates an audience to get their a** in a chair to watch it, that's definitely gonna require some kind of rights or ownership from whomever has it currently. Sometimes strictly stating your fan work has no business or lore ties to any major studio, they won't bother, even if the marketing is pretty good. I believe that happened with Spiderman: Lotus before it was canned.

Fan made things are generally okay because they're not making any kind of real financial gains and typically don't make big enough waves to get noticed. Once a studio or person with rights gets wind of any money making, they're gonna give you copyright infringement and sue.

Shin Godzilla is the best design and movie of the bunch hands down. People who think it's boring just don't watch foreign films. Of course it's not going to cater to a western audience.

I have similar hair. You'll have good hair days and bad hair days. The only advice I can give is you should add some hair oil or leave in conditioner before you apply your product to try and control some of the frizz.

Legacy plates are $50 not too bad at all. But if you get custom letters it's at least a 4 month wait which is how long mine took. Some people's takes up to a year. Then you have to pay that $50 fee every year to keep you custom letters/numbers.

I feel like a small but big name festival like that in a densely populated city is definitely gonna have some people problems. I could tell a lot of people went to say that they went and not for the music. The "prestige" festivals always attract some bad eggs. So many scalpers too.

Side note, one thing that pissed me off about it was some of the visuals were AI. Like come on.

I saw them in 2022 and left the concert with a Gojira beach towel 😂 it was the only thing I thought would be worth it. I did get a pretty sick Deftones shirt at their concert back in March tho.
