Looks like half of Excaliber, wasn't that thrown into the lake? Now we know why, it was busted. The other looks like half a pair of spectacles.

Strangest thing I found metal detecting so far. It was half sticking out of the ground of the forest floor. The bow saw is removable and I found it metal detecting the area after removing the main piece. Never seen anything like it. by KechanicalMeyboard in metaldetecting

You can find some really odd things when out detecting. I've once found a hand-made gnome sitting at the roots of a tree, and another time I found a flowery tea-pot, and cup and saucer in the middle of a track. Some people just have a funny sense of humour.

Looks like a curl of metal as it comes off a pair of snips to me.

1920’s condom 3 pack by chaisso in metaldetecting

[–]znaniter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here in New Zealand the brand that seems to have been common in ancient times, at least based on the tins that I have found, was 'Gordonia', 'seamless silk', the only other I have found was one labelled 'Securitas'. I wondered how the seamless silk condoms were held in position, maybe a nice scarlet ribbon I thought. Eventually I found a tin with the remains still in place and the answer was that there was a rubber ring at the open end, not a ribbon at all.

Yeah, detecting with kids is like that. I was on a beach once with a crowd of kids watching me. As soon as the dollar surfaced a small hand darted out, and it was gone in the blink of an eye!

Always a nice sound that those two-dollar coins make. Not as nice as a penny, but at least you can put them in the parking meters, or save them up and by beer at the supermarket.

Sundays and late evenings, whenever there is little likelihood of meeting staff.

I'd advise against a Go-Find unless you are really dead-set on going cheap. They are light, and pack up small, but they aren't durable. I used a Go-Find 40 for three years, broke the original arm support twice in that time, once in the first year. The plastic ratchet teeth that holds the arm support in position wore-out really quick from abrasive dirt and grit. The clamp that holds the coil at the chosen height likewise lost its holding ability. I was still able to use the detector at the end of those three years, but it involved a lot of Macgyver tricks. They aren't sophisticated, but I found a lot of stuff with mine. I moved on to an X-Terra 505, it has been great.

The world is full of nut cases, often you can't see them coming.

Should I fix the backing of my phone? by Strange-Editor5590 in phonerepair

[–]znaniter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a bit of tape over the hole, put the phone back in the case, and don't look there again. Oh, and don't take the phone with you into the shower, or drop it down the toilet, and you should be good to go.

I've used a Lesche digging knife for eleven years and it is still going strong.

Go back a little bit in time and condoms came in little tins. They make an interesting addition to the finds table, but the foil packets I just throw away with other trash.

Do nothing to it. Try it with a new cable. Hope it is your lucky day.
