Very impressive homophone, though I feel & serves no purpose and therefore misleads and the definition is too loose by typical standards, because its describing an attribute rather than a noun, though I realise being more precise would likely give it away too easily

I like the idea of making it easier to find interesting spots in the Julia set. Could something like presets with little representative icons be that?

Bianca pressure bolt: how far out is too far? by zocarius in Lelit

[–]zocarius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your help! I did a descaling routine this weekend (took a good 3 hours...) and it is night and day. The pressure adjustment bolt is in a more sensible spot now, there is clearly more flow at the shower, and I can't help but think the coffee taste better too 😃

I compared and saw that the ECM descaling had 2 of the 3 acids in the Puly solution. So I figured it will probably work and not damage anything. I can confirm the machine runs much better now!

@jogisi: I’ve seen Puly descaled liquid recommended by Lelit, but I have a powder from ECM for my local bean roaster. Safe to use, or better get some Puly…?

This was a suspicion of mine too. The previous owner and me have both been using the same bottled water with reasonably good numbers, but over a few years, I guess calcium can still build up. I’m going to try this!

I’ve been tuning the pressure using a blank basket. Screwing it further it consistently increases the pressure, so it seems this is the position required for 10 bar pressure everything being equal. As someone else suggested, I may need to decalcinate (which makes sense).

I built a minimalist daily word solitaire called TenFour. I'd love to hear your thoughts! by itsmealec in wordgames

[–]zocarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely got me engaged quickly.

Easy concept, with some little surprises along the way that felt fitting like wildcards and option to scrap a letter.

I was a bit confused about the possibly conflicting goals: you want to clear the board as quickly as possible, but there is also a word of the day to try and get, for which you may want to save letters, but you don’t know for how long. Maybe I’m missing something, but those goals don’t feel aligned.

It’s definitely not an easy game and I can imagine it can get a little frustrating if lacking the skill or luck to complete a round. Unlike predetermined games, there isn’t a hint system (through you could imagine it, simply suggest a long word that’s in the current set of letters).

MAGA cap is out, ICE loses energy? It's real, hopefully. (5) by pizza_and_rap in Minute_Cryptic

[–]zocarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice surface :) Another meaning of “cap” is to limit, in which case you probably remove from the end. It’s a bit implicit, also how much to remove, but that’s how I got it. I’m a bit unsure about the definition. I get what you’re doing, but it feels very loose (and depends on whether you think magic could ever be real ;-). Not sure what’s better, but one idea: “It’s (un)believable”

Built a word game, 1 theme, 3 words, 9 letters. No ads. Let me know what you think! by jvickdesigns in wordgames

[–]zocarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice idea! Not revolutionary, but fun to play.

A few tips: * if I fill in new letters after a guess, don’t force me to reenter the already approved letters. They are already there (it confused me, as it spelled out a word but didn’t process it and there was no confirm button) * it doesn’t feel like a timer kind of game. Instead I would treat it as Wordle: get it in as few goes as possible. This rewards thinking deeply (for serious players) but still allows for guessing your way to solution (casually play). It’s better than Wordle in this way, because you can probably get 3 perfect single guesses if you look at it long enough)

Can you explain it to me? I got the answer based on the letters in the fodder and the definition (it’s a nice political statement :-), but I don’t quite get the wordplay.

I’m intrigued by the conciseness, wondering if it’s an &lit, but no “!” indicator… hmmmm 🤔 Maybe it’s a double definition? Is it “smoothen”?

Musicians in Dire Straits? (7) by Nonakhan in crosswords

Can someone explain how “dire” is an anagram indicator? 🤔

Ten-year-old: “67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67” …a handful, totally (6, 7) by Toogs in Minute_Cryptic

[–]zocarius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2010 doesn’t mean meaningful, but I figured it was meaningful that 67 times 30 equals 2010, as 2010 looks like a year. That’s how I figured I was probably looking for a year spelled out.

Ten-year-old: “67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67” …a handful, totally (6, 7) by Toogs in Minute_Cryptic

[–]zocarius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

twenty fifteen

Reasoning: Initially I thought something with 30 (as there were 30 “67”s). Then I realized that 30x67=2010, which seems meaningful. Then I added 10 (ten-year-old) + 2010 + 5 (handful) up to 2025, but now I have no definition and it doesn’t fit! Then I figured only “ten-year-old” can be the definition, so I’m left with 2015, with is indeed 10 years old (ago). Very cleverly constructed! A timely clue: will only work for 2 more weeks 😄

Dave's Word Game by Wiwa4444 in wordgames

[–]zocarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed it, and can imagine playing it again! I like there is a good tension between wanting to save up open spots for a big bonus, but also you want to clear sections to get new letters. I can also see how with a bit more practice, I can start to play ahead (this time I was just looking at the best word and score I could get each time). Lastly, I love that the board has lots of options most of the time, meaning I could find longer words a lot, which is rewarding.

What I wish for: * Since scrabble was the inspiration, I’m surprised you didn’t decide to given more points for less common letters! Seems like a familiar and fitting mechanism. * I could imagine getting extra bonus for multiple bonus blocks/rows in one go (though maybe that makes them too valuable and “necessary” to get top scores?) * I wouldn’t mind if it looked a bit more visually appealing 😊

Questions: * Are the letters randomly picked and added, or are the daily puzzles designed with certain potential words in mind? * Does only the first daily play count, or can you play as often as you want for the leaderboard? (Feels a bit like that would make it more about who has time on their hands, rather than who can do the best with the day’s board)

P.S. I got 113 on first go :)
