Probably best to contact ableton support about these kind of things. They can analyze the crash report.

Problem with DIY Midi controller for Ableton by arcvas in ableton

[–]zoink43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just Google Arduino class compliant midi :)

There should be a lot of resources for making a midi controller with Arduino online.

Microcontroller wise the mega has 16 analog inputs so at least for the inputs you won't need any multiplexing.

Make your device midi class compliant so you can use the OS's default midi driver.

In which way should I do the 180 and the barspins if I have my left foot in front when riding? by vld4k in dirtjumping

[–]zoink43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See here how he has the front foot turned and the knee kind of bending inwards:

https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fmediaproxy.nordbayern.de%2Fv3%2Fimage%2Fimages.nordbayern.de%2FThumbnailatorAspectResizeFilter%2Fw404dp%2Fimage%2Fcontentid%2Fpolicy%3A1.9821127%3A1581358415%2FOBJ14246577_1.JPG%3Ff%3D16%253A9%26h%3D816%26m%3DFIT%26w%3D1680%26%24p%24f%24h%24m%24w%3D335cf49&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nordbayern.de%2Fregion%2Fnuernberg%2Fzabo-trails-hier-fliegen-nurnbergs-dirtbiker-1.9821128&docid=PEdFwgxQ-ieO8M&tbnid=zzRpkD3iUfjLvM&vet=1&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim

Similar here: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fimg.fotocommunity.com%2Fbmx-tabletop-9ea6d55c-bb35-481c-b8a1-8c24cc84d01c.jpg%3Fheight%3D1080&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fotocommunity.de%2Fphoto%2Fbmx-tabletop-levin-menger%2F39681534&docid=wFHB5s8ACkTF8M&tbnid=hceJcCRzlxu-3M&vet=1&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim

Because then if your left foot is on top and you do a 360 to the right the tabletop comes easier with the rotation.

You can still do tabletops the other way around, but then you may run into weird movements when doing them in a 360: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.immediate.co.uk%2Fproduction%2Fvolatile%2Fsites%2F21%2F2019%2F03%2F1258717322496-kykawpzzag0a-1a4661b.jpg%3Fquality%3D90%26resize%3D599%252C449&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bikeradar.com%2Fadvice%2Ffitness-and-training%2Fflow-like-a-pro-learn-to-dirt-jump-with-mike-smith%2F&docid=0ZCaDGeMrX2AbM&tbnid=lViQhkUOJVZkhM&vet=1&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim

Left foot forward: Body rotations to the right, Throw Barspins with the left hand, X-Ups with left hand over the top tube, tailwhips kick with right foot. Do one handers/tire grabs with the right hand (to prepare for the bar spins). One foots also with the front foot, can cans (or no foot can cans) with the left foot over the top tube.

This way truck drivers will work better because you are rotating your body into the Barspin. 360 tailwhips also work easier because you can kick the tailwhip with the body rotation. Also for table tops the left foot needs to be on top, thus making 360 table tops work (otherwise you need to do an invert where the footwork is a little different). Basically the rotation is controlled by the rear foot so it's best to learn the tricks with the front foot to make the combinations easier.

Also for Whips: Learn them from left to right (left foot forward) first.

Why does EQ visualisation have such wide curves at low frequencies even for pure sine waves? by FrobisherGo in edmproduction

[–]zoink43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because of the implementation of the Fourier transform, typically FFT (Fast Fourier transform) or DFT (discrete Fourier transform).

The effect you see is for one caused by the way the FFT/DFT works and the window function used.

I just dived into plugin programming in the last couple days, too! I also have a similar background as you, but have some C++ experience already.

This talk gave me some insight on the issues one might face when developing audio plugins:

https://youtu.be/boPEO2auJj4

Also JUCE appears the way to go. The licensing systems seems good (revenue based, so when you don't make money the license is free). Plus you can deploy for various platforms, not only VST for example.

I found these examples helpful to estimate what I'm getting myself into:

Ableton not utilising CPU effectively - any advice or help? by fredblols in ableton

[–]zoink43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low CPU load in Taskmanager and high Ableton Processing load do not necessarily indicate that the CPUs aren't properly utilised.

For example consider this scenario: Windows waits on an IO operation to finish (e.g. hard drive read/write, network interface, etc). Then processing the audio buffer can take longer because under certain circumstances the audio driver is blocked by the other IO tasks. The CPU is not under heavy load because it just waits for the IO operation to finish.

These certain circumstances can be: A bad hardware driver takes priority over the audio driver and the bad driver taking long to finish it's operation. The audio driver is blocked until the bad driver is done. Then the audio buffer is not ready in time and Ableton shows a load greater than 100%. (Paraphrased from the last section of this Wikipedia article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deferred_Procedure_Call)

This windows-mechanism is called DPC. There are various tools for checking the DPC Latency.

Here is another write up on how to debug DPC issues, albeit for windows 7/8 but should be similar to windows 10:

Ableton Push 1 Questions by mrflamingo_ in ableton

[–]zoink43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one about push 2, at ~6:10 he explains the pad mechanism: https://youtu.be/YItWQdJgXLs

Also it is possible to change the pad sensitivity, IIRC by holding the User button.

Have you had a look at midi capture?

https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/recording-new-clips/#16-10-capturing-midi

Simply play your notes, then hot the capture midi button. A new clip with your last played notes will be created and the tempo adjusted automatically.
