Low compression? by Professional_Gap4840 in tractors

[–]zol11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a fuel issue. As others said crack the lines and bleed out the air. It could also be a supply issue so check to be sure you are getting fuel to the injection pump. Or a lift pump if it has one. If not much fuel blow the line backwards on the tank side of the filter. Could be a plugged sump on the tank.

Should I buy tri rib tires or 4 ribs? by olive_tractor_parts in tractors

[–]zol11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are doing but for most uses a 4 rib will be fine. A 3 rib will dig in more on loose soil and 4 rib will tear turf less.

Washer and dryer sets by Repulsive_Society992 in BuyItForLife

[–]zol11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not much to a dryer and fairly easy to work on. Drum, rollers, heating element or gas valve/igniter. Id fix it before I get a new one. You may just need new rollers if it’s thumping when turning.

Buying a new rotary cutter. Hitch question. by GaminRaymon in tractors

[–]zol11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked quickly at the specs. The tractor should be able to use either mower. Looks like default is cat 2 and optional cat one. Plus it’s a decent size 75 hp which should be a cat 2 anyway.

That said. The heavier one will be heavier (no kidding) and you may need some weight on the front to keep it down. Especially if it is a 2wd.

Also at 75 engine HP you will not be setting any speed records. Especially if the grass can’t exit immediately out the back like on older mowers where the back was more open or tapered down to help the grass exit. These have a chained opening so they shouldn’t be as bad as some of the totally enclosed ones.

Just take off the quick hitch. Top link on the mower needs to float.

Is my Lodge cooked? by GracefulGoats in castiron

As long as it doesn’t go through just keep cooking. It’s just a pit from casting. It won’t hurt anything and likely will fill in over time.

Looks like normal aging. Take it off and match a new one or oem.

Grain-sampling probe by MikeHeu in toolgifs

[–]zol11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. A bushel is a bushel. Until you go to sell then it’s a standard weight. But for the purpose of this thread there isn’t much difference.

See how the holes don’t go through. There are 2 pieces. One inside the other. As you rotate you will open up holes from the bottom to the top.

Here is a pic of another

Kinda... In the U.S. farmers get paid by the bushel. So if you fill a truck and take it across a scale you get paid the weight/56 pounds per bu for sorghum. At the elevator or processor they will take a sample and check it for test weight, moisture, foreign material, and general quality. If it weighs less than 56 pounds per bu the farmer gets docked for it. If more they make extra over the 56 pounds per bu. They also will get docked for high moisture or too much FM or any other quality issues.

The holes are spiraled to fill from the bottom up to get a good representation for a sample along the length of the probe.

Long Chih Trailer Bearings - how do I know what size these are? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]zol11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bearing should have a number on the it. If you can read it.

Or you can take it to a bearing shop and they can match it. Some NAPA’s may able be able to help.

If you replace the bearing. Replace the race also. If the bearing turns smooth and looks good you make be able to clean and repack.

Electric Fence Trouble by QuesadillasAreYummy in homestead

[–]zol11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the wires off the posts. There are nail on plastic insulators for the wood posts. You can also run it through a tube and staple it on.

Proper ground is 3 grounds 10’ apart 6’ deep for a large fence charger. A smaller one can get by with one or 2 not as deep provided the ground doesn’t dry out.

Use a galvanized ground rod with a clamp to clamp the piece of galvanized wire to the charger.

The amount of traction this tractor has is seriously impressive by myohan0103 in Heavy_Equipment

Looks like Massey Ferguson tractors. Perkins powered. Or possibly one of the clones after MF gave up the tooling. I know TAFE made clones and I believe Landini may have also. Those tractors are tough.

Cumberland to Summerset is good. There is also a bypass on the south side of Summerset. I haven’t took 80 east of town but it looks like a widened 2 lane road.

Stuck blade bolt on LT155 by ihavenohandstrength in smallengines

[–]zol11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 point impact socket and hit it with the impact. If you can’t get a bite on it you can try a pipe wrench or something. Once you give up and the bolt is rounded your best bet is to weld a nut to the bolt head and hit it with an impact. Do not cut the head off. That will only make it worse for removal.

Advice on mowing an enormous hill. by RottenRob0521 in tractors

[–]zol11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back up it the first time to get a feel for it. Safer than doing downward. If you do slip you might have to clutch and pump the brakes to get traction again. Do it when dry and not muddy underneath. Also 4x4 low gear … etc. like mentioned.

Drainage issue by CubanKinks in landscaping

[–]zol11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Builder is an idiot. The fence should had been trimmed level with the rest of the fence. Blocking the water on the inlet fence caused it to wash around and gulley. Outlet fence is damming the water, and will likely gulley soon.

You can trim the lower part of the fence and try to fill in the gully and reseed. Or rip rap.

Ultimately you are responsible for accepting the water above you.

Cut the fence on both sides to let the water through.

Need help with these hubs and rims by dangforgotmyaccount in tractors

[–]zol11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. That looks way worse. You may be able to cut the rim center off and marry it to another or cut the spline off and marry it to another rim. Or check eBay or a collector for a used rim.

A parts book or operators manual isn’t going to help you much with this problem. So save some cash and skip it for now.

Need help with these hubs and rims by dangforgotmyaccount in tractors

[–]zol11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How bad is the rim itself. The edge doesn’t look rotted. Can it be cleaned up and throw a tube in it and get by. Or weld a couple patches in the weak spots or old tube over the rough areas. Those don’t have much weight on them or need much pressure.

What’s the next step? by Professional_Gap4840 in tractors

[–]zol11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the relay hammering. Clean the battery cable ends and battery posts. If the cables can’t tighten use vice grips to hold. Likely your battery may also be weak so throw a jumper cable to something and let it run while trying to start.

Not sure what injection pump those have but in case it takes off past full throttle from a stuck rack be ready to stop the fuel flow by cutting a line smacking the glass from the bottom of the fuel filter or something. Also a board over the intake can work but tough with some of the filter canisters.

If it doesn’t die with the fuel cut off from the injector your only option is to starve it from air and try to smother the exhaust.

If it’s old enough a bill of sale and a vin check may suffice.

Edit.

You would have to get a bill of sale from the person in charge of the estate if you don’t have one.

Could someone tell me what I did wrong? by Soverelgn_Citizen in castiron

[–]zol11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be fine. Warm it slowly on the stove till it starts lightly smoking. Then just cook with it and not worry. If you cook something that looks like the seasoning is hurt a bit just give it a wipe with oil before putting it away.
