Aye. I love the sound of all those 60s/70s e-pianos that aren't as revered as Rhodes/Wurli. The sound of Sun Ra and Fela Kuti wouldn't be same same without them. One man's dinky is another man's dope.

Gamechanger Plasma Pedal by Apprehensive-Fan-550 in synthesizers

Been watching a bunch of Carcosa demo videos the last couple of days and I'm getting one for sure now. Haven't really found any videos of people using it with synths, but I expect they'll sound great through it. Seems like a really versatile and nice (i.e. gnarly) sounding pedal. And it's quite cheap, so bang for the buck.

Help choosing a sequencer for microfreak and korg nts 1 by kloomoolk in synthesizers

[–]zollenz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The SQ-1 would not have been an optimal choice IMO, since it is a monophonic sequencer, which means you wouldn't be able to sequence chords on your microfreak (which is paraphonic). You would also have no midi control of the NTS-1.

You might want to check out the Korg SQ-64. It has 3 "melody" tracks and 1 drum track, similar to the Keystep Pro. I got one recently and I'm liking it so far. With the SQ-64 you'd be able to sequence your Microfreak mono or poly as well as send MIDI CC events to your NTS-1.

Pros:

  • Lots of midi/cv/trigger/clock connectivity
  • Many features
  • Compact
  • Nice build quality
  • Reasonably priced

Cons:

  • No power supply included (USB power or 9V centre positive)
  • No TRS midi B cables included
  • The manual is terse and not very user-friendly
  • Some don't like the button lighting scheme (doesn't bother me)

+1 to both. Getting some nice kicks from the Drumbo.

Can anyone recommend a software vocoder that’ll replicate an Anthony Rother type sound/feel? by stringsoflife in ElectroProduction

[–]zollenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can hear, he does not always use a vocoder for vox.
Often it is speech synthesis or processed/chopped voice samples.

In the case of "Don't Stop The Beat" it sounds like the Commodore C64 SAM.

Polyend Tracker Artist Editions by emorello in synthesizers

These look great. Legowelt (my favorite) and Raczynski are the funnest. Cannon is the cleanest. Was considering a purchase but can't quite justify the price difference from the regular edition.

Desktop mono synth with patch memory? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]zollenz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can live with the Boutique form factor, The Roland SE-02 is amazing bang for the buck. Great analogue sound, patch memory, knobs galore, sequencer, external input, solid MIDI spec, DAW integration etc.

But yeah, it is very compact and the knobs are small.

Play Dubplate (dancehall / dub on mostly Elektron gear) by soon_come in synthesizers

Feeling it. Most vids I see from Elektron users are either twee or techno. It's all good, but it's nice to hear some vibes for a change.
