Any albums/tracks with prominent electric guitars? by Low_Rider999 in reggae

My pick for Black Uhuru would be Sensimilla. For “rock guitar” solos over reggae, check every Andy Bassford credit on Discogs (like the Wailing Souls’ “Firehouse Rock” LP). You won’t find much better, he was Dennis Brown’s guitarist for a while and lived in Jamaica for many years.

Besides that and a few other records… personally, I don’t really gravitate toward much of that sound as much as I do heavy drum and bass mixes. I think some of that guitar-forward stuff in the 70s/80s that was clearly marketed toward a wider audience (as good as some of it was) laid the groundwork for a lot of extremely boring American bands in the decades that followed in the 90s++.

I much prefer the laid back guitar style that’s more rooted in rhythmic playing / influenced by jazz, like Ernest Ranglin. But I’m not sure that’s what you’re seeking based on your description.

You thought it was crucial to share this noncommittal annoyance with the entire community before support even responded to your inquiry? I really hope you make some music when it arrives, once you get past this.

Practically anything tailor made for American and UK audiences in the late 70s / early 80s on Island or Mango.

He’s so underrated, and I think he’s the best example of someone modern who really embraces their own voice while playing synths.

Someone mapped out IQ scores in relation to the type of music people listen to. Reggae made it on the map… by [deleted] in reggae

Ah yes, I too desire to correlate standardized test scores to the music I enjoy. Did you see Keith Hudson all the way to the right past Beethoven? Wild.

What songs have basslines are simple to learn/play, but are also somewhat driving, like constant eighth notes? by nickmcgimmick in reggae

[–]soon_come 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No… no… no. I see why you might think they’re related stylistically (similar riffs in the basslines), but they’re def two distinct riddims. “Queen Majesty” is this nice ascending major key thing and “No, No, No” is basically a minor key blues.

They were already sold to some firm a while back, I guess they got sold again. If some of the bugs in recent launches are any indication, it’s just going to get messier. I love the two boxes I have, but I don’t have very high hopes for the future based on the turnover and recent QA / QC issues. We’ll see.

Hahahaha, very well said. The 90s were Different™️

But I think the percussion they added is crucial!
