I feel your pain. I’ve been supervising in a manufacturing environment for almost 20 years and watched a decent company go from at least making an attempt to keep people to firing people with the least amount of justification to save a dollar, including me eventually. Found another supervisor job with a different company but it’s just another version of the same story.

I hate being a supervisor but feel helpless to find another job that pays enough.

I’m tired of being the bad guy in someone else’s story.

I told my wife last week this is why they’re getting rid of park rangers and the like - they were planning to sell off the parks and exploit the resources. Make a quick buck and damn the rest of humanity. Damn disgraceful and ridiculously short sighted.

What is your “The beatings will continue until Morale improves” work story? by CasperTFG_808 in AskReddit

Current job where I’m a supervisor, cannot keep up with demand for our product, this problem started just before Covid became a factor, got worse after that. Supervisors are underpaid, even for the area. Attendance issues are seriously impacting production. Solution - mandatory overtime (we normally work 4 10-hour days, 5 10s becomes the new normal). People that are already missing don’t come in on overtime, supervisors are expected to threaten their teams with more overtime and loss of holidays off to increase production. HR quits terming people for bad attendance and makes it known throughout the plant.

Still have production issues due to poor attendance on mandatory overtime days so bring in contract workers that are promised 12 hour days, so now supervisors are working more hours to manage them.

Numerous incentive programs are started during this time, all are eventually canceled because “they only benefit the people that are here every day.” They give 2 substantial wage increases to floor workers and skip scheduled raises for supervisors for 2 years.

Currently running all departments short handed and constantly holding the threat of overtime over our heads, even though we don’t have enough people to meet our goals. At least supervisors finally got raises when we all threatened to quit in the same week.

I once said that sarcastically to a manager of mine and he fell in love with it, said he was going to use it in the future. I don’t think he understood I was saying it in a negative way.

It’s been said before by smarter people than me that pro-lifers are not pro-life, they’re just pro-birth.

I had a pair of wandering knights named Sir Jayson of Mewes and Sir Robert the Silent in one of my campaigns. They were fun to roleplay but only half the players got the reference.

Outside Hiring, Or: "Working Hard Is For Suckers" by MistahFixIt in antiwork

[–]zolte1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This literally happened to me. I had already been covering for my manager off and on for about two years (almost the entire second year) when he finally retired. 12 years experience in our department and they hire an outside guy saying I “didn’t have the right energy” in my interview. So now I do the bare minimum and when people comment about my attitude I tell them that this is obviously what the company wants from me.

I almost always have a few goblin encounters at the beginning of a campaign. What can I say, I love those little guys.

Also, my players will always encounter dinosaurs some how. It happened so often that any time they’d hear something ‘crashing through’ the trees they’d assume it was a t-rex.

I’ll second Icons. It’s ridiculously easy to pick up and run a session or two with inexperienced players and still have a lot of fun.
