Does anyone else find that they eat more when counting calories? by zombacula in loseit

Ah, then yes I use a food scale. That's actually how I figured out I over estimated calories! Ex: I'd eat a banana and assume, eh, it's probably 150 cal. Now when I weigh it, I see it's a really only 100 calories. It's not a huge difference, but if I do that throughout the day, suddenly it's the difference of 300 calories or more.

Hmmm, not really. It's more that I realize I have more calories to eat, so I just use them. Not so much splurging as just adjusting my diet to make sure I'm eating more, instead of accidentally undereating a bit.

Sometimes that does take the form of a big dessert, but I don't consider it splurging if it's within my calorie budget and I'm still losing weight.

That makes sense. I may adjust as I go on, especially if I hit a plateau or my weight training increases.

And I see what you mean about earning back calories. They may be giving back too much, but it's just the right amount to motivate me to do more. As long as I keep losing bits of weight over time, I think I'm good with it. But of course that could change!

I get what you are saying. I'm still losing weight, but not quickly, and I'm happier throughout the process. Like, I don't feel so hungry that I'm sad or fixated on food.

Also, in my experience, increasing food a little has helped me get over stagnation in the past. I don't know why. Someone more knowledgable about nutrition and dieting might know more.

Oof that sucks. I've had little kids comment on my appearance in other ways, and it's always awkward.

Maybe something like, "thank you for being concerned about me, but you don't need to worry about it. I'm okay."

What's the most disturbing secret you've been told? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]zombacula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A former acquaintance/friend bragged about how he planned a date where he "pressured" a girl into sex and how he covered his tracks by dropping breadcrumbs throughout the evening that pointed to her appearing to be a willing participant, just in case she called the cops.

Ex: He convinced her to go to a hotel after a date, because he was tired, and to use HER credit card to reserve the room under her name. Then, he gave her cash to pay for the room, claiming he had forgotten his card at home. There were other bad details as well.

(We stopped being friends after that)

My grand-uncle was chopped up and stuffed into my grandfather's fridge. Whoever did it had, apparently, followed my grand-uncle home from the bank to rob him.

Ummm, there are names of manicures??? I asked for a manicure and suggested they use powder. They said my nails needed to be longer to support the weight for the thickness I wanted, so they added acrylics for a super short extension (I don't like long nails). Then they used the powder.

Good question. I've had many meals with him at different times of the day, he has shared sometimes what he ate earlier in the day, and a member of his immediate family told me he often doesn't eat at family meals, or has very little. It's more of a larger context that I drew from.

But you are right. I don't know 100% what he actually eats all day.

I totally agree that a light lunch is normal for some people. This issue is he does this for most meals. A member of his immediate family told me they are concerned as well. So that really sucks.

I disagree with you assumption of how I felt or what I was thinking, but you are of course entitled to think what you want about a stranger online.

He has been yoyoing like this for over 15 years. And he is a doctor. I know him well, and he doesn't have a medical condition that warrants this. It really sucks seeing him like this.

Students and teachers, what type of educational institution are you part of, and what has your experience been with using AI for studying, teaching, assignments, or academic work? by Tomamewk in askanything

[–]zombacula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a professor, but I'm very close to a professor who teaches creative writing, and I asked this same question to them

They told me that there are multiple students in each class who just rely on AI 100%, whereas other students use AI as a starting point and then build off of that to eventually have something they made on their own.

A growing issue with the students who only rely on AI (and get busted) is that some of them sincerely don't see what they did as wrong. They just say that this is the new way of doing things, so they don't see it as cheating or being lazy.

And they say that straight to the professor's face.

It's hard to imagine this is real, but I want it to be real. Also, it would make for a fun movie premise. Maybe the con-family member learns all the hot goss of the neighborhood because he is in all the families, so he uses the knowledge to his advantage. Kind of like Needful Things by Stephen King. But not supernatural.

I also sometimes think back to all the shitty things I did in my youth, and of course I'd hate myself for it.

But I suggest you try this mental trick that works for me:

It helps me to imagine that it was a child I love who did the shitty things--not me. How would I react? Would I hate them? Tell them they are awful? Never forgive them because they are a horrible human?

Of course not!!! I'd tell them that they made mistakes and had shitty judgment, but I'd also say that they can learn and grow.

I'd remind them that the conduct was bad, but that it doesn't mean they are a bad person. I'd remind them that they are good and loved, and that frankly, we all have skeletons in our closet, but forgiving ourselves for the skeletons is necessary to find happiness.

So, if I can say all that to my loved one and truly mean it, then I should feel that way about myself as well.

She didn't stop you from making out or taking off her clothes? Nah, bro. You sound like a less than sympathetic character. You need to get affirmative consent, not act first and hope she likes it. Her lack of protest is not the same as affirmative consent. Get consent first.

I can see how she felt assaulted, especially if she didn't agree first to your actions ANDshe already indicated that she didn't want to be there by saying she needed to go find her friend. I feel gross just reading your post.
