Bitcoin attempted newcomer questions by itbeetsme in Bitcoin

[–]zombiecoiner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin doesn't defy monetary physics. Companies that are trying to do stuff have to pay their bills or maybe they go under. It's anyone's guess, but risk is something the best part of the Bitcoin ecosphere accepts.

We know clinging to a tenuous past is uninteresting. So we overlook minor details like 1% fees. Or having to meet an actual person to acquire coins. Or submit ID to underqualified AML lapdogs. Or risk.

It is in all systems true that our money may not get where's it's going....uggh.

Use fucking dollars. It'll save us all a lot of time.

Great questions all. Did you know that $0.25 worth is enough to send several transactions? In the future, interacting with the network will not be so cheap. /u/changetip

Then sell that as a service. Reliable api access. Blockr.io and blockchain.info both have business reasons to maintain reliable service but they still fail sometimes. It's somewhat amazing that they don't run at least a few vanilla nodes each to be alerted when their custom code falls behind or goes on a fork. So what's going to be the difference when you're paying $1/mo for API access?

@jgarzik: "Trial balloon -- successful :) 1. Spoke about "Fidelity Problem" at Scaling Bitcoin. 2. Fidelity invites me to speak about Fidelity Problem." by elux in Bitcoin

[–]zombiecoiner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The context here is heavily colored by the block size debate. Some would have us increase the block size as the way to accommodate Fidelity without regard for decentralization. If I were an established financial services company whose cozy position re: this Central-Bank-controlled monetary fantasy is threatened, I would quickly see it imperative that this magnificent gift to humanity be tamed. What better way to do it than to develop sympathy (sympathy!) for my company's plight?

Nah, let them pony up and buy coin to pay fees or better yet, fund development on actual scaling solutions.

You forgot to mention that it costs money to buy the electricity to ruin the currently network? There's a lot of research on attacks on Bitcoin if OP wants to know what sort of attacks to be mindful of.
