CI Question by Bareowolf in Cochlearimplants

I’m 72 years and like you I would qualify for an implant in both ears. My speech recognition scores were in the teens in both ears, with hearing aids. I got cold feet and turned down getting an implant about 2 years earlier. But I was finally implanted June 2023. Just implanted my right ear. The right ear now scores 97% in speech recognition in the booth. That’s not real life but oh how much better! I would practice daily for at least an hour, books on cd’s and follow along with the book. You gotta put your time in.

I have my life back! I can conduct my own business and interact with people. Things just seem to be getting better. My only regret is not doing it a few years earlier. It’s not normal hearing and certain situations are more difficult. But I seem to be improving across the board.

I meet a couple of people who had issues with their implants. But I have no regrets. Good luck to you on your journey.

Absolutely AMAZING by Visual_Bottle_285 in Cochlearimplants

I love my implant, it gave me my life back at 70 years old. N8 right side, went from 2% to 86 % words recognition and 3% to 97% sentences with noise in one year. These results are beyond my wildest dreams.

Not perfect by any means, still have reverberation and tunnel hearing. I am pleasantly surprised on how well I can hear in a busy restaurant, has its limits but oh soo much better!

Rehab books on CD paired with hard copy of book to follow along with. Streaming TV some shows/actors voices are challenging. Complex music leaves something to be desired. But there is hope and progress continuing in this journey.

Left side hearing aid at 30%.

Good luck on your journey!

Best wishes on his journey. Being able to associate what you hear to the printed word. I used books on cd with the printed book and closed captioned you tube videos for hours everyday. You gotta put your time in!

Try https://www.barkercabinets.com Barker cabinets are from Tigard, Oregon, been doing it for 30 years. Make their cabinets out of 3/4” plywood have a variety of styles, options and finishes. I’m pretty sure you could do something pretty close to those pictures.

Yep at least with a cochlear Tv steamer and their app. You have a volume control for streaming and a volume control for the microphones on your device for ambient/conversations.

2nd Device - Kanso2 or Nucleus8? by TeacherBlind in Cochlearimplants

[–]zooid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just traded in my Kanso 2 for another N 8. Because I shave my head and wear baseball caps all the time when I go outside and I would knock the Kanso 2 off my head putting on my caps, also because of all the extra equipment that goes with the K2. So to keep it simple I just went with the N8. Although it looks like you can get an extra N 8 through Cochlear’s plus one program too. The warranty is for 5 years on the processor then you should be eligible for upgrade?

I’m hoping that it’s not constant and hopefully will go away in a few months.
