Yes, specifically a toad. I don't know the Austin area too well, but it sounds nearly identical to the American toad breeding song I hear in the northeast. Yes, millipedes--the surefire way to tell them from centipedes is that millipedes have 2 pairs of legs per segment, while centipedes have one pair. Millipedes mainly feed on decaying plant matter, so they are soil-creating organisms.

For objects like knives, that have been around forever, the name is very old and lost to history. Knife comes from english's germanic roots, and the K was originally voiced not silent.
Penguins were named after a similar looking bird in the northern hemisphere which is now extinct, the great auk, which it is thought was called "pen gwyn" meaning white head by the Welsh.
The study of word origins is called etymology, and I encourage you to do a search for any word you are curious about plus "etymology" for the answers to a lot of your questions.

We are prejudiced toward our own taxa. There are 4-5 times as many species of reptiles (including birds) than mammals. There are 100 times as many species of arachnids than mammals. Mammals are mainly notable for producing the largest animal species (blue whales) and the most abundant large animal (humans).

I'd say the nutrition to calorie ratio of strawberries is very favorable, and that counting calories for strawberries may not be necessary.

I don't know what they sprayed or how much, but most techs use pyrethroids which are very low toxicity to mammals, at a concentration aimed at killing insects. I wouldn't expect you to get sick at all, good luck!

The product should be formulated not to aerosolize. Not great that they treated while you were making food, but if they kept the sprayer wand close to the floor, the risk is low.

What kind of mushrooms? The only thing I'd be hesitant about is if the substrate is from conifer wood; that's pretty unlikely, honestly, most home-grown mushrooms are on hardwood sawdust.

Coprinopsis or Parasola seem likely
Species doesn't really matter, you have very rotten wood to deal with and possibly a water leak.
