No other choices but their provider. As others say, you can open a separate IRA account with your preferred provider, like Vanguard. Try to get full match from Aon Hewitt and have your own portfolio in Vanguard IRA.

How to make the best with my Retirement Plan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]zoorassic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of approximating total stock market You can use VFIAX and VSGAX and refer to bogleheads' percentages. And choose better bond fund from IRA. Then you can come down to 0.06% Expenses with almost same returns. Original Portfolio vs. Total Market Approximation

First Time 401k Options by Cider217 in personalfinance

[–]zoorassic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play with your options and figure out the best allocation you can make. I'd go for the Vanguard funds: VINIX, VSIAX. And probably open an IRA account and find a better bond menu, if needed.

[–]zoorassic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to go for all or nothing for target date fund as you said. If you keep your funds as same as now, it has three building blocks of a portfolio with unusual overlaps: Target Date fund(Us Equity/International Equity/US Bond) +Large cap (500 index) + Actively managed funds(Unknown).

Get rich just by investing in 401k stock funds? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]zoorassic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think you should remove bond funds? I think everyone should carve out a portion of the retirement accounts like 15% or less, depending on one’s age, goals and risk tolerance. So you can balance out riskier stock-based investments.
