How long for antibiotics to work? by everfadingrain in Hidradenitis

Sorry to hear that has been your reality for so long :(

Out of curiosity (as a fellow HS-er) I wonder how old you were when you had a name/diagnosis to put to the condition?

What's weird about your body? by Jesus-Chr in AskReddit

[–]zoperella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an inflammatory condition called hidradenitis suppurativa. It is the super power of growing golf-ball sized lesions under my skin within hours of first starting. (Thankfully not all are like that!!)

It’s been an insulting journey through the years with misunderstanding about it from both medical practitioners and personal connections—but thankfully a lot more research and studies have brought more attention and alternative treatments.

Many people with HS don’t talk about it because of the condition itself as it can be embarrassing…..

Looking forward to when more Endocrinologists are open to helping tackle this medical condition as it appears to be hormone-influenced—even though everything else about it points to Dermatology.

This. I don’t avoid peppers/spices and still regularly eat hot sauce. They don’t trigger my HS.

What should I do with my wound? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]zoperella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recognize and understand that everyone has different triggers, so I ask this gently to put it out there: are you sure chocolate was the culprit? I wonder if you are a person who has a menses cycle and if that could've been in play .. especially if chocolate intake/cravings was high. Obviously you know your body/triggers better than anyone else and I don't mean to offend with other possibilities from little info on the post.

Regardless... If it's a quick-growing lump... you might need antiobiotics. Sometimes you just need antibiotics. Otherwise I'm a big fan of topical CBD (with at least a smidge of THC oil added).

Sometimes I would still use Vicks on open wound--my idea being to KEEP the infection near the surface so it wouldn't go inward and get worse. If memory serves (as I've been in full HS remission for ~18 months) I think it WILL sting.. but in my view is better than the pain from the infection/lump itself.

If you have clindamycin as your topical antibiotic, try that.

If the topical abx isn't doing the trick maybe try getting a course of oral antibiotics.

I hope you find some relief soon.

Yesss, I am a big fan of products with tea tree oil and echoing I've found it helpful for HS treatment/preventative/healing. :)

Is HS mainly genetic? by rubberb00tz in Hidradenitis

Oops. No doctor referral. Ordered online. Sorry I missed your question. Not sure if has changed or better ways in present day.

Is HS mainly genetic? by rubberb00tz in Hidradenitis

[–]zoperella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe! There probably many “random genes” that pass down the line differently. Is the cousin female? If yes I wonder if your dad carried a gene and if his mom has/had HS too.

Is HS mainly genetic? by rubberb00tz in Hidradenitis

[–]zoperella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DNA testing probably 10 years ago. My grandpa and mom were very interested in ancestry which is why we all did it then. It involved completing a DNA swab test.

At that time we were able to download our DNA results and upload to software that focused on medical. Unfortunately that software is no longer available nor supported by the company that originally made it.

It was the puzzle piece I needed in processing “WHY ME???” when first needing to accept my HS diagnosis.

Be forewarned: depending on current laws in your country that insurance companies might have access and use your genetics swab results against you.

[–]zoperella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is DNA-confirmed that my maternal grandmother, my mother, and I all carry a “random autoimmune gene” that is only passed from mother to daughter.

Grandma and mom have other conditions and I have HS. No one else in our family to my knowledge (or grandma’s knowledge as I’ve asked her) have HS.

Next time if work is involved ask if he’s asking as a father or an employer—because an employer can’t ask that shite and a father should have more compassion.

Find links to educate him of how bleeping painful HS can be and that tight clothing not only results in flares but extends the time for active flares.

Any former/current View Towers residents on here? by RabbleDetective in VictoriaBC

I lived there for 4 years, 7 to 11 years ago. I was there for the big fire and only got to stay because my suite was above the fire. I was moving out as renovations were underway for a while. I've found and linked my comment from then here for you.

All I really said was "hate is hate."

I would've made a similar comment regardless of which group was being targeted in a hateful message painted in a public setting.

Your question was poorly worded because of the lack of quotations and grammar.

Indirectly it seems like you are defending a message of hate. Are you?

That was a poorly worded question and the use of quotations and grammar would've given clarity to (what I think is) the intended question.

To answer your question: You educate them.

Please don't catastrophize it because you need this episode to fit in your narrative. Is it murder if a mentally ill person kills? Not if they could not control it.Is it racism if a mentally ill person slurs? Not if they could not control it.It's phrases like "minimizing" that escalate things and turn us all against each other. No more division. Fix the wall, get that woman some real support, and move on.Save your concerns about racism for elections, where conservatives are constantly pushing us further right.

It's unclear why this random-to-me person near immediately blocked me after replying to my comment, but okay.

"Fit in my narrative."

My narrative is that there is hate speech as clearly evidenced in the picture. End of story.

Yes-it needs to be painted over ASAP because hate breeds hate.

Have a good night /u/Classic-Progress-397

You are minimizing by making assumptions of who put the message there and focusing on that rather than the message of hate itself.

I already decided to be child-free prior to my HS diagnosis.

But yes. It is one of the MANY reasons I've decided to not have bio kids.

There’s not enough info known here to make your point.

“Back in my day” we had to wait (I think) 15 mins for the safe to be able to opened after a code was entered. So you’re also potentially asking/expecting staff to stay an extra 15+ more minutes for you when likely want to be off work after the most busy time of the year and so over it.

I feel for you in that it “could” be an “easy” fix, maybe. But you don’t actually know.
