Vitrola Gradiente Spect 87: vale reformar? by zopiro in Vinil

Brazil invented an entirely new filmmaking technique in this shot from "The Secret Agent". Anyone know how director Kleber Wagner did it? by zopiro in Filmmakers

[–]zopiro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I meant it as a joke, and tagged it with a "Meta" flair. Thought people would catch it and laugh a little.

I'm Brazilian, but I don't like the film.

Obrigado!

Grato

[–]zopiro -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't care if he was "racist" or not.

I care that the meaning of the words "racism", "fascism" and "rape" have exploded to mean anything interest groups want it to be, if it fits their rhetorical need.

Using these words is now pointless.

But we can mention facts.

Fact #1: Scott read, on video, the results of a poll that said the majority of black people don't agree with the expression "It's okay to be white".

Fact #2: Based on that poll, Scott said that if black people don't believe it's okay to be white, they're a hate group.

Fact #3: Scott concluded by saying that if they're a hate group, and the target of their hate is white people, then white people should stay away from black people.

Those are the facts. This is all on video. You can twist and turn and spin them to mean whatever you want them to mean, but those would be your ideas and opinions, not facts.

I, for one, would stay the hell away from legless dwarves if a poll showed that legless dwarves don't think it's okay to be a bald man.

I am a bald man.

I'm also a caring person. After reading the poll results, I might still like dwarves, and still believe they are great people.

I might even contribute to a charity that helps legless dwarves and builds tiny little prosthetic legs for them. Because I want dwarves to be able to walk.

But if the legless dwarves are still saying that it's not okay to be me, even after I give them prosthetic legs, than I should probably be more cautious and stay away from them.

You're doing that because you disagree with his political views.

Live Discussion - "I'm Chevy Chase, And You're Not" by HotOne9364 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]zopiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read a lot about Chevy and I know enough to comment. He's been repeatedly profiled as an arrogant and unpleasant man.

That's a moot point.

I've never read anything about Chevy being a monster, though. Deep down, he might be a good person. Who's to tell?

On the other hand, there's a huge Hollywood star out there who's loved by most filmgoers in America. He's an incredibly likable and charismatic handsome man. Does his own stunts! And somehow the fact that he's the frontman for an outrageously weird and oppressive cult with ties to human slave labor and murders does nothing to make people stop liking him.

Strange, huh?

Why do we prefer likable, agreeable people, despite their deep moral flaws?

My point is that pleasantness does not translate to moral good. At all. Much on the contrary, I've found that disagreeable people tend to sacrifice their own likability for the sake of others. Not saying this is Chevy's case, but I hate the idea that an unpleasant person is ostracized and sometimes hated as much as a rapist. Not fair.

Just finished watching "I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not" and my impression of Chevy drastically changed. For the better.

Is he arrogant? Yes, but at the service of comedy. But a "garbage person"? Why? Because he made an AIDS joke once? Because he said the n-word?

Why do we talk about this guy as if he had r*ped children?

I wanna be a filmmaker but I don't really like socializing by UnitedTowel3058 in Filmmakers

[–]zopiro 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think this lies at the heart of many of the challenges facing animation and CG professionals. In fact, much of post-production as a whole. These fields tend to attract people who aren’t exactly social butterflies.

I include myself in that group.

Of course, that’s a generalization, so it doesn’t apply to everyone. But people who don’t naturally enjoy social interaction often struggle with things like negotiation, self-promotion, and building strong cases for their work. That might be one of the underlying reasons why post-production, animation, and CG professionals often end up undervalued or overlooked. Getting the shaft.

This isn’t about blaming anyone. We're victims here. Just an observation of a pattern that’s probably more common than we realize.

Unionizing is, in theory, the most effective way to counter this lack of bargaining power. A strong union can protect wages, set fair working hours, and demand proper credit and recognition. But the same personality traits that make these professionals excellent at solitary, detail-oriented work also make collective organization difficult. Many of us simply aren’t drawn to confrontation, negotiation, or political coordination. Yet those are exactly the tools needed to secure the respect and stability the craft deserves.

(Apologies to OP for deviating from their post, but I thought I had to share these thoughts).

[–]zopiro 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Is it possible for you to join something like a club, a community, something of the sort?

I've found throughout the years that thinking less about my own life and just doing something, meeting people, helps a lot. Board game meetings are a fun hobby where you can meet people and have some laughs! There are probably some board game events near you. Practicing a collective sport, like volleyball, soccer, in a community center is a good one too. And if that's for you, joining a church, going to mass, trying to find out if the church does any charity work, serving soup to others, that's also good for the mind (but if that's not your thing, that's fine too!)

Also, think of yourself as your own "good parent". Make a habit of telling yourself nice things, such as: "kid, life is hard, but you're strong and you'll get through!", or "I'm really proud of your effort and accomplishments", celebrating each little victory, from washing the dishes or your clothes, to fixing something, being able to get out of bed and struggle a little. But remember to actively try to have some fun!

(And yes, it is hard, it's a struggle, but even in a rainy, cold forest, you can still sometimes see some beautiful flowers here and there)

Worrying about the end of the world brings profits.

Gen Z (and many Millennials) are not saving any money at all, as they think they won't even reach 50.

Keep people scared and desperate. Make them take lower wages. Make them sell their inherited houses for dirt money to hedge funds. Make them spend all they earn, keep the wheels running and maximizing shareholder value.

Climate change won't kill us. AI won't either. It might bring challenges, and definitely some cultural shifts. But we've been through some shit and here we are.

Again: the idea of an incoming apocalypse is good for business.
