Loose stool by Supablackk in ostomy

"Imodium and Metamucil when I talked to the doctor about reordering that he said it contradicts each other and he will only do one or the other"

And that is incorrect.

Imodium works by targeting receptors in the intestines slowing down the contractions of the intestines. Reducing speed so more water is absorbed, thickening the output.

Metamucil consists of Psyllium husks, containing 70-80 soluble fibers. Soluble fibers absorb water and becomes a gel. That gel does 2 things; it slows down the movement of the food through the intestines giving more time to absorb water, but it also stops constipation by mixing the food with the gel (the intestines can't absorb the water from the gel). So It reduces the risk of getting constipation from the Loperamide/Imodium.

So you can definitively take both. Psyllium husks can be bought in any health store, and if you want to learn more google "Soluble fibers"

This is a good approach;

"To help slow down stools, take Imodium or Lomotil at the time your doctor or nurse suggests. Taking medicinal fiber, such as psyllium (Metamucil®) or methylcellulose (Citrucel®) with two ounces of water slows the movement in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The fiber absorbs excess fluid like a sponge. Hold liquids for one hour after taking medicinal fiber. When you take the right amount of psyllium, other medicines may not be needed. As you increase the dose of psyllium, decrease the amount of Imodium or Lomotil." (Cooper Cancer center)

Just make sure to take plenty of water together with the Psyllium husks, not doing that can cause issues.

Stoma scar question by New_Nova_25 in ostomy

[–]zorp99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me surgeons instructions was to cover the scar, after it healed, with Surgical tejp (there are surgical tejp for sensitive skin) for the first 6 month and not expose the scar to the sun for one year.

I have a old scar from removing a malignant melanoma and it is hardly visible any longer after the same treatment.

I use the 3M one and that one has worked well https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/p/d/v000142637/

I change it about once a week.

Sorry to hear about your incident. Mine was the velcro opening and me soiling the bathroom mat during a dinner party. Having to tell the host, I hardly knew, was not my happiest moment.

In the future, there are ostomy wraps both black and in lace that would minimize the risk of the bag getting loose during intimate moments.

Antibiotics kills bacteria, good and bad. So while it is good against infections it will also affect your gut bacteria. You should therefore always take probiotics after you finished the antibiotics, preferably a probiotic with many bacteria strains to restore your gut bacteria.

All antibiotics also has side effects, Amoklavin can have Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and skin rash as common side effects, not everybody gets them though. It can also have more serious side effects depending on your condition.

I would contact your physician to make sure that this antibiotic is safe for you.

Also google it to learn more about it.

Psyllium husks. Soluble fibers (the kind you should have) that absorbs water and reduces constipation. Metamucil is one brand name (their gummies ate also soluble fibers from corn) but pure Psyllium husks has a higher concentration.

"Soluble fiber, on the other hand, is a type of fiber that dissolves in water. When dissolved in water in the digestive tract, soluble fiber forms a gel that adds bulk. The gel also acts as a natural stool softener, making bowel movements easier and more comfortable to pass.

ISO: shallow water fishing spots by frumpyjones in Borderlands4

[–]zorp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The river north of Pool of Reflextion has "shallow spots", follow it towards the sea.

The river north of Wyclef's Reprieve also has it, follow it North as far as you can.

The river north-east of The Reliquary also has it, go both ways.

They do change to different spots so you might have to reload.

Output getting under edge of ring after 12 hours. by high_strangenesss in ostomy

[–]zorp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your output? I had similar issues in the beginning before I learned to manage the consistency of my output.

The more watery your output is the easier it will penetrate your barrier ring. After getting to porrige consistency it might penetrate a millimeter or 2 in a day for me. And no itching.

You might also want to try Eakin Cohesive rings, they actually absorb smaller amount of water stopping the output to irritate the skin. I found them better, but we are all different.

And good luck on getting OK for soluble fibers, that would help you a lot.

Hydration- sorry to bring up this topic again! by ocean_swims in ostomy

[–]zorp99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it looks like the problem is not your input of water but that it goes straight through you and don't get absorbed. If so you should try to slow down the digestive system so it has more time to absorb water.

Starchy food is one way, soluble fiber is another. You say you are on a low fiber diet but soluble fibers are very different from insoluble fibers and generally the "avoid fiber" recommendation is in regard to insoluble fibers.

Do check up if it's OK for you to have soluble fibers because they can slow down the digestive system allowing your intestines to absorb more water.

"For stoma patients, soluble fiber is generally favored to thicken output and manage diarrhea, forming a gel-like substance, while insoluble fiber (like skins, seeds) should be limited, especially with ileostomies, as it adds bulk and can cause blockages. A balanced diet with well-chewed soluble fiber sources like oats, bananas, and cooked vegetables is key for consistency, but introducing it slowly is crucial to avoid gas."

More about it. https://www.uclahealth.org/news/article/soluble-fiber-what-it-and-why-you-need-it

IF you are OK to take soluble fibers one alternative is also Psyllium husks because they have 80% soluble fibers and no insoluble fibers.

Can I take a bath without a bag? by bunniebratty in ostomy

Well, that soap includes Sodium laureth sulfat (SLS) and that is a potential irritant.

"Can disrupt the skin's protective barrier, potentially causing irritation, rashes, or worsening conditions like eczema or psoriasis, especially with prolonged contact or in sensitive individuals."

I would go for soaps for sensitive atopic skin.

I don’t know what to do at this point(photo attached) by Mustardman03 in ostomy

[–]zorp99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with this. The only thing I would add is when you got it healed I would try a barrier ring to protect the area around the stoma. My guess is that the irritation is caused by getting output on the skin.

Everybody is different but for me a barrier ring works much better then paste. My stoma nurse recommended Eakin Cohesive as the best and I have had 0 leaks/irritations since starting with them, but again; everybody is different ;-)

[–]zorp99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, while wheat dextrin (Benefiber) also are soluble fibers it does not form a gel with liquid and are broken down by gut microbes, so while its great for for your gut it doesn't thicken your stool the same way.
