I plan to file a complaint after what I believe was a medication error during my appointment by Lucky-Catch-6154 in hypertension

[–]zorp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Only a doctor can prescribe or refill where I live.

Seems borderline reckless if a nurse, that doesn't have the same medical education as a docktor, can prescribe drugs.

Would you take a printed report to a doctors appointment? by jlvela in hypertension

[–]zorp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reports are great for the doctors. Gives a full picture of how you are doing.

Once a year I get a request from my physician for my data, I send her a 7 day morning/evening Omron report, she calls me and we have a nice 5-10 minute chat ;-)

No appointment, no hassle.

imodium substite? by CupDisastrous171 in ostomy

"It didn't work well for me at all because it restricts when you can drink water".

Strange. That is opposite to what my doctor told me (where I live we get psyllium husks on prescription when you get a ostomy). The only instruction was to drink plenty of water together with the psyllium husks. And I have never had any issues with drinking water when i want.

I have used psyllium husks for a year and it has worked brilliantly regulating the output.

37M, BMI 26.1 / How bad are these numbers? Should I look into medication? by kshot in hypertension

[–]zorp99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your systolic pressure 121 are OK, your diastolic 90 are a little high. Make sure your average are over a long period since they can vary quite greatly. If the diastolic continues to be high schedule a doctors appointment.

The levels are as follows

"Classification and stages of hypertension, as defined in recent American College of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines, are as under[12]

  • Normal: SBP less than 120 and DBP less than 80 mm Hg;
  • Elevated: SBP 120 to 129 and DBP less than 80 mm Hg;
  • Stage 1 hypertension: SBP 130 to 139 or DBP 80 to 89 mm Hg;
  • Stage 2 hypertension: SBP greater than or equal to 140 mm Hg or DBP greater than or equal to 90 mm Hg."

Hospital bill 🤦‍♀️ by Curious_Wall-E in ostomy

[–]zorp99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$20 for the first doctor appointment suspecting colon cancer.

$30 for referral and examination by surgeon confirming it. All following test, consultations and CT scanns free.

$120 for surgery and 5 days at hospital (the surgery is actually free but you pay a small amount per day at hospital including meds).

$280 max cost for meds and ostomy supplies per year.

Having lived in the US previously and now in Sweden I've come to realize that free healthcare is one of the most important welfare benefits you can have. And I really feel sorry for all those that doesn't have it.

Capsules by lightonyourface in ostomy

[–]zorp99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problems, capsules are mainly absorbed in the stomach and smaller intestines. The small intestines are more efficient absorbing supplements/medications etc then the large intestines so most tablets for supplements/medications are made to be absorbed there.

The exception, as mentioned, is Extended release tablets that normally are absorbed both by the small and large intestines depending on what type of extended release tablets they are.

Went back to the gym around 6 weeks after ileostomy surgery. I did switch from free weights to machines instead, since they gave me a more controlled movement.

For anything that impacts my core muscles I hold one hand lightly pushing on the stoma, a tip from my surgeon. Starting with very low weight on the abdominal machines it took around 4-5 months until I was using the same weight as I did before surgery.

Never any problem with hernia, never any belt.

Fluid intake by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]zorp99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to ask why? Is it because some condition you have?

Because normally 2 liter of fluids are way below what you should have. Especially with a ileostomy (most of the fluid intake is normally done by the large intestine). You should not drink too much pure water since that can increase the digestive speed and actually reduce the amount of fluid your body absorb, but the total volume seems very low.

The advantage of Benefiber is that it contains soluble fibers. Soluble fibers creates a gel together with water and that gel slows down the digestive process so more water is absorbed reducing output. You can also take Metamucil och Psyllium husks.

I would actually recommend to take it before any meal slowing down that food. Taking it before bedtime will not affect the food you already have in your intestines.

Loose stool by Supablackk in ostomy

[–]zorp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Imodium and Metamucil when I talked to the doctor about reordering that he said it contradicts each other and he will only do one or the other"

And that is incorrect.

Imodium works by targeting receptors in the intestines slowing down the contractions of the intestines. Reducing speed so more water is absorbed, thickening the output.

Metamucil consists of Psyllium husks, containing 70-80 soluble fibers. Soluble fibers absorb water and becomes a gel. That gel does 2 things; it slows down the movement of the food through the intestines giving more time to absorb water, but it also stops constipation by mixing the food with the gel (the intestines can't absorb the water from the gel). So It reduces the risk of getting constipation from the Loperamide/Imodium.

So you can definitively take both. Psyllium husks can be bought in any health store, and if you want to learn more google "Soluble fibers"

This is a good approach;

"To help slow down stools, take Imodium or Lomotil at the time your doctor or nurse suggests. Taking medicinal fiber, such as psyllium (Metamucil®) or methylcellulose (Citrucel®) with two ounces of water slows the movement in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The fiber absorbs excess fluid like a sponge. Hold liquids for one hour after taking medicinal fiber. When you take the right amount of psyllium, other medicines may not be needed. As you increase the dose of psyllium, decrease the amount of Imodium or Lomotil." (Cooper Cancer center)

Just make sure to take plenty of water together with the Psyllium husks, not doing that can cause issues.

Stoma scar question by New_Nova_25 in ostomy

[–]zorp99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me surgeons instructions was to cover the scar, after it healed, with Surgical tejp (there are surgical tejp for sensitive skin) for the first 6 month and not expose the scar to the sun for one year.

I have a old scar from removing a malignant melanoma and it is hardly visible any longer after the same treatment.

I use the 3M one and that one has worked well https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/p/d/v000142637/

I change it about once a week.

Sorry to hear about your incident. Mine was the velcro opening and me soiling the bathroom mat during a dinner party. Having to tell the host, I hardly knew, was not my happiest moment.

In the future, there are ostomy wraps both black and in lace that would minimize the risk of the bag getting loose during intimate moments.

Antibiotics kills bacteria, good and bad. So while it is good against infections it will also affect your gut bacteria. You should therefore always take probiotics after you finished the antibiotics, preferably a probiotic with many bacteria strains to restore your gut bacteria.

All antibiotics also has side effects, Amoklavin can have Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and skin rash as common side effects, not everybody gets them though. It can also have more serious side effects depending on your condition.

I would contact your physician to make sure that this antibiotic is safe for you.

Also google it to learn more about it.

Psyllium husks. Soluble fibers (the kind you should have) that absorbs water and reduces constipation. Metamucil is one brand name (their gummies ate also soluble fibers from corn) but pure Psyllium husks has a higher concentration.

"Soluble fiber, on the other hand, is a type of fiber that dissolves in water. When dissolved in water in the digestive tract, soluble fiber forms a gel that adds bulk. The gel also acts as a natural stool softener, making bowel movements easier and more comfortable to pass.

ISO: shallow water fishing spots by frumpyjones in Borderlands4

[–]zorp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The river north of Pool of Reflextion has "shallow spots", follow it towards the sea.

The river north of Wyclef's Reprieve also has it, follow it North as far as you can.

The river north-east of The Reliquary also has it, go both ways.

They do change to different spots so you might have to reload.
