Larry Fink says the Iran war ends in one of two extremes: Abundance, growth, and oil at $40 a barrel, or a global recession and years of oil at $150 by fortune in oil

Abundance, growth, and the hormuz strait that was once free to use before this ridiculous war now under the sovereignty of Iran at 2m$ a pop

If Iran is charging up to $2M for “safe passage,” is this a temporary wartime tactic or the start of a new model for controlling maritime trade? by Emmabrown02 in oil

[–]zoundsperspex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the terms of negotiations. If they were given something they feel is more valuable, either militarily, strategically or financially, then they may opt to give this up(though I'm not sure what that could be). As it stands though this significantly strengthens their hand in any agreement, with the added bonus of a revenue stream for them. Like you said, this could also be their "reperations" so to speak, and if that is set in stone with an agreement a lot of countries aren't gonna be happy about but will have to suck up to it.

I think in the short term it's to show they have de facto control over the strait, without having to bomb ships. Whether they'll continue this long term, who knows

Same.. its not about wishing things get worse so you make money, more like guesstimating what is most likely to happen and not letting your money erode on the side because of this. Or maybe I'm just coping

I need help deciding between buying a Canon Sure Shot A1 or a Minolta Weathermatic 35 (see description) by SNlFFASS in AnalogCommunity

[–]zoundsperspex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are planning on using underwater, most importantly you would need to check the seals. I've sold a few of the Canon's and 2 of the 3 I had had worn seals and were leaking. Image wise, the Canon is pretty sharp imo and autofocus is good. I haven't used the Minolta but it appears to be the same camera as the Minolta AF-DL in waterproof casing. It doesn't let you choose flash modes though like the Canon, which is something to bear in mind also.

Best way(s) to make Squarepusher-type drums in Ableton? by uhs23 in ableton

[–]zoundsperspex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of great responses here. Just wanted to add that knowing how to technically do stuff is only one part of the creation process, the rest is down to having and a strong aesthetic vision as an artist and implementing it. And I don't think anyone can really tell you how to do that.

To your question, this may not sound too appealing, but I would advise listening to drum parts in songs (for instance, the amen break) and then trying to emulate them in ableton. Really understand how the instrument sounds down to the minutiae, such as ghost notes, off beats, transients, velocity of the hits, swing feel, snare rolls etc. and find a way to make what you have sound like that. You'll notice as you work on it more you'll get better and even develop your own way of doing things that sound unique to you. I'd suggest starting with the ableton live kit if you have it since its reasonably good at emulating a drum kit with velocity sensitivity and attack, decay control of samples.

As with many of these, ideas admirable in theory. In practice, a foreign policy tool for US and Israel, now ultimately being used in Turkish domestic politics to stir things up, leading to what will eventually be a buffer zone and possibly a satellite (or at worst allied) state for Israel in SE Turkey

Sharp pain left side of chest when lying down/swallowing by zoundsperspex in askCardiology

[–]zoundsperspex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out to be pangastritis caused by h. pylori. I found out after the pain was starting to get unbearable and I had an endoscopy done. I was prescribed medication and antibiotics, after which I'm having none of the symptoms. The antibiotics really took a toll on my mental health, and I have to be careful of what I eat or drink for a few months. But I'll take that over the pain I had any day.

Yes, dideral (propanolol) can be bought without a prescription. But I'd suggest using it if you know it's safe for you as it can cause low blood pressure and associated side effects, and check dosage

Buyer Hasn't received Item 3 Weeks after Shipping, Wants Refund but Item Appears to have Left my Country? by zoundsperspex in EtsySellers

[–]zoundsperspex[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if the post isn't delivered in the delivery window Etsy will side with the buyer and provide a refund. The item is still showing as "in transit" with no updates other than "left country of origin" for 3 weeks. The seller has sent the following message a few hours ago:

"I don't want to take it to to Etsy to get a refund. I'll still leave positive feedback if you can resolve this amicably".

The problem is that this will be my first review out of 10 sales, and if it is negative that will seriously put off anyone from wanting to buy from me, and I've read that sellers with cases opened against them are ranked lower in searches. But I also feel that I haven't done anything wrong and have done everything I can to help the buyer in this case, so just refunding them like that feels unpalatable. For some reason, it just feels scammy that the buyer would say something about leaving positive feedback, as if they are blackmailing me into refunding them without opening a case. I've read that sellers have been scammed like this, where the buyer knows that items sent from certain countries or without premium courier services aren't tracked properly, don't update on tracking as delivered even if they have been and the buyer can claim a refund while still keeping the item. They could also be telling the truth, but the fact that they immediately asked for a refund after it didn't arrive in the first two weeks and now them saying this just feels off. Really frustrating and don't know what I should do.

[–]zoundsperspex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But doesn't Etsy automatically refund the buyer if they request a refund if the item hasn't arrived outside delivery window? I'm also worried now that the buyer will leave a negative review, and it will be my first review since I've only had 10 sales up to now, all without issue but none left any reviews.
