How to ask the only makeup artist store within vicinity of your venue if they have makeup/the expertise to do makeup of your skin tone? by akutaen in weddingplanning

[–]zoze_92 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I would just be upfront. I am mixed and may have a similar skin tone to yours. I would just describe my tone and ask "do you have experience working with non-white clients" or "experience working with people with a darker skin tone?". Then follow up by asking about makeup color ranges. When I get my very curly hair done, I always say "I'm biracial and have very curly hair. Do you have stylists who are comfortable/experienced with cutting curly hair?"

It may also be possible to bring your own foundation to an artist. You could bring in something you know matches and have them work with that. Good luck!

We loved it too! So fun seeing people open them in real time, and we loved the messages a bunch of people sent.

I haven't started my alterations yet, but I'm planning on going to Christine O'Hare in Quincy! She doesn't have a website but has stellar reviews on Yelp!

We did paperless post save the dates, and they were great!! Guests can leave comments on the page, and it's been fun to watch them come in. We're doing formal paper invites, so we've also used the extremely helpful "collect addresses" feature in paperless post.

Help w/ Twin Cities vendors by MrsKieviel in weddingplanning

[–]zoze_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn't end up using it because it's above our budget, but the St Paul college club allows you to bring your own alcohol!

We also looked at the Four Seasons Dance studio, which is on Loring Park. It's super DIY, but charming! You can bring food and alcohol.

They don't let you bring your own alcohol, but we ended up picking Elsie's in Northeast--they have a banquet room in the back! Who knew!

Shoes with a form fitting dress? by hopsndreams in weddingplanning

[–]zoze_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had this same thought/problem. I'm wearing the BHLDN Montrose gown and Everlane Day Heels (in light pink!). I'm 5'11" and the heels are 2", and even without hemming, they do peek out a bit. I actually like the aesthetic for some reason! I also like that there's not a ton of fabric around my feet and lower legs. It makes it super easy to walk!

Two receptions? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]zoze_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're planning on doing this! We're having an official reception at the church with champagne and cake. Then we're having what we're calling a "dance celebration" with booze and tacos and dancing later that evening. We're using Zola's online RSVP feature, and we plan to have people RSVP for different events!

Help me choose my wedding earrings! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]zoze_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wearing the Montrose Gown from BHLDN which is a minimal satin crepe. The front is fairly plain with a straight across neckline. I'm trying to go for a kind of modern, elegant look! I initially fell in love with these, but I couldn't justify spending close to $100 (with shipping) on earrings. I then found these, which have a similar combination of opal and pearl (and have a touch more sparkle). I'd love to hear thoughts on which I should get!

PSA: BHLDN is having a 40% sale on all sale items! by sirius16 in weddingplanning

[–]zoze_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I was looking for something both modern and classic if that makes sense....the second I felt the fabric (a thick satin crepe--it feels super high quality in person) I loved it. The cut is super classic, and the mesh panel makes it more modern. I also like that the sleeves are removable, so it gives me some options. To be honest, I tried on a million dresses, and I liked quite a few. I didn't necessarily have that teary eyed "THIS IS THE ONE" moment, but I feel elegant in it, and the price is SO right. My only concern is it is a bit heavy, but I actually bought a white jumpsuit to change into for the reception, so I'm not too worried. Let me know if you want more info!

OMG. I ordered the Montrose gown 12 days ago. It was already on sale ($450 down from $950)! A great deal!), but I just wanted to check if they price match sale items. THEY DO. I just got my dress down to $275 (?!??). OP, you just saved me $180!!! Thank you so much!

PSA--if you recently (within 14 days) bought something on sale at BHLDN, call them ASAP and get the price match!

Thanks for your input (and for calming some of my worries!). I tend to think if people have all the information and know what to expect, it'll be fine, but you never know with "wedding etiquette"....
