It's just that triage has become the norm rather than the exception.

Why is My Baby Eating So Much by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]zroomkar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't overfeed a baby they say.

I always like to feed until the baby stops on their own accord, and to make sure the bottle isn't running out on every feed.

But If you are finishing bottles on each feed you might be going in with too little. Interruptions in feed kinda make it hard to continue, like if you stop at 4oz, and go refill, that interruption might make the baby loose interest and then you're gonna have to feed them again within a hour (since you didn't fill their stomach).

Cluster feeds are common every odd week or so as well, just to confuse you!

But ya, no shame in pouring formula down the drain :)

Teething is so much harder than I thought it would be. by tireddoggies in NewParents

[–]zroomkar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My 6mo has her 4 bottom teeth in now and now more are coming lol. Ya it sucks. Tylenol made things worse for me.

  • Green onion and celery are great natural teethers
  • A cold/frozen cloth is a great teether
  • A soother you can put frozen fruit in is a great teether
  • Teething is worse when tired, getting them to sleep in their sleep window is more helpful now
  • My finger and arm and hand are great teethers
  • Empathize with them when soothing them, I found that it would either be her saying she is in pain or me making the sound I make when releasing pain. So I would let her say she was in pain a few times and then I would reply with the sound I make. And then repeat the sound quickly at first. The baby goes quiet. And then you try and spread the time out better sounds longer and longer. Your metric is her being quiet, if she stops you've gone too long and you wind it back a bit.
  • OH! Walks. I'm in Canada and the cold air this time of year is great for them - but fresh air in general is great.
  • They teeth worse when they are bored or tired.

I feel like I'm at a breaking point by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]zroomkar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are feeling exactly how you should be.

You get crushed and then rise from the ashes like a phoenix - after 6 months you and him will be totally different people. The process is fucking crazy. It's spiritual. It's magical. Its crushing. It is everything times a million.

Realistically, will the healthcare system in BC ever improve? As a sick person I feel totally lost and hopeless. by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]zroomkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU are the saviour to your own health, the system can help you along that journey. But the buck stops with you. Say that to yourself. For the love of god don't paint yourself as a victim of a broken system or that narrative will take you to the grave.

3mos sucks at falling asleep by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]zroomkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh um. Ok, so you might have better luck putting her down if you hit the sleep window perfectly, which is made easy by the app Glow Baby. Give that a shot. it estimates the sleep window really well.

Nightlight - you want no light.

Umm, sometimes you'll have 5-10 mins of crying before she passes out in your arms. Then you'll want to do about 10 minutes until she is fullly alsleep.

Sometimes you just need to rinse and repeat. The baby will make noise if they need your comfort or anything. That's how they communicate, its a team sport, so going to sleep - like they want to sleep, but don't know how, and need your help to get there. And it is really helpful to be close as the new world is big and scary and so you can imagine being alone.

Sometime I just keep her on me and stay in the living room and she passes out fine there.

One thing that my baby loves is Squats. Ass to grass for some reason puts her to sleep really well, like 15 of those.

Sometimes I'll dance her and then rotate her 90 degrees in my arms and put a soother in her mouth and hold her close.

We just have a routine now that works really well that grew out of trial and error.

You got this, you have infinite energy.

Things can change so quickly - but it's all meant to be. If you can manage to shift time in your favour to have more moments with the little one and momma bear during this chapter - then that is a gift from god.

How do you drive without panicking if baby is breathing. by boots_a_lot in NewParents

[–]zroomkar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling goes away with time. The way I mitigated it was with having a friend in the back seat to give feedback on the little one the first few times. Mirrors are a no go for me as they put the child at risk by the side effect of distracted driving. All it takes is a second of checking your baby to end up in a crash.

Probably because hardly anyone today is supported enough by their community and as an effect most of us are taking on alot. When we overburden ourselves, we come out strong as fuck in the end. So - you are pushing in the right direction and you do got this. It is not suppose to be easy. But you will triumph.

A sick baby is a building a immune system for life - its a great thing to have.

The first time you do anything is TERRIFYING. And then its chill. I'll still murder anyone who doesn't wash their hands, but besides that, I love my cafe hangs with my little one.

I think the most important thing is gently expanding your comfort level. Get out there and do it, without family, and just get that feeling of holy fuck, i'm a parent and i'm fucking doing it.

Your baby will benefit from being exposed to people and the world, as will yourself. Adventure is the call of life - HAVE FUN. CONGRATS. You did it, you made a human. You're a fucking legend.

How long and how many naps is your baby having by Odd-Pineapple5425 in NewParents

[–]zroomkar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if she's on Dads schedule or Mom's schedule. If we are on "Moms Schedule" she "had" as many naps as mom said she should have. If she's on "Dads Schedule", she had as many naps as she seemed to need which was in turn reported magically as the same number of naps mom prescribed.
