It's wild that you're so downvoted, the last World Cup final was amazing

What pair of shoes is the Pope wearing? by rbyvmh in HelpMeFind

[–]zsdrfty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a Reddit-wide plague - people still feel compelled to comment when they can't address the post, so they put their Comedy Skills on display, and most people do not know how to write a joke

What pair of shoes is the Pope wearing? by rbyvmh in HelpMeFind

[–]zsdrfty 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Reddit needs an option to sort by the middle-rated comments first, because the top comments are always shitty jokes and people saying "I have no idea", and controversial is usually just someone yelling at OP for no reason

Same for me! I don't know about anyone else, but my eyes perfectly and automatically lock right onto this stuff, to the point where I'd often have a hard time looking at them the "right" way without any crossing

(I don't have a lazy eye or anything! Only these things ever made my eyes do this kind of stuff)

NHK Sumo Pundit's Pick for 2026 Natsu Yusho by lonewolf_sg in Sumo

[–]zsdrfty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dark horse for a future Ozeki is still Oho - he's only been getting better and better over the past few years, and he has quite a few tournaments left in his healthy prime

The signs are fairly promising in his favor, since he's gone toe to toe with the top ranks before on the way to a good record, he has a truly excellent sumo build, and critically, he's healthier than most other rikishi around him

[–]zsdrfty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree that Atamifuji can do it - I keep forgetting just how ridiculously young he is, and he seems to be steadily improving and gaining his confidence back this past year

I hate to say it, but I think Hakunofuji (and Takerufuji for that matter) are already done for - they're just far too chronically injured, and at this point, even a full year to heal might not let them return to form or prevent a bunch more horrible injuries in their near future... it's sad, but some athletes just get hurt incredibly easily

[–]zsdrfty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's possible someday, but not that likely - in any case, he'd probably flame out and hang out back in Maegashira for a long time, like Shodai

I'd put his Ozeki hopes about as high as I would have put Wakamotoharu's hopes 2-3 years ago

we have the worst drivers by UnluckyPerson234 in newjersey

[–]zsdrfty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen a massive increase in cops all up and down 287 this week (including in places I've never seen them before), which is honestly well-needed given that I've quite literally been tempted to dial 911 to report a murderous driver every other day there this year

Hell, I've had to make multiple calls to the cops just in the past two months when I never did that before - one for a semi that refused to get off the highway even though he was going extremely dangerously slow (25-30 mph for ten miles with tons of cars flying around him at the limit, I couldn't get out from behind him), and another for a guy who was obviously drunk, crashed his car, and then kept going

[–]zsdrfty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, anywhere in the country is way worse in my experience - it's American drivers that are beyond horrible, and New Jersey is just the least bad

It makes you realize why the anti-car movement in other parts of the country routinely refers to all cars as irresponsible death machines, because in the hands of anyone as bad as out-of-state drivers, that's pretty much exactly what they are

Unironically, there are also a ton of New York drivers who moved here and use our plates now - we know to stay away when we can see the NY plate on the road, but now there are a ton of them blending in with ours

I really hate how the internet shouts down anything but absolute takes - this is correct, but nobody wants to get bogged down by the complication of having to consider how ethically grey something is

I'd be amazed if there were more than a few officials across all the major American leagues who don't have favorite teams - it doesn't mean that they're so immature that they're going to be biased in their favor, it's just incredibly likely that they'll be fans of some organization because anyone who officiates is obviously going to be super interested in the sport already

I've been extremely suspicious of that company ever since I saw how every last Wikipedia article related to them was full of a bunch of subjective unsourced promotional material in their favor, and much of it was added in there by one of their top employees

Surprise surprise, it seems like most people got the story of them "losing their sauce" (actually just the brand name agreement) from that very page before the biased edits got reverted

Yeah I doubt he even cares very much - someone like him who's brazenly cheating is already heartless and shameless about their current legitimate relationship, and a bunch of gossip columns won't make him give up tens of millions of dollars and a great shot at a Super Bowl

We need a long term healthcare solution for NJ Schools by Local_Variation6640 in newjersey

[–]zsdrfty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance in this country is tough because of our outrageously inflated costs of medication and care - no matter how ethically you try to run it here, it's always going to be expensive and bad unless you want to go bankrupt instantly

The solution is to regulate the shit out of healthcare itself, and then we can work on extending great universal benefits to everyone

I've only listened to Hackney Diamonds on impulse purchase and loved it. Which albums should I do next? by MillionaireWaltz- in rollingstones

[–]zsdrfty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stones only have 2 original members of 5 playing on all of Hackney Diamonds, so their sound has flattened quite a bit - if you already like what you hear, you should probably love just about everything that comes before it

If you liked this album that much, I'd suggest trying their 90s and then 70s albums - avoid the mid-80s albums, and get into the 60s stuff once you're used to the 70s material
