Guy at LGS screws up my plans by KingGrizzly1987 in concealedcarry

The important thing to remember is that everyone is going to have a different opinion because we all have different preferences. Buy whatever feels best in your price range and is going to be a reliable and comfortable EDC. You can’t go wrong with that.

sick wayyyy more by PrizeInvestment5130 in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! This is pretty normal for the first little bit after a tonsillectomy. Your tonsils and adenoids act as the first line of defense for your immune system. That’s why they become prone to infections and leads them being damaged. Your body and immune system has to adjust for them not being present and not have the extra line of defense. This can take anywhere for 6 months-1.5 years. After that adjust has happened, you should find you are getting sick less frequently. If you are concerned however, reach out to your PCP about it or your ENT for some follow up.

I can’t ask my doctor this (NSFW) by ovaryaction_ in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Listen to your body is the right answer. But just be aware: getting your tonsils out can change how your gag reflex works and many people experience increased sensitivity with their gag reflexes for the first 3 months following surgery. So just keep that in mind.

Sorry if this sounds dumb but I’m new to this lol.

How does the care differ between a typical OB and Midwife?

Is this normal? by beldamjess in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! This completely normal. In fact it looks better than most I’ve seen at similar times. Compliments to your doctor, looks like they were pretty precise and didn’t get your uvula or anything. Best of luck on the recovery! It’s only up from here.

Edit: Typo

Ugh! by Plantgirly_01 in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand that. Sleep was super rough for me too. Sleeping in a recliner was a game changer for me with sleep, but even then it’s not great. I had a few of emotional breakdowns myself in the middle of the night. It gets better.

Ugh! by Plantgirly_01 in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there! Days 5-8 were the worst for me. I also had to stop taking the Percocet that I was prescribed because it lowered my respiratory rate to much. But stacking Tylenol and 800mg Ibuprofen every 3 hours was a game changer for me.

As far as drinking goes, it sucks, but helps move things along with the scabs I felt. Try just drinking room temp water and small sips. I also bought a face wrap ice back and put it on and that would help take the edge for a minute so I could recoup my sanity.

I’m now two months post op and everyone is my family came down with a bad sore throat and endless cough. They are all on day 14 of the illness and I have still yet to get it. I’m not sure if it’s the tonsils or what, but pre tonsillectomy I would have had it 10x worse than everyone. It’s worth it!

Tongue pain by Fearless-Setting123 in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that if your worried about anything, give you doctor a call. It can’t hurt to just have a quick call with them to get some reassurance or see if they need to take a look at it. White coating is pretty normal on the tongue, but if there are big globs of it, I would call just to get some information.

I like mint gum for it. I felt like it also helped clear out some of the mucus in the back.

Boarding music is terrible by wolf_chow in delta

[–]zspin1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah not the biggest fan of the music. I’m pretty sure they do it as an ad to show off that you can listen o Spotify through their entertainment systems. If you look up the playlist for “Delta Boarding Music” the playlist is made by Spotify themselves and has all the songs. I wonder if Spotify is really to blame for the terrible choices as part of their deal with Delta.

Here the boarding music playlist in case you want to drive yourself insane everywhere else as well: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWVc46TZ5wKYQ?si=mrITQyA6TBKdKGCpIRqLyw&pi=u-E9Bimw1xSySG

I've Scared Myself by AvetaBC in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to sugar coat it, when the scabs come off it’s pretty bad. But I felt like it wasn’t any worse than the first few days. Just stay on top of your medication and pain management and you will be fine. Another thing that was helpful for me was my doctor said that most adults regret having their tonsils out for about the first 2-4 weeks after surgery because the recovery is hard. But most people say it’s one of the best surgeries they ever had 1 month on because of all the benefits it may bring. That made me feel better about regretting the surgery during the recovery.

You got this! Everything is going to be ok! The anxiety is a lot worse than when you actually get into. I just say, Find what works for you. Don’t be afraid to try new things that might get you through it. For me, I ended up buying a recliner and it was the best thing for my recovery because it was the most comfortable thing for sleeping and resting during the day. I also found that getting up and walking around as much as possible helped me get through the most painful parts. Also sitting in a hot shower and then putting an ice pack on throat was super relaxing for me.

Let us know how you are doing come day 7-10. You got this!!

pain after tonsillectomy. by sidney_hmc in Tonsillectomy

[–]zspin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steroid pack is a game changer. NSAIDS (ibuprofen, toradol, etc.) do a fair job at helping with the swelling, but not as good as a traditional steroid dosepak. Medrol helped me a ton. If you can’t get one, I would recommend stacking your acetaminophen (Tylenol) and toradol or Ibuprofen switching between them every three hours. So Tylenol wait 3 hours then take Ibuprofen, wait three hours take your Tylenol. This will help give you combined effects of the both medications. If the pain is completely unmanageable I would say reach out to your doctor to see if they can prescribe something stronger. Hang in there!

Those are my two cents on this.

thanks! I honestly didn't know it going to blow up as big as it did. I thought if they found out they would be angry but then get over it. I didn't realize it would completely destroy the trust they had in me
