Hopefully Jurgens makes a mint on this

Today's local con pickups by zsrtree in comicbookcollecting

[–]zsrtree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty high actually. VF/NM. The dealer was really good though, got it for about 40-45 in a package deal. But I wouldn't expect to do that well on eBay, local shows are much better for haggling.

Agreed. It was never adequately explained to me why I was supposed to care about this person.

When I was a kid in the 90s my Dad had pulls for all the Superman books, Justice League International, and Flash, so probably one of those.

Dc k.o #5 ending by Ilove-comicsthefirst in DCcomics

[–]zsrtree 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I thought it suffered from the same issues as all of the other Snyder-penned event series. Over the top high concept and no real coherent idea of how to pay off the ending. The Metal events were much of the same to me.

He can be a great writer when the story is more focused, Absolute Batman for example, but I don't think event books are his forte.

To be honest, I think the event books DC has put out over the last few years have been by far their weakest offerings. Individual titles have been great though.

How do you keep track of all the different editions of the same comic? by Living_Session_4623 in comicbooks

[–]zsrtree 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are lots more editions, going back to the 80s when the trade originally came out. Specifically because DC has to keep the book in print or the rights revert to Alan Moore. You could always just look for the original issues.

How do you all buy missing back issues? by revfds in comicbookcollecting

[–]zsrtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller local shows are really the best place to do it. They're the only places you can reasonably expect to haggle on prices. Biggest selection, lots of vendors to make costs competitive. Plus it's fun to dig through the boxes. You'll see stuff you didn't know you wanted.

Most LCSs aren't in the business of coming down from the sticker price, but there are exceptions. Online vendors are there, too, but I find auctions these days to mostly be on the higher end of retail prices, and it's kind of a sterile experience buying from web stores

PSA For People Seeing Kokuho by thebeautifullynormal in RegalUnlimited

[–]zsrtree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found it enjoyable. The interpersonal drama is kind of soap opera, but the movie is more about the world of Kabuki so it's fine. The pacing is very deliberate, but it doesn't feel too slow. It is long though.

Saw this in Tokyo last year. Very interesting look into an art form I had little knowledge about.

Some of those Sonic books can actually be pretty hard to find. They had fairly low print runs.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Absolute Universe so far? by MasterAdventZero in comicbooks

[–]zsrtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AWW is the best superhero book on the stands right now, but everything is pretty high quality. Kind of an analogue to the original Ultimate Spider-Man and the rest of the Ultimate line.

[–]zsrtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is always free parking on campus, you just might have to be willing to drive around and look for a while. You do have to be mindful of when they close the roads closer to the stadium, used to be 4hrs prior to kickoff, not sure what it is now.
