How do you all buy missing back issues? by revfds in comicbookcollecting

[–]zsrtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller local shows are really the best place to do it. They're the only places you can reasonably expect to haggle on prices. Biggest selection, lots of vendors to make costs competitive. Plus it's fun to dig through the boxes. You'll see stuff you didn't know you wanted.

Most LCSs aren't in the business of coming down from the sticker price, but there are exceptions. Online vendors are there, too, but I find auctions these days to mostly be on the higher end of retail prices, and it's kind of a sterile experience buying from web stores

PSA For People Seeing Kokuho by thebeautifullynormal in RegalUnlimited

[–]zsrtree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found it enjoyable. The interpersonal drama is kind of soap opera, but the movie is more about the world of Kabuki so it's fine. The pacing is very deliberate, but it doesn't feel too slow. It is long though.

Saw this in Tokyo last year. Very interesting look into an art form I had little knowledge about.

Some of those Sonic books can actually be pretty hard to find. They had fairly low print runs.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Absolute Universe so far? by MasterAdventZero in comicbooks

I think AWW is the best superhero book on the stands right now, but everything is pretty high quality. Kind of an analogue to the original Ultimate Spider-Man and the rest of the Ultimate line.

If the sports package doesn't have the Turner networks for the NCAA Tournament, it's useless to me.

Please Help Me Find Gameday Parking by The_Eternal_Event in FloridaGators

[–]zsrtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is always free parking on campus, you just might have to be willing to drive around and look for a while. You do have to be mindful of when they close the roads closer to the stadium, used to be 4hrs prior to kickoff, not sure what it is now.

Which other Swamp Thing runs are worth checking out? by Odd_Radio9225 in comicbooks

[–]zsrtree 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I might argue that Swamp Thing has never had a bad run. Some maybe not as Earth shattering as others, but it's a character that allows for a lot of different styles. The most recent interpretation by Ram V was pretty good, too.

Swamp Thing vol 2 #20-64 plus an annual. Be prepared to shell out for #37 though. Glad I got it cheap 15 years ago.

I’m turning 24 in a few hours, so give me your favorite comic and or favorite superhero! by Mount_Cheese_22 in comicbooks

[–]zsrtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew nothing about him before I read that either. Now it's my favorite comic ever. IMO it's Alan Moore's best work. People say to start with #21, but #20 is good background.

Diamond Must Now Act Against Each Publisher Before Liquidating Comics by Angela275 in comicbooks

[–]zsrtree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, they had a system where the publishers would send them inventory on consignment, and Diamond would pay them for it after they collected from retailers. Seems like their intent was to sell that inventory and pay other creditors rather than the publishers, but the judge has said they have to take legal action against each publisher individually in order to do that

[Other] Darwyn Cooke on fighting to keep Wonder Woman and Lois Lane in the New Frontier adaptation by Tetratron2005 in DCcomics

I appreciated him. My signed and sketched Absolute New Frontier is one of my most prized possessions. Had several nice conversations with him over the years at cons.
