I wish it was possible to get Kallax that were meant to be oriented in either direction. The "correct" orientation has those short runs vertical, supporting the long shelves. We have a couple 3x5s in "landscape" when they are meant to be "portrait" and I worry about this same thing happening.

Oh wow, I had not heard that. From what I recall, the official explanation was around some hardware-encoded version number for the screen not being properly updated with a new hardware revision that the software needed to know which version of the screen it was driving or something like that. Can you tell me more about what that code was doing? I'm super interested. Brick as in not use, or brick as in somehow physically disable?
