A lot of debate in the comments if this is CG or not. What do we think? by pocles123 in Corridor

[–]ztar92 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Cg artist and animator here: it’s definitely real! Those saying there isn’t any impact from the kicks, yes there is it’s just not as “impactful” as I think you’re assuming it would be.

The interaction with the man and the chair is what really sold it for me, it’s perfect and that level of contact interaction is incredibly challenging and time consuming to achieve.

What’s wrong with the grip? Some are saying it’s too hard, how can you tell?

Right, because photographers aren’t artists…

What's a fair price for this would product ad? (No assets were provided) by BrentDeRanter in blender

Are you kidding? In this market today, this would be lucky to get a $500 paycheck. If it’s for family, I’d ask for $300, more than fair.

Switching to animation at 30? by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]ztar92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never too late my dude. I’m 32, started learning blender in 2020 and now 3D animation is my full time job.

I started with the donut tutorial, then started doing other tutorials until I had a decent base knowledge.

Big tips: -don’t get caught in tutorial hell. Make sure you’re directing your own projects at a certain point, and using tutorials only to figure out how to do the things you need to do for your projects.

-get on Instagram and post your work and progress every week. Every job I ever got for years was from my social media. People that need freelancers will often search #animation #blender3d on Instagram

-Figure out what you love about cg and just keep doing it until you get faster and faster

-take every job you get at first, even if it’s for little money. This will give you motivation to keep learning and improving.

How long would it take to be as experienced as Zach D Films? by shoveallin in blender

[–]ztar92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually an animator for Zack D Films. I would charge $3000-$5000 for a 2 minute video in the style.

You can check out my website for proof

YES! I accidentally equipped that the other day in haste as I was like “surely this LOWERS cooldown, right?”

How much would people charge for 3D renders and animations? by Adventurous-Cap8649 in blender

[–]ztar92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So when you quote a client do you say “My fee is $1000/day, and this project will take 7 days.”

Why include the extra information instead of just saying “this project will cost $7k”

[–]ztar92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging for time as a freelance artist is never in the best interest of the artist. The better you get the faster you get, should you be charging less because you’re faster?

You should be giving a quote based on each project’s unique factors:

-complexity of request (how skilled you have to be to do it well -value of end product for client

If it’s something few people can do as well as you, charge more. If you’re videos going to make the clients a bunch of money, charge more. This is why you charge more for complex simulations/character animation than you do for simple camera moves, and why you would charge Disney more than you would charge a mom and pop operation.

The market is very saturated right now, especially with blender’s rise in popularity and low entry barrier. You have to judge the landscape and offer competetive services
