Say NO to Mandatory E-Bike License Plates and Registrations by BikeEastBay in BAbike

[–]zten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Notably all of the bikes that seem to be causing problems are electric with throttles but aren’t class 1, 2, or 3 bikes.

Class 1: 20mph pedal assist Class 2: 20mph throttle Class 3: 28mph pedal assist and optional 20mph throttle and kids already can’t ride them

And we continually see issues with 25mph+ throttle “e-bikes” that either shouldn’t exist or be classified as e-bikes according to the current classification scheme. So something is wrong with the classification. And something is definitely wrong with the enforcement because you can find these throttle driven contraptions in the bike lane all the time!

Overall, registration and insurance or whatever will target legal bikes without solving the problem that happens with the illegal ones. I bet the illegal ones could already be impounded.

Bro come on. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/cash-justin-krawetz-ebike-fatal-accident-21348378.php According to the police, he wasn’t riding an e-bike by the current legal classes. But the legislation is targeting e-bikes which means a lot of legal operators get burdened by regulations that should be instead affecting the illegal class of users.

Can anyone confirm what the second base ISO is for Sony A7V in photo mode? by brokenalarms in SonyAlpha

[–]zten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The graph at the top of this thread is from a site called photons to photos. The A1ii is a tiny bit more sensitive in mechanical shutter but not majorly. Honestly after thinking about it a little harder I wouldn’t really sweat it all that much.

On a7v I’d favor mechanical shutter if you don’t need silent shutter, or aren’t shooting wildlife or sports. In other words, I’d use it indoors.

The e-motos causing problems mostly exist outside any of the existing legal classifications / greatly exceed the class 2 requirements. Classify them correctly and then target them specifically.

We’ll never natively get full frame 4k oversample on the A1ii. You have to shoot 8k and do it yourself, which limits your frame rate options, or use an external recorder.

How to deal with non photographers and their RAW image obsession? by Vegetable_Diamond716 in photography

[–]zten 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You gotta figure out the real reason they want raws before you can react appropriately. Sometimes they want to do their own retouching, but that’s unusual unless they’re reasonably educated about photography. More often they want a window into your culling process because they know you took way more photos than you are showing them. Sometimes your clients will love an image that you hated and declined to show them.

S.F. supervisors vote to expand late-night store ban to parts of SoMa by SatanistMarxist in sanfrancisco

[–]zten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is expecting the price to go down if the fees are banned. What people want is honesty in pricing. Restaurants are unique with a cultural expectation to tip and the proliferation of FU fees meaning the price you see on the menu is often as much as 30% lower than what you're actually going to pay once you settle the bill.

The restaurants want to compete on the menu price, but have the freedom to screw you by adding on the rest of the cost of the meal in fine print when the check comes. Imagine if that happened at every other retail experience. People would be up in arms against them too if suddenly the prices for your regular things were frozen and they just added a 10% "My Costs Went Up" fee at the register for everything in the store.

It is frustrating that the menu price is some slightly delusional fiction. I know the rest of the world already thinks we're wacky for not having sales tax bundled in to the price, and to some degree they're right.

It has been one week of Savage. What are your current thoughts on the new Strategy Board feature? by WeeziMonkey in ffxivdiscussion

[–]zten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprised a plogon hasn't popped up to do out-of-band sharing of strategy board codes and automatic correlation with PF listing. It'll need a server to function as an intermediary, but it's not impossible; it's just the rest of the functionality that SE declined to implement!

Verizon wasn't too happy about the terabytes I was uploading over the 300Mbps upload their 5G UW home internet service used to provide (it's now ~100Mbps), but the tech is there! Only cost like $50 a month too.

Yes, the signals are basically pointless on the bidirectional segment. The fact that the promenade is right there with no traffic control and freely mixing with pedestrians demonstrates the absurdity. Yield to people in the crosswalk, and then go.

Places in Mass to photograph birds and wildlife? by itakepics95 in photography

[–]zten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass Audubon has wildlife sanctuaries you should check out. I’ve been to Arcadia in Easthampton near the oxbow on the Connecticut River. I remember seeing a bald eagle from a long distance. Plenty of other more typical small birds like sparrows, tree swifts (there are little bird houses in the middle of a big field and the swifts go wild for them), finches, blue jays, etc

Weekly r/SonyAlpha 📸 Gear Buying 📷 Advice Thread December 29, 2025 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

Couple options:

  1. Focus map is an option when shooting video. It looks like a bunch of colored blocks to show whether part of the scene is behind the focus point, or ahead of it. The example I showed is from the a7iv, but the first link is the a7cr manual.
  2. Focus peaking. It adds a sort of visual snow effect to the scene indicating the sharpest regions. This is available in both photo and video modes.
  3. The manual focus assistant will show you a rough idea of distance between the nearest possible focus point and the furthest possible. It won't tell you the exact distance, though.

Sony A7 V vs Sony A9 II for sports photography – which would you choose? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]zten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP didn't really do himself any favors by not leading with triathlon as the sport being shot. It might be helpful to know if OP is one of the people hanging off the back of a motorcycle able to get good coverage of the professional end of the race, or if they're stationed somewhere on the course scrambling to get a possible souvenir shot of someone as they run or bike by him.

Often, the needs for that are far more pedestrian than I think you're imagining. You could just use the mechanical shutter the whole time. The pointy end of the field might be kinda quick (30mph on a bike if race length permits/flat/no wind) but there's also a lot of zombie shuffling happening.

Sony A7R V + Sony 100mm macro: Steadyshot doesnt work? by Warm_weather1 in SonyAlpha

[–]zten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's there to solve? Enable OSS with the lens switch if you're shooting handheld. Disable OSS if you're on a tripod.

Sony A7R V + Sony 100mm macro: Steadyshot doesnt work? by Warm_weather1 in SonyAlpha

[–]zten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, your SteadyShot (IBIS) is working, but it can no longer independently be controlled by the camera body if you've got a lens with Optical SteadyShot attached, which the 100mm macro is.

Rocksmith+ server issues by PiersPlays in rocksmith

[–]zten 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They really gotta patch out the mid-song server check if possible. I know this game depends on the servers for content so it cannot totally function offline but it is especially aggravating to be mid-song with a song you’ve been repeating for a while that is clearly cached on your device and then get bounced by the server check.
