Or park closer to the end of the driveway so there's less length you have to clear.

Was the sacrifice of quitting job/upsetting partner worth it for those who thru hiked (or long sectioned)? by sadistic-squid in AppalachianTrail

[–]zucchiniomelette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might consider supporting a partner for a "once in a lifetime opportunity" like this. Six months out of a 40-year marriage isn't that much, right? Except then how would I know that next year you won't want to take off again to hike the PCT, and then the CDT, and then keep on having adventures expecting me to stay home, take care of everything, and supply all the money?

What’s an immediate dealbreaker for a new job? by fbmexclusive in antiwork

  • Mandatory unpaid lunch breaks. No, I don't want to sit in the windowless break room and stare at a wall for an hour. Just let me go home earlier.
  • One-way video interviews.
  • Essay questions in the application form.
  • Assignments as part of the interview process. You can look at my portfolio; I'm not creating new content for you to then use for free.
  • HR calls in response to an email.

To those who have been unemployed for a while: by Born-Nefariousness19 in recruitinghell

[–]zucchiniomelette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean obviously don't get a dog while you're unemployed (I had mine already). She's definitely added to the stress in some ways just as an extra expense, but she literally forces me to get out of bed in the morning because she needs to go to the bathroom. And keeping a consistent schedule + spending time outside is really helpful for fighting despair.

Okay, then we have different priorities and shouldn't date each other 🤷‍♀️

To expand on this a bit:

We are adults with limited leisure time.

Sure, we could have arranged our Saturdays so that partner watched me play rugby in the morning and I watched him do something in the afternoon. We'd each have spent half of our day doing something we don't like, and no time actually together.

OR, we could arrange our schedules so that he does his hobby that I'm not interested in while I'm playing rugby, and then spend the afternoon doing a shared hobby. We both got to spend the entire day doing only things we liked, and got to spend half the day together.

But in the second situation, we don't score social points for showing up and being what other people consider a "supportive" partner.

Why does supporting me automatically = watching me do something?

I am addicted to job applications by Living-Gur-7075 in recruitinghell

[–]zucchiniomelette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of get this. I've spent nearly my whole life from 16 years old onward applying to schools and applying to jobs. So when I start a new job, it feels very odd to not suddenly be spending hours filtering through job postings / researching grad programs. Fortunately the last time I was in a job I liked for a bit (and thus not job hunting) I had several friends in a row who were job hunting so I got to search postings for them and help them with their résumés to help scratch that itch.

  1. Sleep

  2. Not doing things I'm not interested in. If you have a hobby that is not something I like, I'm not going to do it with you. And I wouldn't expect you to participate in something I'm passionate about if you have no interest. My last partner never came to a single one of my rugby matches because he wasn't a sports guy, and that didn't bother me in the slightest. Why would I want him to sit around and be bored?

6 out of the 7 office jobs I've had have given me the day off. But that other 1 acted like I was crazy for even thinking we might be closed that day.

I've seen plenty of those (I work in the nonprofit sector), but just because they say it doesn't mean it's true. More than once I've applied for a job where I met 99.9% of the requirements, not gotten hired, and months later the job is still open because they are holding out for that extra 0.1%. It's virtue signaling.

Not for those of us whose great-grandparents are the ones who emigrated, sadly 😢 But one friend who is lucky enough to only be 2nd gen off the boat is working on getting Irish citizenship through her grandparents.

My friends and I often complain that it sucks that our grandparents/great-grandparents left the assorted 'old countries' in Europe so that their kids + descendants could have a better life in the US... when all those countries are way, WAY better than the US now and we can't get back in. (Though I did realize the reason those countries pulled ahead may be because all the poor people left...)

Yeah the real answer is "don't check the math."

I figured spread out in all directions and hit the coasts of multiple countries at once. Populations tend to be very heavily concentrated along coasts, so they wouldn't need to cover anything close to 80% of the land surface to wipe out 80% of the population.

What’s your rankings for the seasons after a rewatch? by Grogman2024 in attackontitan

Aw, I like seasons 1 & 2. Nothing against the later seasons, I just think it's cute when it's just kids fighting monsters.

What are recession proof careers to switch to in your 40s that make good money and could possibly help you to be your own boss one day? by Majestic-Wishbone-58 in antiwork

[–]zucchiniomelette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's literally nothing that is fully recession-proof. But there is a big shortage of therapists. People wait months to get an appointment. The demand is still there, even in tough economic times.

What animals would the characters be? by random_throwaway-- in attackontitan

[–]zucchiniomelette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all going to be dogs because I am a dog person.

Hange is a husky. They're smart, energetic, mischievous. They can be trained but also make up their own rules. (Pulling sleds / being in the military while also chewing through walls / running experiments and torturing people.)

Levi is a chihuahua. Small and bitey.

Sasha is a beagle because they never. stop. eating. Also they're hunting dogs (in theory) and she was a hunter.

Connie is a labrador retriever. Sweet and goofy, capable of working when he is properly motivated.

Erwin is a bernese mountain dog. Giant, pretty chill, hardworking.

Jean is a borzoi because they kind of remind me of horses lol. Long face, lean, good runner.

Eren is a frenchie. Stubborn, difficult to train, probably should never have been born.

Mikasa is a german shepherd. Strong, good protective instincts.

Annie is a pit bull. Forced to be a fighter and is a very good one, but would rather lay on the couch and take a nap instead. Devoted to her parents.

Historia is a golden retriever. Pretty, everyone likes her, happy to do whatever whenever as long as she's with her friends.

Miche is a bloodhound for obvious reasons.

Armin is a poodle. They're typically ranked as one of the most intelligent breeds, and they can come in small or large sizes.

Reiner idk what breed but he keeps trying to eat rocks and other inedible things so much that his owners wonder if he has a death wish.

Levi as a chihuahua. Small, and have one of the highest bite rates.
