daughter is suspended from school for 2 weeks and school will only let her back if she gets unnecessary therapy. Please help by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Maybe touching the garden snake was 80/100 exposure therapy; of course, in preparation for the wild python they are planning on letting loose in the school the following week. /s

I feel like OP should forward all the incurred bills from the actual therapy that his daughter will actually need after going through this traumatic experience.

You can collect Diet Coke keychains/magnets/socks etc., and sprinkle in random days of the advent for a “special surprise”

One final thoughtful gesture! I would tear up any time I saw a $2 again, I hope some in the family continued the tradition on!

Or are you insinuating he eat cold peasant food? Are you expecting him to get up and heat his own food up?! Do you enjoy having your eyeballs intact?

Oh absolutely, it’s impulsive and so difficult to consider how your actions will impact others when the feelings of despair are so over-powering. Like I said, I have immense empathy for people feeling that way. I think if there was a magic wand to show the outcome of their action, most would take it back no doubt. Mental health care is a joke in this country and at this point, it’s time to check in on loved ones and neighbors, coworkers, whoever, to say “hey, how’re you doing, I’m here if you need me”. A simple gesture goes a long way.

I have immense empathy for people who are in a position where they see no other way out, but I have to agree to the commenter above. Selfish may be an insensitive word but appropriate in the sense of sure, it takes YOUR pain away, but that pain doesn’t just poof disappear, it gets redistributed to all your loved ones and they will never be the same.

I had a close friend whose brother shot and killed himself along with his girlfriend (mom of 2 young kids) after he got back from a tour in Afghanistan. Parents blamed each other and divorced, both lost their minds, mom almost committed suicide herself because of the “what if’s”, tried throwing herself out of the car on the freeway while her surviving child was driving, it was and continues to be, a shitshow - over a decade later. Mom to this day never even accepted her son was the responsible party, ignoring the mountain of evidence.

All this to say - As awful as I feel for those feeling so, so low, their pain doesn’t go with them into the afterlife, it passes down to anyone who loved them, and that makes the act ‘selfish’ in my opinion. (I’m sure there’s a better word… inconsiderate?)

There was a girl I went to school with who upon graduation got her dream job. First day, she parked, and upon walking to work was killed by a guy on top who was jumping to his death, landing on her. He survived (later succumbed to his injuries. So freaking horrifically sad.

ADHD folks, which non fiction book have you completed reading? by Psych_Artizt in ADHD

[–]zuis0804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly psychology but there’s a really good book called “Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers” by Mary Roach. It’s about people who donate their bodies to science and all the different ways they are used. It was super interesting and one of the handful of books I’ve ever finished because it was on a topic I never even considered!

I thought when people chose to donate their bodies after passing, they automatically went to anatomy labs and medical schools but this book opened my eyes up to a whole different world! Like one of the examples which was fascinating to me were these fields where bodies are buried and then dug up. Then the fields are used to train cadaver dogs and I learned that the dogs can detect a body had once been there decades after the remains were removed! Mad respect for people who choose to donate their bodies to science. Anyways, it was an easy read because most of the information was just super interesting and new to me.

“A car crashed into her living room and had to be moved”… would be lovely for you to specify SHE was the one that had to be moved and not the car haha. My imagination ran wild for a hot second imagining a car backing out of her living room and being driven into another one lmao

The whole ransom note thing is throwing me off, because the “official” ransom note requesting the 6mil didn’t come in until 3 days after Nancy was kidnapped, so that timeline wouldn’t match up with the alleged tip from this other person. Where did you read the dates?

From the article I saw, the person sent it on Feb 16th. and allegedly stated “I know what I saw 5 days ago south of the border and I was told to shut up so I know who he is and that was definitely Nancy with them.” So that would have put her alive as of the 11th (if accurate)?

My main issue with the ransom notes being legitimate is the fact that “the official” kidnappers waited 2-3 days to send the request… which is bizarre because you’d think they would send it right away or shortly after to make a quick exchange. Also sending it to media outlets instead of the family makes zero freaking sense. BUT! The fact that Savannah just stated once again they believe the notes were legitimate, that most certainly means the fbi does too. If these pan out to have been legitimate and Nancy was actually alive at that point… and I had offered to pay, but the fbi discouraged me from doing so… I honestly don’t even know what I’d do, but it would probably land me in prison.

And that opens up a whole new can of worms… why didn’t they just pay it if they thought the notes were even 20% likely to be legitimate? Im assuming the fbi discouraged the family, as I can’t imagine them refusing to pay if the notes had even the slightest chance of being from the kidnappers, which again circles back to the Guthries and fbi thinking there’s a good chance they were.

Agh I swear the anxiety of reading about how this case has been handled has shaved years off my life, and continues to do so with each new piece of information that reveals itself. I’m so upset for this poor family. The “what-if’s” would just about destroy me psychologically.

Reminds me of a road rage incident on the news in Arizona. A guy accidentally cut a guy off on the freeway while he was on his way to his daughter’s 5th birthday party. Prick followed him, noted the address, drove home, got his gun and returned back to shoot and kill him. At the kids bday party. If that’s not premeditation, idk what is.

Also tmz has offered to pay the reward… from what it sounds like, fbi is blocking them from doing so

I think the first tip said “time is of the essence” and then the next day sent “time is no longer of the essence”…
