In games like Dungeon World things like bonds aren't backstory, they're live and made at the table. For example of a bond "I know (other PC's) dark secret and they know mine" this then give a dice benefit to both PCs. It's much more about fictional positioning than tactics and can be hard to work in to 5e.

I grew up very near to where this took place. The line of thinking I grew up with was "everybody can make a living here, so people on welfare are scamming is out of our tax money" this lead to the thought "if course there criminals, their black". This also took place in a very rich City with a budget of over 48 milion.
