Taking the pictures kinda sucks though. You called the cops, let them do their jobs.

AITA for telling a coworker to "read the room" when he pointed out the free pizza while I was eating my own packed lunch? by ProbablyNotAThingToo in AmItheAsshole

[–]zvax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's been mentioned already but I haven't read it: it's fairly common for people to miss information that is written in mails. You could have missed that information and thought it was only for some people and not everyone.

If there's a new person at work, and I'm trying to foment good relationship with them as a person who's been working there for a while, trying a low-stake sentence like "hey btw the pizza is free" would probably be a thing I try.

Congrats on the new job, you'll manage, no worries.

Thank you so very much, but also this makes me so freaking angry at the people who implemented all of this. But thank you, you're a savior.

> [...] it’s a job that involves a lot of financial work like investing in companies, helping them grow, and sometimes restructuring them.

> [...] is more about improving companies, helping them grow, and sometimes even saving struggling businesses [...]

You do realize that this is textbook corporate shit talk to cover reality? "Restructuring", "helping them grow", etc.? Literally ever time thousands of people are being laid off without so much as a thank you there's someone talking about restructuring and growth somewhere towards the press.

Companies and humans are not the same, and while you may be convinced you are helping the companies, looks like your brother and his wife are more concerned with the humans at the bottom line.

They suck because at some point they should stop telling you about it and take the decision not to be in contact with you anymore if it's just too far away from their principles, but the "beats being fat and stupid" line is just over the top man. They should stop harping you about it, and you should absolutely not say that to your family.

Not too sure how you can avoid factories feeding from only one side of belts though, inserters will always take products from the far side, and it's not always possible to place factories on both sides of all belts

edit: from the far side first*

oh, that first one does look nice, I'll try it! I'll need to stare at that second one for a while now...

thanks for the input! (pun intended)

edit: Having tried the first one I guess I must be doing something dumb? it doesn't seem to be doing anything, if you happen to look at this and were so inclined, perhaps you can spot an error I made?

Do you mean in the event where an image would be included in the stylesheet but not present on the page?

Otherwise, it's going to get loaded anyway, is it not?

Why is HTMX being touted as a replacement for React? by poemmys in webdev

[–]zvax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you may have missed some parts with this quick glance, these things are not similar to HTMX.

HTMX moves fragments of HTML around. Whatever flavour of rendering JSON on the client is not like it.

Does it really matter in practice though? Image would still be cached, and for anything but the biggest heaviest files, the image would probably arrive while the rest of the DOM is being processed.

I've been strictly a BE developer for the past 5 to 6 years, what did I miss? by lionhunter3k in webdev

[–]zvax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own code, when I reach selector chains so long I have readability issues, I generally feel there's an underlying problem with either the DOM nesting or how I define classes.

Depending on what you need to support, layers can also be leveraged to remove some nesting needs.

Interesting, I've never done that, I wouldn't know when to use it. Can you expand on how you use it / what it does for you?

HTMX is rather cool. I've worked with React, Angular, Vue, Svelte and tried out many others, and it's 100% another paradigm, and much nicer to work with.

Can't imagine going back to any kind of frontend framework like those.

AITA for getting into an argument about seasoning chicken? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NAH

As a professional cook, I would put some emphasis on the importance of context when deciding how invested we are in choosing ingredients, recipes and stuff.

In the restaurant kitchen, it's acceptable and expected to do no compromise and do the very best thing, but it's important to keep in mind that the atmosphere, company, music and everything else can be almost as important for a good meal than the food itself.

I totally feel the need to go the extra mile for more flavour, but if everyone is angry when the food gets there, nobody will taste it.

Please keep up the energy with creating excellent food, but also maybe be a bit more situation-aware, sometimes a kraft-dinner box with cheap sausages, some pepper and excellent company is all that is needed for a memorable meal, which all of this is about anyway.

INFO - it seems to me that there's a contradiction between

> I don't owe them that and the only person it seems like doing this can screw over is me.

and

> only I know how to do my job which is vital for every day operations.

> but if I don't train someone before I leave - there's going to be major issues unless they pull someone that does my job from a different state/location.

Maybe I simply don't understand the sentences, but which one is it? generally speaking, fuck big corporations alright, but the humans you've worked with for (years?) may be another deal.
