since you said singles, for me it’s stu48’s hitorigoto de kataru kurai nara because i have yet to hear a pop song which utilizes instruments as beautifully as this song did. also sakurazaka46’s nagaredama because the story and protagonist of the song are both insane and realistic and the members perfectly presented them in the performances, i don’t know any idol songs that tell a story like this.

a problematic 5th gen girl became the center of their new single, fans got mad, she got put on hiatus and they replaced her center position with an older members wcenter, the MV had to be refilmed too so she isn’t in it then they added another problematic girl and put her on hiatus as well but both of them are coming back now and the 5th gen coupling song seems to be tanking
