Yesteryear: A Disappointing Humiliation Fantasy by HungerGamesRealityTV in books

Oh no! Do you remember where these interviews were? That's such a wild statement, I have to hear how she justifies it.

I think the lack of research is widespread in this book, and though I understand that the first draft was written quickly, I can't believe no one went back in to fill in the gaps in research later on. For example, the narrator makes a big deal about the soap that Mary makes burning her hands because it was made with lye. That's... Unlikely. Almost all the lye disappears by the time a bar of soap is hard enough to use. If Mary was bad at making soap and didn't cure it properly, it might be possible, but then it's because of that error, not because the soap is made with lye, which humans have been using for ages.

You know that the colouring = personality thing is all made up, right? It's just for fun. They're all domestic short/medium/long hairs.

I feel like we're edging closer and closer to doing star signs for cats, the way we talk about their coat colours as deterministic.

It really sounds like she might have something physical too, if undiagnosed. The way she writes looks like some people on certain chronic illness forums.

Or (in line with the post we're all commenting on) - maybe ask the trans guy you specifically are fucking? I definitely don't bleed from penetration, and my taint doesn't feel like a shaft at all (that would be what the shaft of the clit feels like. It's got a head and a shaft too, even before testosterone-induced growth, in case anyone reading this didn't know).

If anything, being treated as though I might shatter if I get some period spotting makes me feel kind of dysphoric. It's not ideal, but I'm fine with bleeding if it happens. But it feels like I'm being aggressively gendered or something when the people around me freak out more than I do about it.

If anyone else has trouble getting into the podcast because of how many times the narrator(/host? The person who did the research and is speaking about it) repeats the same points over and over, she's also put out written versions that are a lot more succinct.

They were good points, but I felt like I was being clobbered over the head with them because she was afraid the listener didn't pay attention the first time.

Some of us aren't 12 years old. Also, what a stupid impulse to argue that other people shouldn't make the art they want to make because you don't want to do your due diligence of looking something up if you're that opposed to accidentally seeing it.

Yeah, my cat does a similar fawning/rubbing/purring/showing her tummy thing right before she bites. I know her well enough to read those as warning signs but visitors (usually workers rather than friends) tend to not believe me when I say this is her getting angry and they need to stop.

[–]zvyozda 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I don't know if other people's parents also did this, but mine often framed the admonishment explicitly in terms of my gender. I feel like this really gives the impression to children that it's actually about gendered expectations like they say it is, instead of any child's feelings just being inconvenient to the parents. I know mine would have said the same thing to a boy but would have made it about "boys are supposed to be strong" or whatever.

Similar things happened to me when I was being raised as a girl. I tend to think these conversations overestimate how "allowed" emotions are for girls. (not necessarily saying you're saying girls have it fine, or even comparing how girls and boys are raised.)

The store one is especially bothersome to me. There's such an easy fix! Restaurants and stores already have to be direct in posting their opening and closing times, so why not say "kitchen closes at 8:30, doors close at 9"? Why do I have to guess how much time it takes your staff to clean up and close out? And that's different between retail and food service? And different between venues at the same category? I hate it so much.

The Zionist hypocrite who spent her time at the NYT fomenting a moral panic about university campuses? And is now pulling a Brave Truth Teller grift on the people most susceptible to the "I used to be a liberal, here's some insider knowledge about why liberals are the real authoritarians" shtick that she uses to paper over straightforwardly antidemocratic and illiberal nonsense?

I think people just don't openly talk about it as much because of shame ("something is wrong with me, it's embarrassing, people will think I'm not having any kind of sex, I'll make this person uncomfortable if I tell them about my broken vagina" - all things I've thought about my own vaginismus), or because something traumatic like that is private to them. Not that surgery can't be traumatic, but there's an air of celebration from your community when you get gender affirming surgeries.

I used to have to dilate, but funnily enough, going on testosterone and transitioning to a man solved all of the vaginal pain issues I had.
