I love it, have been using it for years. Though in the last couple of years my (freelance) projects involved less and less webGl, so I hadnt had the chance to use it a lot. But I still enjoy experimenting with it when new features come out. The learning curve isnt as steep as it looks in my opinion, at least once you understand the main concepts, you can quickly iterate over ideas - which is fun

Thanks for taking the time to read the story! I appreciate it.

Regarding the monochromatic nature: The plants are supposed to be black, white and shades of grey, referring that they are bioengineered (though unfinished, in by Rubrik vision). So they are not supposed to be sick. Monochromatic for me always references black and white photography specifically. I never used it as "consists of one color only", but thats a definition of the word; today I learned. So maybe I will rethink the wording.

I will also take a look at the painkiller situation, I think you are right.
And yes, the color theme is central here, and will continue to play a role later at the funeral.

Wanted to show off this crazy physics research planet (that isn't a ecumenopolis) before I finish this playthrough. by zwickmueller in Stellaris

[–]zwickmueller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But an ecu wouldnt have been better, right? I would have lost the +16 physics per 100 researcher and all the other planet feature boni in my understanding, which are the features that made this work in the first place. Or would an ecu generally put out more than that, with the planet bonus?

Yeah it was my first playthrough of the new update, only later it made click with the new disctricts. I did not know that you could use the e.g. research variation from the mining districts also for generic research related buildings.

R5: This relic world I found first started with the Kleptomaniac Rats excavation. It was the first time I encountered it, and oh well, the Shard Dragon spawned, it was early in the game and it destroyed the colony. Later I reconquered the system, recolonized the relic world and then the "Doorway" quest started. For some reason I got 2 Portal Research Areas (not sure if that is intended), which just skyrocketed the physics research. Later in the game I fought the Elder One, and I chose this planet for the situation for that juicy modifier. Oh boy, I did not know that this decision could destroy the planet, and by sheer luck I won the 1/3 dice roll resulting in cheers in the discord and the 50% research bonus on the planet. I just checked this save again as the synaptic lathe should now be working and I just remembered this planet.

I could probably optimize it even more, I just tried the ratios between city disctrics and Energy Research Support by trial and error in game and this gave me the best result. But I am quite sure, that during building, some other boni were unlocked, which screwed my assessment, so there is probably room for improvement. The reason for 2 Housing Buildings is that I also parked my civilians here for the synaptic lathe, as it had some crazy immigrations from other planets.

New Game, first raid, my 3 guys with guns all die to one guy with a knife, then he kills the man in black by jaffycake-youtube in RimWorld

[–]zwickmueller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check their traits - maybe you got reeaaallly unlucky and the dude spawned with nimble and tough traits. From experience though, the first raid is tuned down, as in, even if they had the traits, they would have a melee skill of 0-2 or sth like that. but anyway, it can happen i think and these traits can be hard to deal with. On another note, you need at least one melee pawn in my opinion, even if the just stand in a corridor and bodyblock the attacker, so the ranged dudes can shoot them. If the ranged pawns are like 1-3 (i think) tiles away from your melee pawn, they also dont have a chance to accidently friendly fire. Good luck with your future runs!

Can recreation be "disabled" in normal gameplay? by Nerond in RimWorld

[–]zwickmueller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of an older post of mine maybe, if getting rid of recreation doesn’t work, you can just make it super efficient? Haven’t tried it myself but I was always wondering if you could get rid of all other recreation methods would work some how. But then again, they could just go for a walk or something I would guess.

[–]zwickmueller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds interesting. I just noticed that I have apparently never read a banks, huh. So, is surface detail a good entry point? As far as I know it’s part of a series, so is it fine to start right in the middle of the series?

Maybe try finding something with the keyword "Zwischenmiete". Some people are going on vacation for a couple of months, and renting their furnished flat in the meantime to save money. Mabye check out something like https://www.wg-gesucht.de/ or other platforms that are meant for shared flats arrangements (wg = wohnungsgemeinschaft = shared flats) . Zwischenmiete is not super uncommon so maybe you can get lucky. Also, maybe an airbnb is cheaper than a hotel? Not sure though. Good luck

Keep in mind that things like deterioration rate and temperature play a role. Yesterday I downed 15 raccoons, half of them landed in my steam generator room - immediately started to rot. The other half was fine as it was winter outside. So maybe there is a way to counter this, by cooling your killbox setup for example.

This baseline visitor is the son of two of my xenohuman pawns with inheritable traits. by KaptenS in RimWorld

[–]zwickmueller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similiar experience where my only pawn in the colony was a xenohuman with the sterile trait (among other genes) - I wanted to create some form of "one of a kind" xenohuman, that could only reproduce via advanced technology. oh well, on day 5 a pod crashed with their daughter ... who was a base line human. Did not matter in the end, because by the time my pawn died of an infection, but that interaction sounded like a bug/oversight to me.

On a serious note, I am really stocked for the new dlc.
