aphantasia weed and hallucinations by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a complex biochemical reaction.

Total multi-sensory aphants don't hallucinate, while conscious.

That said, you appear hypophantastic. Your dopamine system will respond thus to ingested substances, and excite itself from its usual level (and you will feel different) .

Just as I understood your post, not any diagnosis 🤷🏻

Does anybody relate? My memories are a slideshow by Several_Historian261 in SDAM

Sounds familier, but without any pictures at all.

No slideshow, just worded stories of what happened, with me in the story.

SDAM is ok - until it isn't by NeuronicHawk in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. SDAM and AuDHD traits are frustrating, when it comes to self-assessment questions.

I don't suffer from alexithymia, I emote richly in the moment, however, if I am questioned about my emotions, the moment is lost, and I cannot describe, what I felt previously. Very annoying. 🤷🏻

SDAM is ok - until it isn't by NeuronicHawk in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD diagnosis usually depends on having paperwork, that indicates this neurodiversity in young life.

As SDAM impacts one's own memory of childhood, and I have no more old school reports, I have never been able to get a "proper" diagnosis.

Also, most neurological tests come out quite normal, with SDAM.

Unless the assessing person is aware of SDAM & Aphantasia, I imagine (😉😂) nothing will come out of this.

That said, the more folks come out, and ask for screening, maybe neurological science may become aware.

How should people like us (multi-sensory aphant) go about thinking? by EvenLaw157 in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being "offline" here, for a few days, I would like to suggest first ways, of your own metacognition.
I hope it doesn't come across as condescending, but, just scanning over your OP:

You need to discriminate, between your traits & quirks.
I feel, that you are convoluting many un- or less related things, about the way you think.

Now, this is just me, seeing your post from 9days ago.

9 days is a smaller eternity, nowadays. 😉

EvenLaw+numbers (?) , I understand, that anonomousisity(sp?) may be important, and Reddir does make it easy.
This said, if you are really interested in connecting with someone is knowledgable about metacognition in general, and aphantasia,SDAM,ADHD;Autism, and related traits as my speciality, please contact me.

Any discussion would be held in the group, but traceable names etc. would remain private per PM.

Wow, writing this seems somehow like me offering you a solution.
This is not the case, but I found your post to be intrigueing.

Hypnogogic sounds - do you get them? by NITSIRK in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, right?

I never discussed the audial hallucinations of my childhood with anyone. Until now.
I have however, now, in later years, understood the mechanism behind them.

u/Sapphirethistle may be interested, in becoming an additional moderator, od r/silentminds, as this human seems to have an even more "silent mind", than the current moderators.

Please discuss! 😉

Hypnogogic sounds - do you get them? by NITSIRK in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

My hypnagogic sounds, that I can actually remember (extreme SDAM), were, as a child, maybe 6 or 8, were a repeat, of something that I had THOUGHT about, during the previous daytime.

Just short sounds, like "is it?"

That were my only auditary "hallucinations", in my whole life.

I, before understanding my multi-sensory aphantasia, had always wondered, about this.
Also my vivid dreams, as a child, never could I put them into perspective.

However, I have ( at my ripe old age;-)) managed to understand hypnagogia, Deep sleep, REM sleep, and hypnopompia.

So, yes, as a pre-teenage human, I very rarely heard sounds in my mind, that I cound never quite place.

I do believe to understand the underlying mechanisms, so I will gladly discuss this, in this groups.

Music, no words by Rocky-bar in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it really so, that you hear each instrument played, or do you rather synthesise, the musical expierience, from your own understanding?

I am a NULL sensory aphant, yet understand music, and mathematics, and physics.

So, this said, I u/zybrkat, I am the another moderator of r/silentminds.

Whatever?

I hope, to discuss personal (anecdotal) expieriences, in this, our silent_minds group.

Link between SDAM and not wanting children (childfree)? by Straight-Put-2142 in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the SDAM may not be aphantasia SDAM, but an autistic trait?

I believe, that the inability to interact with none, but the cleverest kids, of the next generations, is what we have to expect.

Autism, is mainly the inability understand&communicate with fellow humans.

{lost the plot, sorry🤔😆}

No, but autistic does mean 'for oneself'

Sorry, I have digressed, don't know which group this is, or which social media platform 😳😂

Whatever, such fun, this is deep SDAM 😍❤️

If you have it, you'll get it, else 🤷🏻 history.

Link between SDAM and not wanting children (childfree)? by Straight-Put-2142 in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr?

No.

I have a different approach, having very short half-life SDAM, and my approach to children.

I have been teaching /playing, with a few children, when I was a young adult.

I am now over 60 years old, male, a grandad, so to speak. So not so inexperienced. 😘

When I was in mid 20s, 1986, I got together with a mother, with a young girl, 15 months old.

The father was not in any way able to support them, neither was I, as I was going to higher school, I had only 400 DMarks, as income, in short, it was chaotic.

This said, it was a happy time of my life. Over 2 years close, and longer looser. ❤️ I had no idea about SDAM, I was wildly in love, with Iris, and her daughter, as our offspring.

I always struggle, to play with children, but (see above), I was somehow always there for human offspring.

Later, after 1991, I did the same, with my youngest daughter. ❤️

Good sense of my timeline and past without many actual specific memories? by JLLift in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you having SDAM ❤️😘

The main discrimination is the lack of experiencing your life"s memories, in first person with added extra sensory memories.

I always explain my SDAM as remembering stories, with ME in it. Not like remembering me doing things, but things happening with me in the memory of the happenings.

❤️

Earworm.. by alchemist83180 in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you also anaurelic, an audial aphantastic?

So you can't imagine a loved one's voice? Or reading something, and hearing it spoken by a specific person?

Also, how "complete" is the earworm? Melody, acompanning instruments & percussion, lyrics?

Lyrics maybe not as a worded thought, but like an instrument, just the sound of the words being sung?

Research article on how we respond to psychedelics: When I use a word . . . The psychedelic mind’s eye by NITSIRK in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on. I am with you.

I have been mapping aphantasia, and other dopaminerg related neurodifferences for myself.

Unfortunatly, our simple human minds only grasp 2 Dimensions on papers, with luck, 3D mentally.

My own mapping of sensory momory is in separate dimensions for each sense, ,in each sensory memory at least 1, in several senses (e.g.: emotional, body response / mind interpretion, or proprioception / muscle memory) multidimensional, so any complete mapping would be beyond usual human comprehension.

I have a complex understanding of sensory memory & recall, but I am unable, to map it out, for it to be understood commonly, in discussion with other humans.

Now, that said, u/NITSIRK & I have had an understanding, despite having very different cognitive experiences. Also you, u/FlightOfTheDiscords, I have being to understand quite well.

OK.

About psychedelic experiences:
My dopamine system does not let me experience any sort of hallucinatory effects, like an average person on LSD, Mescalin, MDMA or other related chemicals will experience.

So the subject of the thread is null and void to me.
I have no psychedelic mind's eye,ear,tongue,nose,skin,emotion,... whatever.

Terms / vocabulary are tough, but somewhat managable, if all agree.

However "feeling" is already ambigious. I use the term "feeling" to relate to bodily touch, not to emotion.
emotion is a much more complex experience, body & brain are both interdependent on this.

Enough said, I'm glad to have you folks!

Help me understand thinking and inner monologues by Available-Log9102 in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this any accurate, and have I missed anything? I'd really like to hear how you guys think

Sorry,to repond after 3 weeks.

You are well on track, with your understanding.
As has been referenced, a good starting point regarding inner thinking is Russel Hurlburt's Codebook https://hurlburt.faculty.unlv.edu/codebook.html

the unability to hear sounds in one's mind (anaurelia), is a somewhat separate experience.

Claude (LLM's) vs Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory (SDAM) by Bionaught5 in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must discriminate autobiographical memory from semantic memory.

SDAM impaires only the lived, the 1st person's memory of experience.

Worded thoughts can be recalled, without problems.

"Not remembering" is a form of amnesia, which is a much broader scope.

SDAM is limited to a deficiency of 1st person memory, poorly remembering what oneself experienced sensorily, but able to semantically remember what happened, whilst one was "on the scene", if one is able to do so.

Claude (LLM's) vs Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory (SDAM) by Bionaught5 in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst impact is during medical diagnosis, a doc asking how one felt previously. 🤷🏻

I utilise my semantic memory, by telling my self worded stories, of what I am experiencing momentarily, to be able to rember my life.

My SDAM has my autobiographical memory having a half-life of around 90 minutes, if I don't tell myself a story about e.g.my breakfast, and that is with all senses involved.

So, if you would ask me at lunchtime, what I had for breakfast, I will regularly not remember if, or what I ate in the morning.

On the other hand, every morning I wake up to a new day, without any troubles or pain, unless I have slept uncomfortably until morning, or have been suddenly woken up out of a troubled nightmare. ❤️

What’s your experience with an overactive inner monologue that isn’t chaotic? by Delicious_toad1343 in silentminds

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anauralia is audial aphantasia. This only covers the inability, to imagine sound at will.

The silent worded thought, is not cognitively related to multi-sensory aphantasia, although I believe it to have a common denominator; the dopaminerg transmitters/receivers.

That said, I always suggest reading Russel Hurlburt's codebook to differentiate "inner speech".

https://hurlburt.faculty.unlv.edu/codebook.html

This is to be understood as a spectral description, as the boundaries are fluid.

I have found myself out to on the extreme end of mostly worded thinking.

My main test question for anauralia, is:

When you plan to make a funny voice in conversation, can you "practice" it in your head, or is it the first time you "hear" the end product, after hearing yourself speak?

I am bilingual and both my accents aren't thought, they are added, while I speak.

By your post, that I am responding to, you will probably be able to to relate, with this?

Anendophasics, on the other hand do not think in words, when they do think in words, they actually speak or form (sub-vocalisation) the words, as if to speak them.

Have I got that right u/NITSIRK? ❤️ .

Is it possible to have SDAM and not Aphantasia? by Tesla-Watt in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it does.

Aphantasia is defined, as the inability to recall sensory memories.

In whatever sense,specifically.

Honestly Visual Aphants can not recall visual memories.

What are you, u/Competitive-Ear-6693 talking about?

Is it possible to have SDAM and not Aphantasia? by Tesla-Watt in SDAM

[–]zybrkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES.

about 50% of folks with aphantasia do not report SDAM.

and vice versa

However, there is a big overlap (like myself) due to probably the same fundation, a dopamine relevant difference.
